It's actually inspiring to know that the Master forgets things, too! Only when you forget things, the results are still excellent😮 Great video, and the image of the Milky Way core rising out of the clouds above the river is a real beauty.
Love the 35mm image of Mini Cradle mountain Richard, and also the 20mm image at the end, both great images, I would be very happy with those. It is very nice of you to show the bloopers, we all do it even if people think we are too experience to not have bloopers. I think it is bloopers and failed nights that make us try again. Happy travels 🙂
I love seeing your triumphs as well as your frustrations. It makes me feel more accepting of my struggles to get the nightscapes I want. We are all human, after all, and everything does not go right 100% all the time. If I can hit 50% or more, I think I'm doing good!! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip!
Thanks so much Andrea. I think we need to be easy on ourselves . .this genre of photography is very difficult and we should celebrate our achievements.
If this was easy, everyone would do it! Still some great images salvaged from a frustrating evening - a valuable lesson to persevere no matter what. Great video, Richard.
I liked the images you captured despite the cloudy skies. The clouds always offer moodiness in a time lapse. The image down the road at the Cradle Mountain "lookalike" came up really well. A challenging night but you came away with some gold. 😎👌👍
YAAAASSSS Richard. This trip was hard, it was ruined by a camper and clouds but you know what that is a banger of a shot with this mountains. Glad you got something out of it friend.
Lovely video Richard! It's amazing how you make the best of the situation and still find some humour in it. It was also fun to see all the places I chose to go recently in my Tasmania trip from a new perspective. Looking forward to next one! 👍🏼
You know when you’ve been watching someone for quite sometime, when you said what’s there to do and I yelled out have a cupper and biscuit! 🤣 The images are phenomenal as usual my friend. 👏🏻 What a trip again to Tasmania!
Love the moodiness that the clouds bring to these images. Feel the frustration about the time-lapse, but if you are going to muck up your settings, good that it was on a night that was impacted by campers which you have no control over. Who knew the Tamron 28-200mm could produce a solid astro photo!
Great images Richard, that's y I love your videos, you're always so positive. I think I get hiccups every time I go out, watching you has made me think, well if Richard makes the best of it, I need to try this or that to make the most of it. P. S, I don't really get much time to eat and drink
Fantastic mate, I really enjoyed that. I always say that photography trips are like fishing trips, some days you do great and catch heaps and some days you just get a few tiddlers but it's always enjoyable just being there whatever the outcome.
Hi Richard, another excellent video, the photos were superb, as for frustrations with the timelapses I think they are already part of the settings😀, Thanks Richard, and have a good trip
Great video Richard, when things go wrong for me a lot of swearing happens just ask Geoffery. Did well to not record that part. Still some great images came out, just goes to show that it's an all-night adventure.
Thanks for taking a look Keith. Well I suppose I was there all night anyway so I just had to wait and bide my time til I got a little bit of clear sky.
Looks like everything turned out great in the end for ya Richard. You got another nice time-laps and those photos are all great too! Those are keepers for sure. We don't always need perfectly clear skies, sometimes some clouds like that help mix things up. While shooting though, I sure know how worrisome those clouds are though. Great campsite...... Oh, yeah, I'm afraid as we age, we'll find it more and more important to keep check lists for more and more things. You'll want to get a good jump on it, and make yourself up some nice checklists for all photo styles, laminate them and toss them right in your camera bag. That way you'll have them at all times and can go right down the list as you set up your camera. I mean lets face it, with so many styles you do, and so many combinations, someone right in their prime of 25 yrs old would be hard pressed not to miss stuff too, so.
Beautiful captures, Richard. I need to make myself a checklist to remember all my gear and settings! Something is usually left behind. I now carry two headlamps because I have left one behind too many times.
Interesting vid Richard, Tasmania in mid year can be very cold. Good on you for making the effort and making a video to share, the images allowing for clouds and camper van visitors still came out very well, so worth your efforts to keep the camera and your energy running. Cheers Peter.
Nice images despite lots of things conspiring against you Richard, if all my failures resulted in such good images I’d be very happy 😂 good that you show what you regard as a fail and the reasons why. I liked the cloud movement in the timelapse, a rising Milky Way at the end would have made it really special, such a shame it didn’t materialise and reward all the effort 👍
I’ve done that so many times with my Timelapses! It’s the worst feeling haha. Was out shooting a large Milky Way panorama last week and accidentally deleted one of the photos during my session. Felt like everything was going wrong. Also I always feel like the clouds roll in right where you don’t want them! Got back home and was able to salvage the image tho. The stress was unreal haha sometimes you gotta just let go and laugh it off.
Lovely video! Night photography has extra challenges, lot of luck needed as well. I'm sitting on a few gigabites of material, which I not deem good enough. Happen all of us. But evem so, just beeing out is a good thing.
It makes me all warm and fuzzzy knowing Im not the only one who has nigts like this😂but at least you got something out of it whereas us mere mortals would have said "bugger it Im going home"😂
So much food for thought in this video Richard 👌, and considering the conditions/circumstances you still managed to create some epic images - a reflection of your skill and experience. I'll be reflecting on all of this as I head out tonight to some salt lakes east of Perth with fingers crossed the forecast clear sky window is accurate.
Im sure someone has said Richard but that is the entrance to Lake King William. We go trout fishing in there off an on, at times it's a pretty desolate place with the stumps etc cleared for the lake when the dam was constructed.
Man Oh Man ! It always seems to go right finally even if it goes wrong … ain’t that sky amazing??? I went out last Monday. It was supposed to be a magnificent night but … smog rolled in and hid the already fainted stars slightly showing. Light pollution was also getting on my nerves and I was getting a bit frustrated … anyways! It was just wonderful to be under the "starry" sky as the weather didn’t allow it for quite some time previously! Luv ya!
You could use one of the Recall camera settings for the time lapses that you run using Priority mode. I have done this and have set the interval as a priority over the shutter speed and a set an arbitrary interval which I just adjust according to needs once I select the recall camera setting. This will save you having to worry about the shutter speed becoming longer than the interval you have set, hope this is helpful to you - if it is please send me a rumball 😂
Fantastic adventure again Richard! I really admire the way you kept trying to get something out of the night, although everything seemed to be against you. Was worth it in the end!

The last time I made it out to shoot milkyway I hade a lady in the carparke behind me that couldn't back in to a spot to save her life . After the 20th time of trying to get in to the parking spot I went and offered to help her out she was thankful and I was back to shooting 😂 without the extra abeant light . I was pulling my hair out over the situation
Ha ha, yes we can certainly make some cockups ! I just made a bonza using the intervalometer on my Sony A7R iii, 2sec timer, 20 sec shots x 10 of. Then I shifted to another spot to take a single shot and I tried to use 1/20 !! jeez the brain just wasn't in gear ! was out with the camera club so a lot of chatter and of course we have had some beaut days, but bloody cold clear nights in Kiwi land. Great Video nonetheless. What auxiliary battery power packs are you using ? Cheers
Great video Richard, going to Tassie in September and you've given me a few spots to look for. Question! Did you shoot your time-lapse through the in-camera time-lapse function or through your Zeapon PONS Pan/Tilt unit. I have A Genie Mini2 that I use to use for Astro time lapses and was wondering if I could use it with the in-camera time-lapse mode.
Thanks a lot Charles. Yes I used the in-camera Interval shooting mode. So the sequence is not triggered by the Zeapon. You can do the same with your Genie Mini.
Hello Richard can you tell me where to purchase the 'Spirit Level' ad 'Power Bank' please. Would be great for my MSM rotator. Superb video as per...Many Thanks.
Thanks so much Phil. Unfortunately that's a home made job. Well you can buy the spirit level at any camping store . .it's a caravan level. The block of nylon has a simple 3/8 threaded hole in it to attach to the tripod. I bolted the spirit level to it. I use a few different power banks from Anker and Rosmoss, but pretty much any will do.
Hi Richard, I hope this question is ok to ask? When you are doing panos and they are long exposures for the foreground and different exposures for the sky, how are you blending these especially when for example there are low lowing clouds over hanging the distant mountains?
No problem at all Rob. I blend these exactly the same way I blend all my tracked shots . .I use the Sky Replacement feature in photoshop to create the initial blend mask. From there I manually do some work to make it look right . .You are correct that with the low lying clouds it's more difficult.
so did I get you right, you set the shutter speed gap to 5 sec. (13 s. and 18s.) because you wanna see each time the preview on the display? Or is it to give the camera time to save the picture? Because I would like to set up 13s. and 15s. (same camera) but now I am unsure wether 2s is enough.. Would 2s be enough?
I always leave a gap to make sure it has time to write to the card. Yes 2 seconds is plenty of time. But you'll find standard shutter speeds are 13 and 15 seconds. But remember the interval selected includes the shutter speed.
So many advises for free. You cannot imagine how gratefull i'm. Thank you Richard for everything you offer to us !
I'm really pleased you enjoy the videos Vincent.

What an amazing video Richard, loved that 35mm shot. Can I ask where in Oz you had your Z6 Ha modified? Keep up your amazing work. 👏🏻👏🏻

Cheers
Thanks as always for your great comments Royce. I use a variety of battery pack. Anker and Romoss are 2 I like.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Cheers, have an Anker, thought I would look for a smaller lighter battery pack !
@@nightscapeimages.richard thanks Richard
so did I get you right, you set the shutter speed gap to 5 sec. (13 s. and 18s.) because you wanna see each time the preview on the display? Or is it to give the camera time to save the picture? Because I would like to set up 13s. and 15s. (same camera) but now I am unsure wether 2s is enough.. Would 2s be enough?
I always leave a gap to make sure it has time to write to the card. Yes 2 seconds is plenty of time. But you'll find standard shutter speeds are 13 and 15 seconds. But remember the interval selected includes the shutter speed.
