There are two types of Donnels. The Donnel that is the weakest character in your party so you kill him off almost right away, and the Donnel that ends up destroying everything without even trying.
First play through: Donnel you worthless piece of shit!
Second play through: Donnel you god amongst men
Third play through: Oh shit, there is a bunch of enemies over there. (uses Donnel) oh shit, there were a bunch of enemies there, good job there Donny
Forth Play through:...Not done with my fourth play through, but he married my avatar, which is my first female avatar...so yeah...my point is he kicks ass once you start to use him.

I have a confession to make: For the first half of the game I actually thought that Lucius was a girl.
Donnel? Useless? He he... HAHAHAHAHAHA!! That's funny.
He was useless. Then I handed him a sword. Then I made him breed. Now I have 2 city destroyers beaten only by two of my custom characters. Even Cynthia can't take down and my Cynthia could probably solo Grima. I mean technically she could use Chrom's sword and all.
Uhh, Donnel IS useless. You can turn him into a powerhouse really early, but post-game he can't keep up with most other units, especially once children get involved.
what the hell? donnel was probably one of my only characters that i could not pair up with anyone and throw on a field of enemies and get ou alive with at least 6 kills in the endgame.
***** Endgame. Try postgame and see if that's still true. Donnel would not survive Rogues and Redeemers on Hard or Lunatic.
ManCave Mayhem finally. Someone who played the game to its full extent. Donnel is a useless in lunatic and lunatic plus where it is practically impossible for donnel to level up unless one has access to dlc. Hell Frederick, an oifey, when fully leveled and max stat cap is a better overall unit than donnel

I think mine is the snobby girl. That said, you should make Lissa a dark flier with galeforce. Galeforce is the only thing that Donnel lacks to make him the best. That said, almost any female offspring can learn Galeforce.

Did you say hours of grinding him? If you use him carefully and just rank up his lance skill he can actually fend for himself fast-ish.
What I do is level him to lvl15. Then second seal him into merenary

All you have to do is get him to lv 10 ,without dying, and change his class to a better one, he is currently one of my best characters.
Romeo Solis I used him as a joke for my first playthough but then he became my best unit.
Donnel became one of my best fighters after leveling him up a couple of times.

I got Donnel going pretty good, and had him marry the bunny lady :3 boy has balls to keep setting traps when there is a humanoid animal on the team, and bigger balls to accept her challenge of making a better trap and WINNING.

Donnell has very good stats and good growth. If I recall these are his max stats as a Hero:
Str: 43
Mag: 24+
Skl: 45
Spd: 41
Lck: 48
Def: 41
Res: 35
Classes: Hero/Warrior/Bow Knight/Fighter/Mecenary/Villager
That Defence and Resistance is so sexy. Also, when you complete Apothepsis atleast on the normal route, you can say which units suck and which don't. Also Donnel can make Noire, Nah or Kjelle learn Galeforce which is very handy.
He may be nieve. But everything he touches is f**king awesome.

Donnel is not worthless, my donnel is usually the one leading 75% of battles I start, and literally destroys everything in sight, learn to train, and get good kid. (YES, I JUST CALLED YOU KID, HOW DO YOU FEEL) Btw this is advice.
Meh, it just depends on if Donnel training or not. Like, he's not completely sucking in my play through right now, but that's only because I had to reset to keep him from dying.
Never bothered to level up Donnell? Make him a mercenary, give him Armsthrift. He has the best luck stat in the game.
Have fun giving him weapons that will never break.

How can you call Donnel worthless, but not even talk about Fredrick, Anna, and to some extent, even Libra?
lunatic and lunatic + for the first 5 chapters should be called Frederick emblem. Thats why. Donnel is practically impossible to level up in those diffuculties unless you have dlc. On the hardest difficulties he would be a liabilty and a waste of a second seal. Infact if you max every characters stats up,donnel's stats would look pale to others in comparision. The reason why donnel is good is because of him leveling up his stats at a better rate.
Nate Lazarte I agree, on my Lunatic run, Fredrick was the star, but after most of my units had their classes changed, Fredrick is rendered useless.

You see, in Dutch (my native language) and in German, the j is pronounced as a y, so I automatically pronounced Kjelle as Kyelle. That might be a possibility?
On the contrary! Donnel is actually shockingly good. One of those "Sucks at the start, becomes a BEAST before you realize it" units.

You know what's insane? Donnel is actually my second best character. I don't know how I did it, but I got him to level ten then changed him into a mercenary. After that, he started to tear shit up. Then I leveled him up to a Hero, and started to level grind with all my character. Before you know it he's got a rating of 256. I'm dead serious. Right behind my Dread Fighter Avatar with a rating of 287. I have way to much time on my hands.
More like not enough. Donnel's only OP at first because of his growth rates. Other than that, his caps are terrible.

It depends. Try pairing Lon'qu & Olivia; that pairing could help Olivia double DLC Anna with a boost (around 75 Speed). Lon'qu himself has a base Speed of 49.

If you want an answer about the whole "same sex marriage" thing, he stated in the Fates summary he stated, and I quote
"Even though I'm rocking with gay marriages, I try to get my avatar away from this character (Niles) because then, you miss out on the key feature of the game, which is children." Even though it may not be exact, it is a pretty damn good interpretation of what he said.
Yarne being a beast (pun intended) is because of Donnel in my game. I prefer Kellam to be a thief instead of a knight because of how NOBODY notices the guy. And I think you're on to something with Flavia and that other khan.

Actually Nah isn't an actual female loli, her real age just isn't absurdly inflated. She's the same age as the rest of the child characters.
Some of them are young though. Also it isn't specified if she is more recent in the world or later. While Lucina was born first she wasn't the first in the world, hence why some are older.

Having Anna as a wife can be a little hard at family reunions. But I spot her easily by seeing who hasn't taken any damage and crits every time. (Trouble on the battlefield? When in doubt, Anna with crit-forged Killing Edge everything)

Donnel is actually a personal favourite of mine, he functions great as a Hero after he picks up Armsthrift because of his high Luck stat. Also, Aptitude is pretty useful early on... and then in my game I married off Donnel to Nowi and got a super-tanky Nah.

It's actually not too hard to level Donnel to the point of playability if you use the Paralogue 2 Island trick,which you most certainly SHOULD be using in a no-DLC Lunatic/Lunatic+ run. From there, you can reclass him into one of the top 4 class lines in the game. I've never actually tried this strat, but in theory it should put him above some of the other characters in Lunatic
He's pretty suboptimal as far as modifiers go, though, so no Apotheosis for him.
