I’m in the camp that wants an Elder Scrolls TTRPG, but one that does NOT use the D20 system. It could even feasibly happen but it would have to be pretty fleshed out and set in a suitable Era. I would put it well after Skyrim in a time when the Empire and the Thalmor have all collapsed, and it's a new fractured age where not even the old provinces are wholly united amongst themselves. High Rock would thrive in this environment. I'd also include solo or one-on-one play as the default since I honestly think being the lone wandering adventurer and single Hero is what makes Elder Scrolls shine, but there would be optional mechanics for traditional group play. Characters could of course be the same races you could be in the video games, maybe with options for local variants (Colovian Imperials vs. Nibenese Imperials as an example). The classes you could choose from in Morrowind and Oblivion would be there, such as unique ones like Witch Hunter or Acrobat. I would add story hooks to make suitable Elder Scrolls-type supernatural threats, but also ones of a more local level. Exploring would be the main "loop" here, as that is what Elder Scrolls games are good at, letting you get lost in their worlds. Maybe progression can be measured not in how many monsters you slay but just in the type and quantity and potency of your experiences as you adventure around.
I'd also love a TTRPG of the Vampyr game or even its whole universe. The vampires in that world come in many different "species" like the ekons who are essentially the "classic" vampire that Stoker popularized. Then you've got the Vulkods, a bestial hulking vampire that stands out amongst people. There are also people in that universe called Banishers who banish or lay to rest the spirits of the dead who have not moved on. The Banishers were introduced in their own game, and I would be elated if they added the other horror classic: the werewolf. I love things like the Chronicles of Darkness (favorite TTRPG setting I have to say) and even parts of the old World of Darkness, and I very much backed Curseborne so I could see similar monsters, but I want more! Vampyr's worldbuilding and vampires feel so fresh, even if there does seem to be some inspiration they took from World of Darkness. If it was just one book like Curseborne, I'd let everyone have access to whatever monster or supernatural type. Banishers and Vampires can work together, or it can be an all vampire game of just the different vampire species. I could see the same drive and gameplay loop being similar to its CofD, where you must struggle to accept or defy your current state while navigating both visceral threats and political machinations and personal relationships.

I designed a bit of a Digimon TTRPG system because I wanted to explore the how implications of virtual pet systems and self-betterment through mutual support themes seemed like they could blend, and the answer seemed to be "really well through the lens of a TTRPG".
I had designed the Digimon to represent one core value - based on either the Crests from Adventure 1 like Courage or their still virtuous subversions like Prudence. Betraying that value would give you a Care Mistake. Reflexively embodying it would give you a Bond Point to be spent by using their special powers. For example if you spent a Bond Point with Commandramon you could have them gift someone a grenade for later use. Doing something that truly embodied that value could, if the Tamer was a high enough level and the Digimon had been alive for enough in-game days, unlock the next evolution. It would also completely refill Bond Points and undo one Care Mistake.
Each in game day consisted of three meals and you needed to make sure your Digimon was fed and that they slept comfortably or you would get another Care Mistake for each of those violation. Whatever you feed your Digimon would give a different stat boost until their next meal, and the trend in their diet was tracked to determine the evolution they would unlock. Branching evolution like that is the heart of many V-Pets like Chao and Tamagotchi so as a way to determine if Agumon became Greymon, Tyrannomon, Tuskmon, GeoGreymon or Veedramom it seemed like a perfect fit. Evolution was temporary but every use moved their next reincarnation closer. The amount of "Lifespan" they had for doing this with increased with Tamer Level.
The big catch was - Care Mistake could lead to Dark Digivolution. In fact once you got over three Care Mistake you would have a ten percent chance to Dark Digivolution for each Care Mistake that would be applied every time you tried to Digivolve. Dark Digivolution is when a Digimon becomes so corrupted it just rampages, and we have even seen Dark Digivolutions kill their Tamers in certain media. (Probably worth noting Digimon has always had some kinship with the horror genre.)
The main difference between a death by Life Span and death by Care Mistake is that the Care Mistake death would destroy the Digimon's base self - being reborn with no memories and unable to be reborn with the same Value System (Courage Digimon must become something else like a Levity Digimon)... essentially the being that used to build itself off of that indestructible spark of life hated being bonded to you so much it chose destruction. Virtual Pets do love inflicting trauma after-all... You Chao Garden fans know what I am taking about!
UNFORTUNATELY I have abandoned it because the base system that I designed for my Digimon, Sonic, Zelda, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Star-Fox tabletop games has instead become the basis for the video game that I am now making. The finer points of the Virtual Pet / Self Betterment system are FAAAR too Digimon coded.

@@TheGentlemanGamer It's playable enough that I have done one-shots but not exactly fully populated with balanced creatures and full evolution trees. If you want to try the basic system I would be happy to send you it, BUT as you can imagine that would take several full campaigns to flesh out properly in balance and setting regards.
But even without that the Digital Character Sheet for players exists for easing the experience on their end.
I had actually been making the tools in Visual Studios for making for mass production of the +1000 Digimon species when I was attending a gaming conference and my priorities got shifted. To put it simply it devs that I had basically already created the tools for some of the harder challenges that I would face in making a Tactical RPG meets Zelda-lite puzzle-dungeon game.
One problem with my unfinished Digimon TTRPG is that I hadn't written the setting, but Digimon's setting is basically inherently flexible due to the fact every piece of media is different universe. Bandai, and following their lead Toei, made the smart decision to make Digimon feel like a real urban myth in that regard - any two pieces of Digimon media are ALMOST as different as any two pieces of ghost or vampire media. As you can imagine that makes it deeply creatively compelling as a potential TTRPG target. Basically as long as you can take some variant of the idea that creating Cyberspace created an artificial astral plane that created a bridge to an unknown dimension filled with potential familiars who will soul-bond with humans which uses their bestiary and evolution-tiers, you're golden.
In my basic setting premise I compared it to any structure where the dream world is a bridge to the fairy/yokai world (which I actually populated with two real extra dimensions from Digimon lore, The Dark Ocean which is a dream-born world, and Witchelny which is a world like Digital world except it's base rules are written in "Sorcery" instead of "Digi-Code") BUT with one vital difference; our collision with the Dreamscape has had billions of years to come to a relative rest. I also had plans for two Tamer Groups, free-range and "The Data Inspectors", which was very loosely inspired by both Mage and Vampire since they provide a handy-dandy blueprint for the Urban Fantasy side of the setting... Doesn't hurt that Digimon is generally a bit more horror coded than most Monster Taming franchises (except SMT) anyway with it's trend towards psychological, and survival themes. (Plus the trend of the God of the Digital World often being a Boltzmann Brain take on the Demiurge doesn't hurt those vibes. Nor does Digimon's love of eldritch vibes, like the multiverse watching Eaters that exist outside the colliding realities, which once malfunctioned and started consuming a couple of them instead...)

This might be a weird choice but I think Paradise Killer might interesting. It’s got a fun vapor wave aesthetic, a variety of characters from the immortal cult Syndicate members, mortal citizens and guards, demons and the interference of demons and gods. Whether you focus on murder mysteries like the game itself or have the characters caught up in political schemes or the plots of the otherworldly beings interested in the island and fighting demons I think it could have a lot of potential.
Also Prey 2017 in a Mothership like sci-fi survival horror set up could be a lot of fun.

I just stumbled upon an article talking about a fan translation of an Earthbound game that involves dice and cards, but I would love to just see adventures in Eagleland (I think was what they called the world of Earthbound). You could have your own characters that could be similar or different than the main 4 in any of the installments. My primary amusement from each one was the items and the humor. Maybe having some form of random generator for adventures could keep the spontaneity alive.
On a similar note, a TTRPG of Kingdom Of Loathing could be great if it also managed to keep the humor fresh. Maybe somehow tie Cards Against Humanity into it so you get the pop culture references.

Arcanum came out too close to the end of TSR's lifespan to get tabletop conversion, and the coastal wizards pretty much ignored TSR properties for most of the past 25 years. And that's probably okay.
I love the magic/tech conflict; it would make a lot of trouble for a mixed party, but the idea of having your players decide which side the party will lean into or if they will try to split the difference is actually really interesting.
    Reject Ork return to Half-Ogre.
Settings with limitations and strong themes are inspiring and are generally better, with tailored rules and themes that pull the players in.

I think I once saw an advert for a Masquerade game set in a Bioshock adjacent setting, where a Camarilla splinter group, partly tired of the set in stone sort of hierarchy in which they couldn't advance, helped fund the whole undersea colony thing, and there was some sort of disconnect from the mainland. I've never actually played Bioshock mind you, so not sure how closely they were following that. It also didn't line up with my schedule so I didn't apply. No idea how it turned out.

There was a game about it so it counts. The SAW TTRPG needs three things: a limb system, traps must puzzle combat encounters, a way to adjust traps to fit PC Bonds. There is like dozen of these movies. There are very fleshed out formulas for plot progression. There are three types of roles: police, victim, and apprentice. Players can flow freely between them. They are potentially antagonistic towards each other. Police look for victims. Victims try to survive traps of the apprentice. Apprentice fights against the police. If you are Mark Hoffman, you are potentially all three.

Okay, if we’re to take digital roleplaying games off the table, I can a think of a few I’d enjoy, though for very different reasons. I’ll attempt to include some vague systems/mechanics ideas too. Starting off, let’s go for Dark Pictures Anthology (by the creators of Until Dawn). An anthology horror rpg designed for one shots and short campaigns, I see it as light on rules, heavy on tone, with one or two special rules for each horror genre, and a premonition mechanic triggered by discovering photos. The Gm (Curator) would give you a few cryptic hints about a possible death (maybe throw in a reroll at the critical). And depending on production values, premade photo handouts could also be cool; creepy images that symbolise the threat broadly, with the hint providing specific information. Also, if the rules and character creation were simple enough, it would be interesting if players could control two Pc’s at once (optional, of course), so that lethality could be applied properly. Curator could have a split counter that allows them to scatter the party once enough points have been accumulated, story beats hit etc.

Okay I know this is kind of cheating since it started as a webcomic and I know the fandom (as well as the creator) has a bad rep, but hear me out. Homestuck. The game it involves (Sburb or Sgrub depending on which species is playing it) would be interesting to explore further. The class and aspect system has been touched on but never fully delved into, the denizens likewise were glanced over with enough information given to make them interesting, each player getting a planet with their own individual quests, etc. That said it is definitely partially scripted. An example of established anchor points is evil moon v good moon, the goal to murder or otherwise take the power granting rings away from the evil rulers unless external actions make things go off the rails (those external factors happen quite regularly), the space player needing to create the ultimate frog, the first run being fated to fail to some degree, and the prize at the end being survival coupled with presiding over a new universe unless external factors mess with things (which has happened).
The downside, however, would be that it’d be a bit difficult to run in the traditional group gathered around a table sense. A lot of the characters did their quests solo or in pairs while usually only interacting through messengers unless they were on one of the dream moons until they reached the final stages. The only way I could see it working without putting an over abundance of work on a singular GM is if it was either A) handled like solo games that happened to converge, or B) set up a rotating GM system so a player could run things for another player. That last daisy chain option kind of reflects how the connections happen in the comic, but not entirely.
If that’s too cheat-y for folks my backup would be the dot Hack series. Not Link. Link was a way to explain what happened in the other media that was getting harder to get ahold of because, like above, the continuity wasn’t just locked to the games. My reasoning is that IMOQ and G.U. (as well as the non-video game stories surrounding them) have really compelling world building, actively focus on how the characters are handling things from both a psychological and quest side, and has high stakes. Compared to the above it’d be a lot easier to implement. The World is an MMO. It already has classes that have been fully delved into. The plot lines, while not the same, do parallel one another to the point where setting up a new big bad would be easy. No fancy alternate systems needed.
