    As a 1300 player my takeaways are "calculate full lines" and then "evaluate the positions of different lines", "speak out loud to externalize your thoughts".

    Andras, this is absolutely fantastic - extremely helpful for me and I'm sure it will be for many other players at around my level. I can see a clear path to improvement by following your advice about calculation. I knew that one of my weaknesses was not considering my opponent's resources enough, but you helped me realise I need to check them on every single move. And I should definitely learn to reign in my optimism with objective analysis.
    Fun fact, Eric Rosen and I are the exact same age, except he was born Sept 93 and I was born Oct 93! Distant cousins?

    In terms of bang for your buck, this video series is absolutely excellent as far as educational value goes. I really hope you do a hundred more of these, as these are probably the best source of videos I've found on TH-cam in terms of the insights that they can offer as to the type of thinking to correct for amateur players.

      @@ChessCoachAndras you know I usually don’t leave a comment here but I do find it quite strange why your channel lacks views. I’m not sure if it’s just the TH-cam algorithm, like for example there’s a channel I watch called Hanging Pawns. He’s a motivated club player who makes videos on opening theory and goes over his games. Yet he nets a lot more views on TH-cam. But I’m sure that even he would agree that your content and teaching is way more convincing then his for good reasons. I’ve think you’ve mentioned you have a teacher background, which initially drew me in to your videos because you reminded me of my favorite teacher way back in high school, who would challenge his students by not just immediately giving the answer, but forcing us to use their brains and as a result he was quite easily the best teacher we’ve had and our results massively showed in comparison to other teachers. When a channel struggles, it’s either the creator himself is boring, the content is uninteresting, or it hasn’t been marketed enough. In this case, I think it’s probably the visibility, which you’ve tried to address with collaborations and podcasts. However, finding the solution to this (admittedly not easy as I’m making it out to be) while keeping up the quality seems the best route forward for your channels success. There are stories of people struggling for many years before they got to where they are at today. Your content is excellent, so honestly I have zero doubt in my mind that you can’t be amongst the more popular chess personalities going forward you just need to grab that chance with both hands when it comes.

    Another awesome job Andras!!
    I love how you talk about comparing and contrasting the two different positions and then drawing a conclusion. Rather than just drawing analogies by itself.
    I feel like my own knowledge of openings is limited, so the first step is to learn more of the main lines and then play them to see what happens in reality. Then compare and contrast to see advantages and disadvantages of theory versus inaccuracies or blunders in real games.

    Fantastic video! I enjoyed this immensely and learn a huge amount from your videos in general. One thing I do notice in your videos, though, and not just this one, is that you seem to respect the Lichess ratings a little too much, perhaps for fear of 'insulting the players. I don't think you need to worry about that as people generally want to know what their real strength is. I am around the same rating as Fionn on Lichess and I am nowhere near 2000 strength, that is something of which I am 100 percent certain. Sometimes you say things like "This is not how a 2000 player should think", but to be fair to Fionn, I would say 2000 Lichess translates to about 1600 ELO. When you get higher on Lichess, around 2300/2400 the ratings do seem to be more accurate though.

    If I could push back on one of Andras' critiques: He says if it's not our move, we shouldn't be thinking about what kinds of moves to make abstractly, but rather to think/calculate in variations. I disagree with this. Think in variations on your own move, and think about how generally to improve your position in terms of plans and ideas (often this can involve calculation too, especially if it's a sharp position) during your opponents' move. I agree that Finn's idea to 'find tempo-gaining moves on the queen' is quite shallow, but I do think it's best to start with a plan for improving your position THEN maybe calculate some during your opponents' move.

    The thumbnail shows a rating of 2600, but that's an internet rating, which we all consider suspect. Why not proudly show your FIDE classic rating, which is 2377. No need to show an inflated and, to most of us, fake rating.

    • @ChessCoachAndras
      @ChessCoachAndras  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For many reasons, one of them is that the student's relevant rating is the online one, and so the FIDE rating here would make an irrelevant comparison. If my "fake rating" (whatever that even means) is the biggest mistake we made with this video, I am super happy.
