- FIRST LOOK: The Cross Trek is receiving a total redesign from Subaru for 2024. On the outside of the sport you will find a unique front fascia, 19in wheels and gold accents. Om the inside there is an 11.6in screen, new cloth interior and leather wrapped steering wheel. Under the hood there are (2) different engine options both bolted to a CVT. Is the 2024 Subaru Cross Trek the BEST new compact SUV to buy?

Love the new colors on the 2024 Crosstrek. Cannot wait to trade my 2021 Limited for the color shown in the video. Glad there's an upgrade to the cabin noise as it's the only complaint I have had on my current model. Great presentation of an excellent and fun vehicle to drive.

Great job as usual Joe and Lori! Glad to see the LED lights and the armrest in the back seat, along with the charging ports in the back instead of inside the glove box! We bought the Sport last year and love it!! This one is really more sporty. I wonder if there will be a Crosstrek Wilderness? Thanks again guys!!!
How is it more sporty? It looks more like an Outback than the previous Crosstrek which looks more like the Impreza haha. And they’ve gotten rid of the manual E brake… come on
@@aztronomy7457 to me the new rims and the striped all the way around. But I like the 23' we have the more I compare the two. But gonna wait and see whenever the other colors and trims come out. I'm with you though on the E brake I prefer the manual!

I wish they would design the gearshift area and cupholders section like this but for the outback because the current set up is stupid the way to cupholders are positioned and it just has so much more usable storage currently has. You can clearly see that they have all of the same features that they have in the outback into a better center console area package here.
The Crosstrek has always made me wish I had highschool age kids. Perfect blend of safety, practicality, and winter driving with a manual in the older ones to keep their mind on the car while driving but slow as a dog 😁
The 2.5L is fine, but not as slow as the turtle.

Yeah I think so too. My jaw dropped when I heard Sport starting at 39K, that would make the Limited close to 50.
Nope I have 23 sport now as a shop loner sticker is 33. Car had 10 miles on it. Limited its 38 with nav for 23.
@@Wrang15 He meant $29,000 for the SPORT. Limiteds are running $34,000 MSRP....in Chicago area...so don't know where the hell you live. The 2023 Sports are at + - $30K.

Styling? That “gold” trim 🤮. The “Sport” badge from Walmart on the side🤮. The wonky angles of that black plastic cladding all over the place 🤮. The gloss black trim on the hatch…with the matt black elsewhere…and fake carbon fiber🤮. Hire a GOOD stylist Subaru. Sometimes less is more. And as a former WRX owner, don’t get me started on how you ruined that legend, after teasing us for years with a killer WRX concept car. P.S. We still have a last gen Crosstrek, so I am not a Subaru hater.
Loving the look of the crosstrek I’m from the uk and I’ve got a 2017 manual XV as it’s called here although I like that they’ve standardised the name I just wish we got the same variety of models over here that you guys get.

Loving that particular color and the gold accents, but am slightly disappointed in the HVAC losinig glove friendly knobs. Think I'll looking for a 23 Sport in Gold....
I'm reading articles that state the Sport wheels are 18inch not 19inch? Also the Sport isn't 39K, but expected to be a bit over 30K, just over 32K for the Limited trim. I'm diggin this Alpine color with the yellow accents.
I am diggin it. Only wish it had a panoramic sunroof, and electric assist for the passenger

Joe, thats one of my favorite new cars around. I can't tell if there are turn signals on the mirrors. maybe on the top trim level. yes they have them Joe, I see them now.

We need a high profile for Arkansas dirt roads and a towing pkg that can haul a toy hauler...looking at the 2.5 Crosstrek, would it work. Cargo Van is about 3000lbs loaded.
My sister has had two Crosstreks. Solid car! She has had no issues except for the windshield on her first seemed prone to chipping and very pricey to replace. Her first. 2018 model also had very poor interior sound insulation too. Her new 2022 is so much better. I can actually hear her talk on the phone while driving.

Sounds like Subaru forgot who their customer base is. MT & 4WD/AWD are their calling cards.
@@r2dad282Yeah, because they have been selling so many! Decisions are based on sales! Clearly , as with other automakers,, manual transmissions are not a majority of sales any longer. 🙄 . Just like automakers are moving away from base models as well!
@@ms.b9093 That's not what's happening. Subaru isn't a good example, but go visit the VW UK website and compare that to the VW USA website. We get 15 models, the UK gets 30. The UK gets all these optional engines and configurations, the US doesn't. If what you say is true, our situations would be reversed because the UK is such a tiny country population-wise compare to the US. So why do manufacturers shortchange US drivers? The WRX take rate on MT was like 80%, but if they offer that option in fewer cars, in fewer configurations, the auto will prevail if dealer lots don't have manuals. We've seen this across the board. TYoung people just don't care, because a car is just an appliance to them.

While Subaru did a good job of dividing and chopping up the taillights, still, I was hoping the "C" lights were gone forever! Great review as always!!
Those crab claw taillights are hideous!!! And made even worse by that stretched out piece that wraps around the side like on a Ford Explorer.

Im not sure the price difference between the base and sport will be that drastic. I got '23 sport for about 32,000 by the end of the process.
Outside anesthetics have definitely improved on these, but man, those touch screens are a nightmare. Same one in my Legacy XT and along with the steering wheel button layout you'll be more frustrated than happy with the use of these. The car will yell at you telling you to keep your eyes on the road and you're only trying to adjust your climate control....The car itself is saying their system is unsafe to use while driving. Only negatives I can say about the car. Was hoping Subaru cleaned this up.
The touch screen is sooooo bad. I have a current Outback loaner for a 2017 Forester XT in their shop, and the screen is so slow, but everything functions through there. They need to get it up to speed if they want me to use it for everything. It's a full stop for me, I wouldn't buy a new Subaru personally right now with that tall tablet screen.
I'm sure there are many at Subaru that did not agree with this giant tablet. It is the antithesis of function and all things Subaru. My current 2018 Forester is like gold. 😂
Rear windows look like Mazda 3 small. Bad move by Subaru. Their cars are known for great visibility and they fell into this make it worse trap for sake of looks.
Cross trek rear visibility is actually fine. I also have a Forester and GTI for comparison. The c-pillar is no where near a Mazda 3 Sport bad.

It’s hard to be surprised when in fact the Crosstrek was already unveiled in Japan last Fall.
There was no confirmation of the available engines in the US, nor was there confirmation of the US Crosstrek keeping its 8.7 inches of ground clearance.

I have a deposit for a 2023 Crosstrek Sport due 3/8 but wondering if I should wait a couple months more and get the 2024? I wanted a Limited with leather and wonder if the Star Tex will be hot in 90+ degree summer.
Crazy my dealer just gave me a 2023 with 10 miles on it as a loner. OB is back in the shop for its 2nd cvt. I would get a 24 the screen I the crosstreck is way behind the 11 in. Plus the 24 gets the new eyesight.

Much cleaner redesign than the previous version. I wonder if Subaru has any plans on adding a hybrid trim in the future? At this point in my life, I can only buy a Hybrid/EV with gas prices not going down any time soon. I like Subaru's direction with the Crosstrek though, while keeping the price reasonably affordable.

thank you very much for the review. I don't like that plastic cladding. it didn't look pleasant on a Subaru I saw today on the road with that cladding sticking out of the Vehicle's body. I don't know how that can be fixed. not a good idea where it snows and gets driving on salty wet roads. It's annoying harsh weather I will tell you that!!

Just bought a 2021 crosstrek with the manual! Sad to see it go.
I like it but those colors are clashing. A nice black might work and help bring out the red in those tail lights. But not with gold running though. 🤷🏻♂️

I have a 22’ outback and love it. Very nice car. However the infotainment system is something to be desired. It’s buggy and crashes at times. All wish they would not have integrated the fan speed control and seat heater controls into the screen.

Got my 2024 silver Crosstrek sport on the way, sticker with destination fee was $31,200.
Don’t like the gold stripes along the sides. Love the new colour. Think I may trade in my 2021 Sport.

It reflects the popularity of the car and Subaru never have a lot of production capacity even prior to Covid.

Hi SweetBrooke, I have a question. I also have the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. Does your wired Apple Carplay randomly stop working? Do you have to unplug and plug your phone back in, only for it to stop working again? I feel like I am the only person in the whole world experiencing this. I can't replicate it. I can't find anything on the issue online. It frustrates me.
@@J_S_246 Yes it does do it sometimes. Unplugging and plugging back in again. It’s annoying sometimes your not the only one trust me.

I would remove the “Sport” badge from the side, the other design elements tell you it’s a sport trim AND it’s in the back. Keep it clean.
You can pry off all the moldings and badges...put some big red mud flaps on there.....and suck down a Redbull while driving.

One error Subaru made on this car, no REAR AC VENTS for those extremely hot hot days. Honda made this mistake also for their HRV. Other than that I like this car overall. Thanks Joe, same bat channel, same bat time, same bat personality (1960 Adam West Batman that is : ) ).

I’m digging this suv,And this perfectly defines the dog transporter lickity split;I could easily transport my three huskies back there! But the zonk for me is that’s it’s only made in a cvt. And I could get my official Raiti’s ride off-road Twinkies in there,what’s the difference between this special Twinkie and a regular Twinkie? It’s that instead of cream it’s actually rocky road ice cream and it’s gives you five extra horsepower! Great job as always you two! You guys are the best! 😊😊😊😊😊😊

I’m with you on the CVT tranny…however, 2 of my daughters have Subies. ‘21 CrossTrek and other has a ‘23 Forester. They both have the 2.5L boxer and the CVT has been tuned quite well and is better than I ever thought the CVTs could be. My daughter who has the ‘21 CrossTrek had an ‘18 CrossTrek before and I definitely had difficulty adjusting to the acceleration and overall feel of that CVT. But the newer model Subies have a more responsive and smooth CVT. So I understand why Subaru sticks with it. It would be nice to see them move to an 8-speed auto though.

@Redeye Who Dominates The Drag Strip ....... I've got a '21 2.5 Limited with the CVT, and its my first go around with one. In all honesty, it's not that bad. There have been waaaaaaay to many folks making negative comments over the years that have probably never even driven one. As someone that's owned my share of vehicles over the decades, don't draw conclusions without giving one a test drive. It does what it was built to do just fine and knocks down 34 mpg on the highway .... which is nice. My other 2 vehicles require "premium" gas and neither of them can get 20 mpg on the highway. 😁

Loved the car but I’m gonna pass on the non LED turning lights in the back, hope we can add it as an option at least cause this s a huge turn off!
Exterior is a win! Led headlights on the sport should have been standard on day 1. Interior is a miss. Sport was known for its synthetic leather seats that are stain proof. Cloth is a big downgrade. Not having rubber mats or trunk mats is a bummer. Only minor improvements on the interior. Power seats are nice but I can live without them for better quality seat material.

Absolutely love this car and how it drives, I currently have one, but 180hp still isn't gonna cut it. This car is so dang slow. Yes, it is not a sports car, but you literally don't move when trying to accelerate in this car. They need to put the engine from the WRX so that we can put a COBB tune on it.
These cars are designed to operate within a certain range. The CVT alone tells you that everytime. I tried some fun in the snow with the paddle shifters and the car actually shut down. These are 4wd commuter cars good on gas if you drive it as intended.
We'll have to wait for Joe's 'road' review of the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Hopefully over the next 1-2 months. 0-60 in 8.2 s they say?

Heated steering wheel??! The tech has been available in Canada for years and, living in northern US, I’d never get a new car without that feature. I can’t find any of these reviews that can tell me if heated steering wheel has crossed the border.
Are there any new Subarus that don't have the CVT?
There are many cars at all in this range that don't have a CVT. I have owned several cars with them....and they are just fine.
Is there a plug in option?

I love my 2014 MT Crosstrek. Subarus are good cars, but without the manual transmission, I have no interest in the newer Crosstrek anymore. The transmission, infotainment and styling are dealbreakers for me.
I can only imagine having to adjust your climate control while driving a manual in these. That touchscreen is not made to use while driving.
I don't want "Rally-esque"... I want huge rally off road lamps like they used to use years ago! That would look so bad ass!
