Replacing an old style tachometer with the new Volvo Penta tachometer
installation and wiring
This is a basic guide to calibrating and installing a new style Volvo Penta Tachometer on a boat.
standard volvo panels use the bezel supplied with the new tachometer to mount
we also guide you through the calibration procedure to select the code for your engine and when to press and when not to press buttons and switch the ignition on or off in the correct sequence.
Once you've done it at least 10 times it's quite simple 😄

4 pin plug to 4 PIN PLUG (as per original tachometer)
old +12v (blue wire) that went to light bulb of old tachometer connects to the BLUE WIRE of new tachometer.
+12v Positive supply to RED WIRE.
+12 volt can be obtained from the ignition switch (key or button supply red wire)
....To Calibrate....
Hold down the CALIBRATE button behind tachometer
Whilst holding down the button switch on the IGNITION (do not start engine) - PULSE is seen on LCD screen
Release button.
Then Press button again for 2 seconds until a CODE 01:IGNIT appears on the screen
Release the button and press it quickly once again to increase the code by one.
Keep momentarily pressing the button to move the code up until you get to the code required for your engine. see code table in instructions.
Press and hold down the button for at least 2 seconds to confirm the code
release when PULSE appears on the screen.
Wait approx 30 seconds for the screen to reset to Hours display 0.0
Switch off the ignition and then switch back on and then start the engine.
The tachometer should read the correct engine rpms.

Unfortunately you cannot change the hours, the hours are stored in the tachometer.

Sorry I've only just seen this message.... Its Code 20 - TAMD40 has an inductive sensor which counts the teeth on a rotating wheel it measures 33 pulses on each rotation.
