+Jack Peterson (Reaper 2) Thank you Jack - it's easy to forget to appreciate what you have on your own doorstep sometimes isn't it....stay tuned for part 2 soon! All the best - TMF
Know these places well and you did them justice. Have to say this post has some of your best one-liners too; Skoda, Daewoo, serving operatives . . . . . I chuckled on many occasion. Keep it up!
Good to hear from you again....not sure any of these places quite qualify as a City (in the UK to be a City a town has to have a Cathedral) - not sure how it works in the US though??
While over from the US visiting friends in Bury St. Edmunds a few years back, my wife and I were fortunate enough to take the same loop with our hosts (although by car); your fabulous documentary brought back great memories. All I kept thinking was how great it would have been to do this loop on my R1100S. One of the most beautiful parts of the UK... how I miss England!
Hehe, well next time you visit please go to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales or Peak District....trust me East Anglia is far from the best bit!! In fact if you're talking UK rather than England Scotland and/or Wales are also fabulous (I am allowed to say this as virtually a native East Anglian)....thanks for watching!
The missus and I are planning a trip to the IOM TT in the next few years, so hopefully we can explore Wales for a few days before we get off to Liverpool for the ferry crossing. Would also like to get to Scotland on the swing back for a week or so. Love your TH-cam channel! Great stuff!
TheMissendenFlyer you mentioned in an earlier video that you imagined Norway beeing much like Scotland. I didn't know at the time if you ment it as a question or not?. Well i think there are simmilarities and diffreces .The climate and the lanscap differs lot depending on whether your in the south east, where there are great woods and flatlands, the west where there are fjords, mountains and scottish weather, he he. The north of Norway has a sub- arctic climate. I live in the middle of Norway, close to the city of Trondheim. In the midlle of Norway we have alittle of everything. We don't have the most spectaculere mountains, but what the heck. I guess the southwestern part of Norway is what is the most simmilar to Scotland. It a bliss for motocycledriving, exept for the weather .I appogise for any bad english, i don't practis it every day, and finisht scool more than 35 years ago.Have a nice evening sir :-)
Those roads are part of my regular personal loop. I'm from Ipswich. Some proper little roller coaster sections around Tunstall and Rendlesham forest. Great fun!
Great videos. I bought the Simon weir book after watching some of your rides. Me and the wife done part of this loop a month or so ago. We got up early to get to south wold pier to watch the sunrise. From the book We've also done the Peak District, Cotswolds and more recently the Wrexham route where we also incorporated a ride through long mynd in Shropshire (stunning). Can't recommend this book enough. Look forward to more videos.👍
Thank you Matthew - and yes they are handy books aren't they, they take all the guess work out....must do that Long Mynd run, love it up there. Cheers and thanks for stopping by - TMF
Nice video on some of my local roads, thanks for posting. Some interesting local facts too, although your reference to the river 'Debden' was quite amusing..! (Deben). Looking forward to part 2! :-)
Great ride fella. I can see why the route is in the book. Awesome places you visited on the way and some coolio history you mention for us. I can imagine the food smells you were experiencing, lol. There's nothing like that pub food smell wafting by, lol. The aroma comes second to 2stroke though, lol. Looking forward to part2 mate. Tcrs✊
Another great video! On your recommendation from your previous videos I purchased both of Simon Weir's books 'Bikers Britain 70 Motorcycle Tours' & 'Bikers Britain The Tours with 44 motorcycle tours & both are brilliant. As I only live in Stowmarket I did the Southwold loop only a couple of weeks ago. Last week as you were filming on my 'patch' I was in the Yorkshire Dales doing a last motorcycle tour before the winter sets in & again from Simon Weir's book 'The Tours' tour no 15 the Richmond Loop. Now you have finally motivated me to purchase an helmet camera & start a channel here on TH-cam after watching you on my 'Patch'...lol...
Excellent and informative as ever, your pre-ride research must take as long as the ride itself! Recently did a ride over to Aldeburgh on the Street Triple with my riding school, very nice place, the fish and chips were excellent.......don't remember any nice waitresses though :-(
Damn you. The more videos like this you make the more desperate I am to get my motorcycle licence. Only a few more months of saving to go. Might wait until spring to learn though. Don't fancy learning in the winter. Great work as always man.
Got to be done - I learned in the winter, even had one of the tests cancelled due ice! If you learn in Winter you'll appreciate how good Summer riding is (plus the schools and test centres are much quieter in Winter)....go for it! Best of luck...
TheMissendenFlyer Yeah you're right. I need to let the girlfriend and parents stop trying to convince me I'll die within the first 5 minutes of being sat on a bike. I've showed the girlfriend your vids and she's still not keen haha. Cheers for the reply mate.
My daughter passed her CBT aged 16 years and one day, (she would have done it on her birthday but it was a Bank Holiday that year) in driving rain and howling winds so don't be a wimp about weather.
Nice vid TMF. Reasonably close to us and I concur some nice roads and pubs in that part. The tea room in Orford is nice, and the castle is worth a visit! 6.46; your mind must work like mine... think of the bricks!!!
exactly! Chocolate box house are all very nice, but best on chocolate boxes eh?!! Thanks for watching once again and good to hear from you - it's been a while!
Cheers TMF, I certainly still keep up to date with your uploads - it's nice to see your channel grow and the content develop. Keep up the good work! You've created a good niche as the gentleman biker of youtube! Less commenting on my part is probably down to a hectic work life and chasing a 14 month old around! :-). Just about stopping commuting on the Street Triple for this year (it was 4 deg. C this morning). Getting very tempted by a V-strom or BM 800GS - and perhaps doing an off road course. There's always some temptation lurking with bikes!!
This is getting freaky TMF... I'm often at Southwold! Lovely area, infact, most of the East Anglian coast is. Unbelievably cheap in some areas too, I'm talking full on home-made roasts for £5/6.. if you know you know! Brilliant.
Yes it is quite shocking what a rip-off pub food can be in my neck of the woods - you rarely get a meal for less than £12-£14 in a pub, in Norfolk/Suffolk like you say, half that! ...mind you, have you seen the locals?? ;0)
what a beautiful country you life in... i like the trees and the coast. looks amazing. one day i ll ride my bike from dover to Scotland 😉 by the way what helmets do you have? and which is the best one. great video with the gs 😉 looking forward to seeing part ll cheers Tom
+Thomas Geser Hi Tom - thanks for the kind words, on the GS I wear an Arai Tour X4 - hands down the best helmet I've ever had (I've a Review video on here if you're interested in more details) - all the best - TMF
Bikers' Britain: Great Motorbike Rides (AA) excellent book, very good range of rides from a few miles to hundreds of miles. Make most of it while UK sun is shining .
Orford ness was in the late 50's the location used for what would now be called non destructive testing on the UK's nuclear weapons. I hat the things but the history and engineering is worth reading about. If you go there again check out the Pagodas. Back in 1913 large parts of the Ness were taken over by the war department, drained and turned into airfields for the central flying school. Later it became the home for the experimental flying section.
Thanks Kevin - I find all that stuff fascinating (as you may have guessed) sounds like I need to do more research and have a revisit! Thanks for watching - TMF
I subscribe to the Baron Von Grumble school of thought on horses, they shouldn't be allowed on the road if they can't cope with traffic etc.and they are purely for pleasure, who goes to work on a horse! By the way you omitted to describe what coprolite is 😉. Nice video my friend, living in Norfolk, I might just give it a go next weekend, weather permitting.
...yes well I thought someone might be eating their lunch whilst watching the video, so skipped over what coprolite actually is....I tend to agree on the Horse front, although an attractive rider can sometimes make up for the disruption they cause. Be careful if you're venturing over the border, best not let them know you're from Norfolk and watch out for those Suffolk drivers!....
Hi there, I just wondered if your flying gave you a kind of 'eye in the sky' perspective when you are on the bike? Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
Err, I think so yes - I tend to have an "eye in the sky" perspective wherever I am in South east England as I visualise places as they look from the air....and then am surprised how long it takes me to get to the same places on the bike! (and what they look like from the ground). Having said that I don't know Scotland from the air at all, but would love too. Was at the Edinburgh festival two weeks ago for a few days and hopefully will be back up for another week before long - great fun up there....
Another great vid TMF or should we call you jodhpur man, lol. Interesting to see these places which I know well from our trips out on the bike, Southwold and Aldeburgh in particular, always look slightly different from someone else's perspective! Hey have you tried the new 2017 GS yet? A mate recently went for a test ride, noted improved gear change and selection, less engine noise, even better fueling, said he's considering upgrading from his 2016 GS, doesn't bode well for the rest of us, lol. Seriously if you could get a test ride it would be a great video considering your extensive GS experience! cheers tony
Thanks Tony - I must admit I didn't realise they had made such huge changes to the 2017 model, I also want to try an Adventure....maybe it's time I tapped up my local BMW dealer for a few test rides ;0)
Lol, that's kind of amusing because I currently own a BMW R1200RLC(2015) I'm looking to change it for the 2017 spec GS 1200, just not sure when is the best time yet. It's kind of ironic, you try and buy a great conditioned BMW and you have to pay top money, you try and sell the same and it's time for an unpleasant shock, well usually anyway. cheers tony
Hi TMF.... quick question. Which brand of hand guards have you got. I am looking to get some and just curious as to how you find them... worth it or not over the standard hand guard? thanks in advance.
Wot a horrible car... LOL. I like these trip vlogs over Simon's routes, nice idea. I like all the background information about where you are and the history etc. Funny question for you, on your GS at speed, motorway speed, if you turn your windscreen adjuster knob, is it very tight/sticky, nearly immovable? Mine snapped off in my fingers and flew away while I was trying to adjust the screen at speed. I'm just curious if the mechanism is commonly difficult to adjust with wind pressure on the screen.
Some have said that greasing the mechanism fixes it. Mine is just at first service, so new, but it's been sticky/gritty from the start. If it ever feels like it's stuck, believe that it is LOL.
Another good vid MF. You are around my neck of the woods and only live a few miles from there. Be interesting to see what you think of Southwold. I love it and quite often go for a ride there and stop for some fish and chips, nice place for a stroll with the wife along the prom. You need to do the North Norfolk coast while you are in the area Cromer, Wells, Hunstanton. I have the book and I think its in there, lovely coastal ride.
Well I suppose I could upload them in 60fps - alas my old HD Hero 2's will only record in 30fps though! Maybe it's time for a camera upgrade, I must admit I do watch other you tubers smooooth videos with great envy....
My sister lives in leiston. I very much believe in ufo's having our family witness one very clearly in the late nineties (oval object emitting colours moving at a constant speed which proceeded to accelerate and then disappear at aroung 500 AGL). One of the strangest things I have witnessed.
How do you keep your kit so clean? i have the save RST kit and i wash it often but it never seems to come out clean. this would make a good vlog don't you think?.
Christ...I'd forgotten how flat and boring it actually is there! Still, you had a nice ride by the look of things. Although this one wasn't my cup of tea, very well put together vid thou 👍
Good day John from Winnipeg here. Spending my weekend prepping my GS for winter. Good job on all videos. Check out Wildwood Motorsport - my son is their newest BMW / Triumph / Ducati Technician! Cheers
Hi John, too bad the season is coming to and end for you - I'm not a huge fan of winter riding but I dare say it's more doable in Buckinghamshire than Manitoba!! All the best - TMF
Who says bikers turn up in a town and just drink everything, fight, and plunder, then strap the women onto the bike and disappear in a cloud of burning rubber. Looks like your enjoying yourself mate. Very civilised behaviour.
Greetings from California.......I look forward to your videos....informative and entertaining
Hey hello California (love it there!) - glad you find my videos of interest, great to hear from you!
Enjoyed the tour very interesting, will look forward to part two cheers.
Thank you - glad you found it of interest :0)
Another great ride and history lesson , you sir live in a beautiful country
+Jack Peterson (Reaper 2) Thank you Jack - it's easy to forget to appreciate what you have on your own doorstep sometimes isn't it....stay tuned for part 2 soon! All the best - TMF
Yes very true looking forward to part 2
Know these places well and you did them justice. Have to say this post has some of your best one-liners too; Skoda, Daewoo, serving operatives . . . . . I chuckled on many occasion. Keep it up!
Thank you Stu - more to come soon!
You make very watchable video's, something the TV productions with their motorcycle efforts could learn from.
+Mark Winney Thank you Mark, appreciate the kind words....
Thanks for taking along for the ride and a bite to eat. Looks like a quite little city. Best to you!
Good to hear from you again....not sure any of these places quite qualify as a City (in the UK to be a City a town has to have a Cathedral) - not sure how it works in the US though??

but i could not of resisted a tea stop at Orford Quay
will await part 2
Yes, surprised myself a bit there to be honest.....
Love your bikers britain loops vid. Almost feels like i'm there with you :-)
Great stuff, it feels like you're coming along when I ride 'em.....

"You really can't beat Blighty when the sun's out". Very true. The only problem is those sunny days are, alas, few and far between!
+richard0807 ...and that's the problem with Blighty!

+monstermarkone Aha well that's something I've learned - always good to have some local intell- cheers!
That's a lovely part of the country. I've visited it many times and sampled the Adnams ale and fish n' chips at Aldeburgh. Great video btw.
Thank you Jon - part 2 is available now too!

+Nick Laskaris That can only ever be a good thing eh? ...and goes some way to alleviating the menace of horses on the road....

Hi TMF.... quick question. Which brand of hand guards have you got. I am looking to get some and just curious as to how you find them... worth it or not over the standard hand guard? thanks in advance.
They are Touratech and I'm really pleased with them - all the details in this video >> th-cam.com/video/kxDjschoL_g/w-d-xo.html
Thanks... i thought i had seen all your vids... missed this one. Cheers and have a great Christmas & New Year.
You too - cheers....
have you thought about doing a europe trip to the alps? would make a great series !
keep it up
Yes I have, just haven't managed to make it happen yet! All the best - TMF
believe me, the experience is worth money and sweat ;D
you wont regret it
...it's on the list for sure!
+Chris Esser Funnily enough until this trip I've had no issues, but just this last week ive had exactly that problem! Still have the knob though!!
Some have said that greasing the mechanism fixes it. Mine is just at first service, so new, but it's been sticky/gritty from the start. If it ever feels like it's stuck, believe that it is LOL.
+Chris Esser Thing is I have been greasing it from the start!! May try a bit of WD40 followed by 3 in 1 (gently!)....
Funny you should say that Wayne ;0)
I shall wait with baited breath..
No need to resist the chip shops. Everyone knows bike calories don't count. :D
I enjoy all your videos, but is there any chance to record/upload them in 60fps? That would make these vids perfect, IMHO. Thanks
Crikey - where was that? Any other witnesses??? Had you been drinking ;0)
How do you keep your kit so clean? i have the save RST kit and i wash it often but it never seems to come out clean. this would make a good vlog don't you think?.
I wash mine once a season, get all the liners and armour out and then a biological wash - seems to come out like new each time!
umm i don't use bio i should try that next time what temp wash as bio is normally a hot wash?
No hotter than 40 degrees seems to work for me - doesn't come out spotless but does freshen the kit up a treat....
+TheMissendenFlyer thanks will try that
Great video, why do you find the time for all these trips (and video editing) TMF? I'm convinced you have a time machine ;-)
He he, well I'm only working part time currently so that helps.....
TheMissendenFlyer nice 👍🏻
Christ...I'd forgotten how flat and boring it actually is there!
Still, you had a nice ride by the look of things.
Although this one wasn't my cup of tea, very well put together vid thou 👍
Cheers Stanley - I always appreciate your kind comments but it's not compulsory to watch ;0)
+TheMissendenFlyer there's always one 😂
+TheMissendenFlyer never been told so politely to fuck off 😂😂
Your a star 👊
House on stilts = House in the Clouds. Skodas driven by posh since chavs took to Audis and vw passats
Ah thanks for the info - local intel by chance??
The chip shops in Aldeburgh are owned by the same guy
Lucky fella - he must be doing something right!
Good day John from Winnipeg here. Spending my weekend prepping my GS for winter. Good job on all videos. Check out Wildwood Motorsport - my son is their newest BMW / Triumph / Ducati Technician! Cheers

Wow - not spammed!! Nice one ;0) ...and I think I might prefer the stereotype eh!!
Did you ever in all your years have a crash on any bike??.
I’ve come off a few times but luckily nothing significant - mostly stationary drops!!
