Nicely resonant story there. In my early days of dadhood a had a GTi6 as my daily and when the sprogs were smaller it was highly practical. Happy memories of 7000 rpm and them in the back laughing like maniacs and shouting "faster faster"! The GTi6 is now "resting" in one of my sheds, awaiting that elusive resurrection. Love that car. My daily now? Modified WRX with suitably preposterous mpg. With age comes no wisdom. The sprogs are nearly as tall as me now. They just about fit in the back, and still love the noise. No point shouting "faster" now, though. I wouldn't be able to hear them and "faster" is redundant...
Nice video. Number 27 sent me.

0-60 is actually closer to 7 seconds. Peugeot reportedly loaded them up with luggage and/or passengers during testing to keep insurance costs down. Still not very quick by today's ridiculous standards but more than ample to make swift progress.

Taking this on some twisty roads will be a lot more fun than most modern stuff…

I'm a similar age to you Ben, and I still remember this as the OG Big-Boy Yobo hot-hatch. Still looks great, manages to look subtle and understated, but you'd never confuse it for a bogo 306. It's a shame the Naturally Aspirated engine is basically dead, even a humble n/a 4-pot sounds lovely. What a wonderful throw back, although now I do feel slightly old...

I’ve had my 98 306 Rallye for 11 years now. Sadly my little one has only been up the road once in it due to a few dodge garages butchering it but he already loves it. It sits in the garage currently awaiting the day I get to drive it again

It’s an absolutely great hatch, but if you drive it back to back with the 205 1.9 Gti it still feels very grown up! I still drive a hot hatch today as for my local small country roads it’s the best point to point option, driving the same roads for 30 years, my still favourite is the Mk2 16v Golf, which is just a bit more solid than the French equivalents. Great review as ever and an entertaining watch thank you.

Another very good video mate. I'll be 36 later this year and remember when I was 16-17 306s were one of the coolest hatches to have, though it was much more common to see lads in badly modded Vauxhall Novas with massive exhausts, lol

I’m sure you’ll agree, how we drive alone in the car is completely different to when you have little ones with you. Wouldn’t feel overly safe on a long run in this. Will make a video soon asking the question, at what age of car is it unsafe to carry little ones on board 🤔

I believe the reason everyone makes 5 doors and don’t offer a 3 door variant unless it originates as a 3 is the tooling and production line costs. It’s cheaper for them to crash test and R&D 1 shape rather than 2, and keep the associated body panels in stock etc. it’s all because of the accountants to maximise margins.
