Episode 30: The Fall of Vijayanagar
With Salim Ghouse as Ramaraya, Anang Desai as Effendi Aslam Baig, Pankai Berry as Ibrahim Qutub Shah, Ahmed Khan as Hussain Nizam Shah, Arjun Raina as Ali Adil Shah, Raniana Gaur as Tirumalamba, and Rakesh Dhar as Tirumala.
As Nehru notes, in the sunset years of the Hindu kingdom of Vijaynagar, it faced the Bahmani kingdom in the other great state of Gulbarga. The latter is now slit into five states: Bijapur, Golconda, Bidar, Berar and Ahmednagar. There are ample incidents for the involvement of the sultanates in the Vijaynagar succession and vice versa. To enhance his chances, Rama Raya seeks the aid of Bijapur. In fact, Rama Raya seen as a consummate intriguer is safely ensconced as a regent and proceeds to pursue a tortuous policy of advancing Vijaynagar’s frontiers by exploiting the rivalries among Bijapur, Golconda and the other Bahmani successors.
As the events here show, Rama Raya succeeds in fomenting mutual enmities only too well. During 20 years of complex intrigues where Rama Raya believes in making personal appearances rather than sending emissaries, loyal or otherwise, he provokes the sultanates to such an extent that they come to fear for their very survival. He invites, for instance, Adil Shah of Bijapur and entertains him to a spectacular torch- fire dance, before professing fraternal affection for him. This immediately sows discord against Bijapur amongst other sultanates. It appears likely that Rama Raya occasionally outrages their Islamic sensibilities by intruding while ‘namaz’ is being offered by a sultan.
Certainly, and fatally, Rama Raya overstretches those frayed loyalties on which Vijaynagar’s cohesion had depended. In the drama, this becomes evident when the four sultans from the Qutub Shahi, Nizam Shahi, Adil Shahi and Ibrahim Shahi clans patch up their differences and consolidate their gains by judicious inter-marriages in 1564. While Rama Raya refuses to pay heed to the ‘writing on the wall’ and remains blind in his faith in Vijaynagar’s superiority, the four sultans turn on him in concert. To meet the gathering storm, Rama Raya summons his Nayaks even from as far south as Madurai. Most do respond, but the Vijaynagar forces are, as seen in the battle scenes, catastrophically routed in the battle of Talikota in 1565. Rama Raya himself is wounded, a fact initially concealed to prevent loss of morale, but eventually beheaded, and the losses are colossal.
The magnificent city of Vijaynagar, seen with its massive walls and ingeniously designed gatehouses is deserted and the Nayaks withdraw to their individual territories. Still the city, like the kingdom, appears to have suffered less from the conquering fanatics and more from the deepening internal crisis of authority paving the way, among others, for foreign invasions including those by the Portuguese from the high seas.

Interesting thing is that how Ram Raya and Ali Adil Shah talk differently about each other face to face and behind the back, behind the back Ram Raya called out Ali Adil Shah and all other Sultans' debauchery and lack of rulership who constantly require an overlord while on front he treated Ali warmly like a true father guiding him and Ali also behind his back always called out his tyranny and meglomaniac tendencies but face to face he always behaved meekly like an afraid son seeking father's approval and love.
It shows no matter what time of history it is no relationship formed in politics or between two politicians can be genuine or truly caring no matter how genuine or warm it seem

Real story :-
Vijaynagar was the only prosperous Kingdom then. In krishndevraya time it gained the prosperity to its maximum. Gold silver diamonds used to trade on street. Even some travellers also stated that "humpi"was the most prospers state they had ever seen..
And the Muslim sultanate were jealous of it... Ultimately they combined and attacked vijaynagar... And even after this formation and even when Ramraya was 90 years old then... The army of vijaynagar was defeating all 3 of them... But "Gilani brothers" betrayed in the middle of the war... Imagine when you will see that the soldier fighting nearby you.. All of a sudden started attacking you.. And then you see the chaos happening all over the Warfield... Then defeat is inevitable... And that actually happened.... Ramraya was killed and beheaded... His army after seeing him dead... demoralized... which was quite obvious...got killed by Muslim army... Not a single soldier left alive...
Then muslim army assembled outside "humpi" and waited for 3 days as the common people inside the town still didn't believe that the army which didn't see a single defeat in the last 200 years got defeated...but..... Then muslim army entered in the city and.......destroyed it completely.😔😔... Looted... Burned the city... For approx 3 months....

When you don't know the full topic please don't make a scene out of it. Yes He helped and sheltered Ibrahim and Ibrahim waged war against him but he didn't engage that for the personal interest he did that so the allying sultanates don't do any harm to him. He was married to also married off his sisters to other sultans' relatives. Why did the war happen? It happened because Rama always used to insult the sultanates and wanted to profit from diplomatic relations and he did for over 20 years. Until Nizam shah orchestrated the war all were obligated to join because most of them were bonded by marraiges.

there are other historians that give other reasons 1. saluva ramaraya removed all brahmin ministers and office bearers and replaced them with family members who were loyal to him 2.he had old wornout dysfunctional guns used by krishna devaraya .3.gillani episode was brewing for more than one year with jihadi mullas freely moving in vijaynagar brainwashing the muslim soldiers and ramaraya did not take corrective action 4.ramaraya believed in infantry and cavalry commandded by old men . 5 .the muslim armywas commanded by youngmen and had a turkik gunner who filled metal coinsand pebbles to make a anti personnel gun and fired and saw 5000 of infantry fall down including ramaraya .6. all the 20 gunners filled the barrel with stones and pebbles and fired .7 . it was around this time the gilani brothers changedsides and vijaynagar army which was not modernised was routed from battle .

Well the history is written by several people according to their wish or as per their ruler's wishes but the shown things are not always correct.. many history books and authors also tells a story that the last king of Vijayanagar was executed and his body parts head were used later at certain places where human shit was flowing from his mouth thus they have portrayed mentality of those Sultan's of that time... this author is trying to portrayed culture according to his wish.. but truth is truth and it will be always bitter... if the Hindu Rulers would have stuck to basic principles of any war "Do not missed any opportunity to execute enemies" this would not have happened right from Prithiviraj Chauhan's execution... This attitude of Hindu leader was later changed by only one person whom we respectfully called as Chatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj.. Afzal khan , Shasta khan also Khandoji Khopde executions are some of examples
