    Smashed it! Look like you packed really light.

      We thankfully only needed 2 really small backpacks. Riding a road bike with a backpack is uncomfortable even with only a little bit of weight. Thanks for watching. Best, Will 👍

    Great video, looks like you got great weather for it too.
    If you haven’t done it already, you might like to do the W2W, Walney to (Wear in my case, Whitby in yours?)
    I found it just as scenic as, or even slightly more so, than the C2C.
    I did it on 32mm road tyres on a CX bike.
    Cheers 👍

      Hi Gaz: here is the accommodation that we used. All these were booked through Booking.com and should be easy enough to find.
      Whitehaven - Lismore Guest House - Exceptional
      Penrith - Lounge Hotel & Bar - Pretty good
      Alston - Victoria Inn B&B - Not bad
      Darlington - Bannatyne Hotel - Pretty good
      We found the lengths of each day to be about right by splitting the ride at these locations. Although we finished in Sunderland we headed for Darlington as it was on our way home 👍

      @@wstravels that’s brilliant thank you so much. 🙂. I live in Sunderland so would have to ride past my house to get to Roker to dip my tire in the sea haha.

    Thanks for the great video, fabulous scenery.
    I'm thinking of doing the ride in the summer and wild camping along the way, is the route easy enough to navigate? Is there any kind of map app that would guide me or would I need to buy a map and plan the route myself?
    Thanks again
    James

    • @wstravels
      @wstravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James. Thanks for your compliments and glad that you’re planning on doing the ride yourself. It’s brilliant fun.
      You’ll see that we travelled very light with just a small backpack along the way. Staying in B&Bs helped to keep the bike light. But, the ride is definitely do-able whilst wild camping.
      The route is very easy to navigate with blue cycle network signs at every turn in the road.
      I would however recommend downloading an app called GAIA GPS. I use it for all my rides and hikes. It basically lets you plot a route and then the GPS marker helps you follow along.
      You’ll find the route I created for the C2C at this link here: www.gaiagps.com/public/LAPtWoxPwJeffRAqKnKiyIOh/?layer=GaiaTopoRasterMeters
      Using an app is entirely optional though and honestly isn’t a must have but it is a nice safety blanket if you don’t seem to be seeing a blue sign for a while!!
      Hope this helps and best of luck for your ride!
      Thanks, Will

    Great video, Would it be possible to share the GPX file as the Gaiacloud does not allow me to download

    • @wstravels
      @wstravels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah! Sorry the link didn’t work. The best place to get a GPX file for the C2C is either on Komoot for desktop only (www.komoot.com/tour/48434631?ref=itd) or GPS routes at bottom of their page (www.gps-routes.co.uk/routes/home.nsf/routeslinkscycle/coast-to-coast-whitehaven-to-tynemouth-cycle-route)

  • @bram7659
    @bram7659 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lovely video! Did you pick a route specifically for road bikes?

    • @wstravels
      @wstravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We followed the official Sustrans C2C route (and signposting) and it’s primarily road and asphalt cycle path. Their website says “83.8% Asphalt, 14.3% Unsealed firm, 1.8% Unsealed loose”.
      Some of the 1.8% “loose” was quite bumpy and more suited to a gravel set up. But on the whole we found the official route to be very doable on road bikes!

    Based on a law of averages and reasonable fitness, how far is it possible to cycle in a day? Maybe starting out about 7am until teatime

    • @wstravels
      @wstravels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aiming for 60 miles / 100km a day (assuming 1000m or less of elevation) is a good goal for a fit person getting in to cycling. It’s very achievable. That’s about 5 hours of cycling. I’d work up to this before doing a multi-day trip though!

      @@wstravels I've always wanted to cycle from Birmingham to Weymouth, about 175 miles. Thought of doing crazy stuff like doing it all in one go, bit like Guy Martin when he crossed that Chinese desert. Cycle through the night

    • @wstravels
      @wstravels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@46FreddieMercury91 that sounds awesome! Chase the Sun run events in the UK on the summer solstice that cover 200 miles between sunrise and sunset. Anything over 150 miles in a day is a true challenge on a bike! How the professionals do that every day for weeks on end is insane!
