You should TOTALLY do the Short Film. It adds a whole other layer of depth and imagery to the song!
It's so great to watch someone experience this song for the first time; it is generally considered her best work. Yes, a dude did ruin her 21st birthday by not showing up when he said he would. That dude was her on again off again boyfriend at the time, Jake Gyllenhaal. In fact, the majority of the songs on her Red album are about their trainwreck of a relationship (they were 20 and 29 at the time). The joke where she says "I'll get older but your lovers stay my age" is a dig at the fact that now, at age 42, he still isn't married, doesn't have kids, but is dating a 26 year old French model. Taylor's savage pen strikes again! Definitely watch the short film, it hits even harder with the visuals, if that's possible.

It's so crazy seeing people's first reaction be the ten minute version. I remember when i first got Red on cd when I was 8 and now here we our with the superior rerecording.
The short film does add some details & context that just makes the whole thing hit EVEN HARDER!!

Though i really do encourage you to watch the short film however i think this song deserves much more, get to know the history you know? So basically the song is about Jake Gyllanhall whom she started dating around October or September of 2011, they dated up until december of 2011 Probably because he never showed up to her 21st bday party (December 13) From what we know Jake would be extremely manipulative towards her and gaslight her constantly, she was 20 he was 29. The short film will add so much more but again I think you should react to the original 2012 recording of the song, The instrumental is strong and sounds better in my opinion, her voice sounds raw since it was the first song written for red so it was recorded right after the breakup, along with that her preformance of All too well either at the grammys or red tour, Though she was emotional while preforming it at the grammys, she would visibly cry during the red tour, ill post a link to a good tour video below this, but yeah awesome video love your channel!!!!

This is the greatest lyricist of the last 25 years working at the peak of her powers. Nobody paints a picture with words like Taylor can. This is why I say she is the greatest living exponent of what I call eternal songs. These are those songs that when you hear one of them for the first time it sounds familiar like it’s always existed yet it’s new every time you hear it after that. And her greatest songs never lose that emotional impact.

This is one of her most famous songs. Basically the grand finale for the Red album. You don't have to record it but if you listen to her entire Red album (The Taylor's Version of it) then you will get it more. I really love this song because it has references to her others songs in Red. Twin flames were mentioned in the opener track, painting him blue is the mentioning of blue like in her song red. Love affair being mentioned in sad beautiful tragic. The party mentioned was her 21st birthday which is explained more in The Moment I Knew. And just every other song has it's mention in all too well (10 min). It's a very unique and great album closer for red!
