2:00 I was a feeder operator. Feeder operators not only procure paper board for the press but also air out and restack the board so it will feed through the individual units without smashing a blanket. Feeder operators are in trouble when blankets get smashed. Feeder operators are in trouble when the feeder isn't adjusted right to keep feeding. Feeder operators are in trouble when the first pressman has his period. Feeder operators are in trouble if the skies aren't sunny. I hated that job. Floor sweeps are assistants to the feeder operators and keep towels folded (per each pressman's specs) and chemicals filled and pressed oiled and electric pallet jack batteries charged, etc, etc. I preferred that job.

IIRC the Miehle was rated for 6000 sheets per hour but we never exceeded 3-4000 because it was old. And the Harris was about the same but a little newer so I think we got maybe another 1000-1500/hr out of it. The Manroland was fully capable of 9000 and actually more than that but we weren't set up for more when I was there. It's my understanding they got a new sheeter (a machine that takes a huge 2200# roll of paper board and cuts into designated sizes for each job) and with the new sheeter they could actually get close to that designed for production quota.

Where I worked the pressman didn't remove anything. The floor sweeps supplied board to the sheet fed operator and had the board in rows so they didn't get too far from the press and the sweeps also removed the finished printing after any varnish if required and powder if necessary and then took it over to a section for drying before cut up operators came for it.

What they call towers printers call units. Our presses were much bigger than these. And that sheet that's pulled out on this end just means they stopped mid-production and restarted. But on the sheet fed end that kind of thing would smash a blanket. So you either had to take it to an airing machine (imagine an accordion stretched out..ok imagine a couple thousand sheets of paper board stacked on top of each other. You can't possibly pull that bad or irregular piece out by hand. So you take that load with an electric pallet jack to the airing machine. You push the pallet load into it and then you clamp the load down in the machine. Like a vice. And then you push a button and it's lifted hydraulically so far up and then you turn that pallet of board on it's side and carefully release some of that clamping pressure.. so it's like an accordion.. and then air is forced through that board until that bad piece or several irregular pieces can be pulled out and then you blow air until it's uniform and then clamp it down and turn it right way before lowering it. It's just one of those things you learn and get better at.. I've seen some dump a whole load of board in the airing machine and then it's much harder to get straightened up.) or stop the press right before it enters the first unit. Each unit has a blanket and a bad piece of board could smash more than one blanket before someone pushed emergency stop...or if it gets all the way to the first pressman and he sees the smash in the work you're going to wish you were in your alternate life far far away in another galaxy.

Max E Gonzales it depends of what kind of press this is. What I mean is that some press have U.V. lights to work with U.V and hybrid ink. Some can only support traditional ink😉

I used UV inks in all of my presses. They are compatible on all presses. Used them on 5 color GTO. And my Komori 5 color w/coater.
