Playing and walking in the mud getting your feet muddy is just as much fun as an adult as it was as a kid. The differences are you have no parents yelling at you for getting your feet muddy. You can get them as muddy as you want and play in the mud as long as you want. Another difference is the footprints you leave are bigger and probably deeper than when you were a kid. Just remember that anything that gets stuck to your feet washes off later.

You are a wise person. Mud can actually be pleasant to walk on, just sometimes a little slippery or hard to get off your feet (so it's good to have a way to clean up before getting back into civilization). When you are barefoot a puddle is a refreshment, not an obstacle. And I agree that it has plenty of advantages if children don't even get used to shoes as they walk: They will grow up more healthy, stronger, have more fun and feet always fit unlike shoes that they constantly grow out of. They experience more and are more aware of their surroundings. So if the climate and circumstances allow, it would be best to let them go barefoot all the time (unfortunately some cities are very dirty and it takes a community effort to improve them).
