जब दुर्घटना या किसी अन्य कारणवश ब्लॉक सेक्शन में इंजिन पूरा लोड खींच पाने में असमर्थ हो जाता है , तब अकेला इंजन या आंशिक लोड अगले स्टेशन तक लेकर जाना जिसे गाडी विभाजन माना जाता है।
