This is the best talk on neuromarketing bar none, even compared to the 5-6 TED ones.
Cannot believe this is for free.

Y'all didn't take books into account before we got smartphones. Books are media. My husband spends a lot of time reading books online.

Thank you for a super-interesting discussion.
With respect to regulation being outpaced by technology (mentioned at 45:38), the thought is disturbing. Given that so much of our culture celebrates market autonomy, it will be quite a challenge to get people to consider that further caution may be prudent with some technologies' advancement/expansion. For example, with AI, it will soon outperform us in every area of cognition, and thus, eventually in every meaningful domain; in such a case & time, prudence has come far too late when we have already lost control to an existential threat; we will have then become subordinate to what was once our technology.
Without being too far to the side of hopeless cynicism, I see that we are mostly without control now in terms of our ability to enforce regulatory restraint, and that our future thus rests in the hands of corporate decision-making.

To me advertising is inherently unethical as it encourages irrational consumption and frivolous waste of resources. The application of neuroscience in this manipulation only increases its abuse.
