    *COUPLE OF THINGS*
    1) I know it's no longer the holiday season, but I recorded this in December. Just, y'know, cut me some slack maybe?
    2) Also, THANKS FOR BEING HERE IN 2018!!! You all are awesome!
    3) Here are those two videos I mentioned. VariantComics collab: th-cam.com/video/qeNcwcQQ0JA/w-d-xo.html and Star Wars video th-cam.com/video/C25xry0NywY/w-d-xo.html
    4) We already have the next two videos written and recorded, so we're ahead of schedule this year! Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
    5) Five is too many things.

      Nitpick: You said that graphite is opaque and brittle, but by contrast diamonds are clear and hard. This is true...but "brittle" and "hard" are far from antonyms. Case in point, diamonds are both hard _and_ brittle. In fact, their brittleness comes in part from how unyieldingly hard they are.
      Just a point to be made.

    • @hindsightpov4218
      @hindsightpov4218 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      All diamonds have an irregular shape in their raw, uncut form. Superman would probably use his heat vision to shape it into its symmetrical facet form.

    • @adamlovelace7572
      @adamlovelace7572 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I realize that, but the video shows animation where he produces a diamond that's already cut and faceted. Presumably the general public wouldn't know what a raw diamond looks like and even if the artist or animator did, they would choose to use the story telling shorthand of him producing the finished diamond we're familiar with. I guess I'm just pointing out how absurd that is.

    the one thing you forgot is that superman examines the coal before he makes a diamond, proof of this is in superman 3 were before he asks for a piece of coal he stares at the coal then grabs a specific piece, so x-ray vision is clearly a part of the procedure .

    A few points:
    1. HPHT diamond grows at around 5 GPa, so guessing the surface area of his hands as around 200cm^2 each, that means he is applying ~10 million Newtons of force. That's a hell of a handshake.
    2. Even the fastest modern recipes for HPHT diamond take weeks to grow a big impressive gemstone.
    3. The HT part of HPHT stands for high temperature, as the melt has to be around 1500 degrees celcius, so he will have to awkwardly explain to the staff of the daily planet why Clark Kent is walking around with fiery death hands for a few weeks.
    4. Other than just graphite, you need a seed crystal and all sorts of additives to get fast growth and good crystal quality. You could say he carries these things around with him just to do this trick - but he has no pockets....

    Shit, I can’t wait for my mans Superman to form a bunch of diamonds varying in worth; for him to give them away free to anyone; devaluing diamonds(as if they had any REAL value) as a whole so the corporation that made them popular by advertising them as the thing you need for an engagement goes under. He’s gonna ruin the monopoly of diamonds that has trapped us for years. Truly a hero in my eyes, because if anyone I ever marry spends a month or twos salary on a ring, I will drop them.

  • @SuperSongbird21

    I always figured this would look more realistic if Supes gave the lump a few zaps of heat vision while he was compressing it. He could burn out the impurities in the coal, leaving only pure carbon, and if he's just squeezing it no doubt he'd just mush it into dust (I once read the 50s Superman story that introduced Titano the Super-Ape and at one point he tries to make a diamond out of coal but just makes coal dust because - to quote Lois Lane - "he doesn't have super-strength like Superman")
