The Cosby Show was ground breaking in many ways but most importantly it showed a black family in a positive light where even when they had a disagreement they worked it out with love and understanding.
Phylicia Rashad loves it. The legends have talent. not faking it. its not Auto tune or Lip sync. The Legends stand at the Mic and sing. Ms. Patti Labelle stood at the mic and sang. Awesome!!!!
Patti missed a line and played it off perfectly! Nobody can miss a line and embellish like Patti LaBelle. He's got everything you need. All He asks is that you heed... Patti just sang the everything you need and she seemingly got mixed up on the 2nd line, but instead of getting mad with the teleprompter or cue cards...she just embellished and waited! She also did this on "This Christmas" and it was a hit! If you need someone to sing something last minute and pull it together, please consider Patti. She's a dramatic soprano so no one is going to sing higher or drown her out .. and even if they go a little higher, like say Mariah Carey... Patti has a powerful voice. More like an operatic voice. She can sing over the choir and other soloists to say nothing of the instruments

To see Ms. Rashad become tearful was moving..love the lady and the character she betrayed and what we as black people needed very strongly at that present time...a wide difference from Good times.
South Standards I like Good Times, but also liked the Cosby Show...I not from the hood (my farther was though) but I understood their struggles as a black person, but I was a suburban child so I related more to the Cosby Show being brought up in household with white collar working parents. But what I understand from my parents Good Times was revolutionary and groundbreaking for its time, specifically in the beginning because it spoke about injustices and topics that many blacks could relate to from their generation and older. It’s just a thought..anyways loved this song when Phylicia sang it on the Cosby Show (a show which was also ground breaking for my generation).
The Cosby Show stands on the shoulders of Good Times, which opened doors for more people of color to be the center of the show and to bring reflections of the sign of their times.
I'm good Pat. What I was saying (which you certainly don't have to agree with) is that this composition is an attempt to "recreate" (if you will) the sound and feeling of a traditional "Negro Spiritual". Patti's rendering was more in the vein of gospel music. I LOVE gospel music, but gospel music and Negro Spirituals should be performed differently. (In My Humble Yet Professional Opinion).
Right?! Ms. Rashad's rendition was and still is very popular, hence the cameras panning to her reaction. Obviously she's loving Patty's performance also.
I am sick and tired people talking about her. Shit she apologized what more do they want she resign as a professor @ Howard University. She doesn’t need them. She is to professional, very talented, she is a very beautiful women and I love ❤️ her and her sister Debbie Allen very talented sister’s

It's crazy, when we were younger and had voice, choir, even when I went off to college. One had to have classical training and spirituals were all we were given to sing. Different times.
@@saraschneider6781 Debbie is no where in this video. That was the other honoree, Janette Cole the former President of Spellman College. That's why the camera was showing her and Phylicia, because they both were being honored. Debbie looks nothing like that. Do your research.
Love this song but prefer the version Phylicia Rashad did on The Cosby Show...with that glorious choir. Patti LaBelle fractured that last note along with all the glasses and mirrors close by...

Phylicia Rashad still looks beautiful. They should have had her reenact her performance from the show. Now, don’t get me wrong here. I’ve always loved Patti LaBelle. But, she should not have been the one performing this song. She has gotten too old, and lost most of her vocal range, and ability to hold a long note. I’ve been performing for 5 decades. But over the last few years, I have lost my 4 1/2 octave range & lung capacity. There comes a point when even the ones once the best need to step aside & bow out gracefully.
I really don't think Patti had the right voice for this song!! It was more graceful and touching when Phylicia did!! Her singing was more humbling. Patti was more so entertaining!! My opinion!!
Have you ever thought about the fact that patti labelle is aging like people tend to do? And also she's a diabetic which may have some bearing on the ability of her voice? But even still, she's still around, singing and sounds better than most of the new comers behind her.
I love Patti and am usually here for her, but she oversang this song (in my opinion). She started off great but towards the end she started screaming and squalling, which was a little much.
pat gorden chill. I love Patti as much as the next fan but I think she oversang the song at the end. I know I’ll be alright but if you compare this one to Phylicia Rashad’s version, she does too much

At 67 or 70 she still is vocally incline, unmatched,. and down right ruthless in her voice technique🎤🎤🎤🎤
Phylicia needs to grab the mic out of Patti's hand.
