**PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING** REGARDING THE SOUND ISSUES & Historical accuracy I'm aware of the audio issues present in this video I had issues with the recording due to the nature of how I decided to record this video. I've since figured out what was going wrong but seeing as it was recorded in one session I didn't want to record all that dialogue again. I've since adjusted my approach and how I will do it moving forward. I do appreciate the feedback though. Thanks for watching despite the audio hiccups. I've received a couple of comments about the misinformation about the dropping of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs, there seemed to be some talks about negotiating a peace treaty , with some demands in place, America wanted a full surrender though. There is an article in the description you can check out. It is important to get out the right information when it comes to historical accuracy. I'm just one person and try to do as much research as possible but like any human i get things wrong. I appreciate the help in making sure these historical facts are right.
When people talk about modern "strong female characters" I always site Yuna. She isn't physically strong, but mentally she's insanely strong. I absolutely love her. As for X-2 I love it as well because to me it's so realistic that the world immediately starts fighting each other and I love that Yuna sticks to her convictions and keeps doing what she finds right. Also I like that she gets Tidus back as it feels so earned, if anyone deserves happiness it's her.
I played FFX when I was 12 years old, and I'm fairly confident that it influences the kind of girls I'm attracted to. Now I'm married to a woman that is cute physically but tough mentally lol
Yuna is one of the best written characters. She is the only character that was willing to sacrifice herself since the beginning of the game, just for the change to bring a short period of calm. She was selfless, even after being betrayed by her own “god” and beliefs she was still willing to continue until the end. She was also insanely brave. It was her decision to defy Yunaleska and put an end to the final summoning, destroying a 1000 year old tradition in its tracks. Yuna is my favorite character ever!
Bringing Tidus back also makes sense when you consider the themes of X. Tidus taught everyone to keep fighting for the best solution rather than settling for an imperfect but easier stopgap. He did it for Wakka in Blitzball, and then for everyone with defeating Sin. So it only makes sense that the person he had the most profound impact on wouldn’t settle for letting him stay gone.
FFX is in my opinion the greatest game ever. I played it when it came out and still go back to it on various consoles. Emotional, engaging and the best combat system.
Easily one of the best stories of any game ever, graphics nearly five years ahead of it's time and a leveling mechanic that's never been properly replicated since. If it's not the best game ever, it's certainly the best JRPG.
I filled the entire sphere grid. I don’t remember how long it took me but I could kill the final boss with one blow from any character and I was so proud of myself. 😂
When I was a kid, my brother and I put in around 300 hours of work. Getting all the celestial weapons was a challenge, those 200 lightning dodges we're time consuming considering the amount of time it took me.
Lightening in a bottle is the perfect phrase for ffx. It was so much greater than the sum of its parts. For whatever reason, they just got the mood, tempo, story, art, music and characters perfect for one another. The game was far from perfect and yet it was perfect. I think the personal nature of the story with a fish out of water story worked so well. Now the stories feel sterile, corporately packaged, and over thought.
2:56:14 the reminder, everytime you started the game. That this probably didnt have a happy ending. Early in the game you know yuna is not going to make it. Then, you go through the entire game. Raging at the immutable fate you KNOW is ahead. And yet, you must push on. You dont get to the end by quitting. So you continue, having faith the journey will be worth it. And, it is, entirely. And then, our lovers open up to each other....making everything so much happier, and yet, so much more tragic. And so we push on. And then we get to that opening scene, and we realise, this isnt the end....theres hope. So we fight. And we tear down the gods in defiance........and we change Fate. My personal journey through this game was wonderilly choreographed by the creators. The Journey through the game mirrors yuna and tidus.
I'm no scholar but players who go through the laughing cutscene and come out of it with the simplest of an idea or them going right over their heads is remarkable. There's so many... So many...
You know, no one talks about that opening monologue. That moment when Zanar talks about going back home and spending time with his dad and bonding over their love of Jecht and Blitzball. Its not only well written, its well performed and believable. It really creates a feeling you're here in this city with its own people and history. As openings go, FFX has one of the best opening levels because you do really feel like you're in another world
Something I never really thought about was that Bahamut was Braska's first Aeon, so in a strange way an aspect of Yuna's father was watching over the boy she'd eventually meet and who would help her and the others destroy Sin for good, it's interesting how that just fell into place like that
Considering the fayth decided to use Jecht and Tidus to kill Sin, Yu Yevon, and end their own dream, I feel it's far more likely that Bahamut/the fayth decided to use Braska and his daughter for their own ends, rather than an aspect of Braska following Yuna. Although, with the dead becoming a part of the fayth after death, it can be thought that Braska was 'following' her the entire journey, since he's a part of the fayth collective.
Dude this was the best retrospective I have ever seen for X. You clearly laid the story out as well as all your points. I thought you weren't going to touch on the Auron unsent bread crumbs but you came through towards the end of the Zanarkand chapter. Very nice and now one of my favorite channels. Thank you so much Spoon!!
You're welcome and thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed. I've done Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IX ( of which I'm really proud of), and currently working on Final Fantasy VII.
I think Anima is a perfect counter/compliment to Seymour’s own trend of duality. He’s half man/half Guado. In this case, the summoner is male, the Fayth/FA is female. Her design (as I see it) is masculine up top, feminine in the destruction world. That is added to by the time that the masculine bit is forcibly restrained (a traditionally female problem), while the female bit is allowed to unleash her rage (a traditionally masculine trait). The top is in pain, the bottom causes pain (with the exception of the special move). The creature itself is monstrous, while the arms holding it back are more human. The top has eyes to see all, the bottom has no eyes. It looks to be based on a zombie, which goes along with the unsent of Spira being undying, neither living nor dead. The aeon is very dark, while the Fayth is very bright. In her scene before obtaining her, she clearly regrets the destruction she’s caused, yet her whole theme is destruction. Even just this one OPTIONAL aeon/fayth is such a tragic character. That’s one of the many reasons I love this game even after 20 years.
I got FFX for christmas with my ps2 in 2001. It was the only console i ever had given to me. I remember playing on my parents sega and n64, and dude even now the fact FFX a game from 2001 still holds up. This may have been the biggest graphical jump in gaming history, and i dont think its even close. Ff9 was the game that helped shape you, this is the game for me. I still relate to tidus.
It amazes how well graphically it still holds up to this day. I remember thinking back in the day how big of a jump in graphics it was, it blew my mind,. especially those FMV's. Gameplay wise it's still really solid too. To this day I still haven't seen a battle system that focuses so heavily on understanding how each character plays and actively needing to change them out like Final Fantasy X does. It really was ahead of it's time.
i really hate most people’s criticism of the laughing scene, the full context of it being an awkward forced laugh is literally in the scene itself, of course within the context of the story it becomes a somewhat tragic scene, but using it as an example of bad voice acting comes across as them not having actually watched the scene themselves
Thanks for making this. It's clear to me that you put an extraordinary amount of work in this, the quality is high. I've been a fan of this game for the past twenty years almost now. I learned alot in this video especially in the development history section. Fascinating. Thanks again!
One of the best games of all time. Replaying it after about 20 years (finally found an unscratched cd). Thank you for this upload. The perfect fix inbetween playing.
I finally made it to the end of the vid and man, how deep and detailed the talking about religion, politics, media, etc was amazing. Well thought out and researched. Thank you again for the vid.
Sometimes I think ffx needs a remake. Then I remind myself of how trash ff7 remake is and how square is not the same developer. Realizing that even if they made a remake they would ruin it so why bother.
After FFX it went all downhill honestly. I tried to continue to support them but I only played 13 and 15 afterwards and it was disappointing. I also have to agree on the FF7 remake. I would have been ok with it if they didn’t change the combat system
One small note for Wakkas attack reels. You line up 3 slots for 1 or 2 hits EACH, and if you match all it doubles it. So if you get 2 2 2 it hits 12 times!
So glad AI stumbled upon this video. This was my absolute favorite FF game. I remember playing on my PS2 in middle school. I didn't want it to end. I wish I could say that I've felt that way about an FF game since.
I'm playing this right now with my 10 and 7 year old. They beg me to play it every night because they are invested! Go ahead and start with them, and they'll fall in love with these games (we started all the way at FF1)
This game was ground breaking when it was released. The voice acting, the graphics, the way you get pulled into the story. This game was released at a perfect time in video game history.
Im one of those guys who played this game when it first came out. I had no clue X-2 would have even been a thing. Man this game had me messed up back then. Still to this day, decades later, that scene where Yuna is on the dock whistling....man it still hits me. Perhaps even more now since Ive done my own whistling so to speak. Its a very special story, perhaps even the best SE has made. There have been grander stories, stories with more heroism, and even stories with more badass moments. Yet, this one has a direct line to your emotions. I agree with Tidus and Yuna being the best love interest duo. I love Squall and Rinoa, but its like holding a candle to the sun comparing the two.
Thank you for sharing, I only get to imagine what that was like. I enjoy Squall and Rinoa for different reasons I'll get into it once i cover it. I agree with you though X just lands differently.
I just beat this game. Why cant they make video games like this anymore? I dont just mean turn based. I mean games with this level of storytelling and passion
3:48:51 that canon ending for x-2 is only for those that bought the strategy guide to know how to actually get the 100% completion and not miss anything
3:51:48 FFX-2 isn't all bad in relation to how it affects FFX's ending. It's story can actually reinforce FFX in a beautifully bittersweet way depending on how you look at it, as well as which ending of X-2 we are actually talking about. For instance, I head-canon that the true ending to FFX-2 is the game's "Normal" ending. It's (ironically) perferct for its own story! Yuna doesn't ask for Tidus back. She moves on--saying, "it's better this way"--and somehow finds her own happiness in the Eternal Calm. And as a result, all of that 2.5 (Novella)/Will (Audio-drama) bullshit--which I consider to be the TRUE disservice to FFX by turning it into a fanfiction-level mess of weird, gross, and convoluted sludge--will never take place! Besides, I choose to see things this way because, to me, the Normal ending is the most natural ending for Yuna's journey. Everything in the story of X-2 is thematically telling her to move forward--to push past the powerful yet fleeting love she had for Tidus: -- Brother points out that he likes the version of Yuna that "looks forward" the best. -- Issaru abandons his desire to fulfill his dashed dream of pilgramaging to Zanarkand, and instead takes up leadership within New Yevon. -- Wakka reconciles with unresolved issues between himself and Chappu--the past--and he moves forward into parenthood with Lulu--the future--which their son is LITERALLY named after (Vidina means 'future' in Al bhed). -- Kimahri accepts his new role as Ronso Elder. Even going so far as to deny himself a full horn for his own statue, saying, "Kimahri think looking at road ahead better than looking back on things lost... Kimahri look at future." -- Paine overcomes her longing over the lost friendships she had with her Crimson Squad crew, and accepts the Gullwings as her new friends. -- Macalania Woods--the place Yuna and Tidus share their first kiss--is literally fading away. Symbolically representing the fading of her dream to be with him. -- Hell, the main antagonist is a rage-ghost from a bygone era that needs to be put to rest! How much more obvious can the arc of Yuna's hero's journey be at that point?! From the look of it, X-2 is all about letting go of the past and finding happiness by moving forward. But no, Yuna doesn't get to move on in the "Perfect" ending. She gets pampered and coddled with Tidus as a reward. A reward that she admittedly does deserve, yes. But one that I believe she does not need in order to truly be happy. I believe Yuna is stronger than that. With that belief, I stand by my statement that the Normal ending of FFX-2 is perfect for its own story. It reinforces the themes of its predecessor--which include transience, loss, and grieving--by offering Yuna a chance to mourn over and accept her loss in order to find a poignant and mature happiness beyond it. In doing so, I think that FFX-2 perfectly compliments FFX through its own themes of acceptance and reconciliation with the past. So yeah. So long as we're looking at the Normal ending of X-2, its actually not all bad.
It's not FFX 2 I have a problem with persay I'll get into it in a FFX 2 Retrospective some day it's what's considered canon now. For the ending. I like to think Tidus never came back and his death actually meaned something. Yuna was able to move on and find happiness without him the book and audio drama are what destroys the ending imo. And square has confirmed both are canon. Moving forward I don't see how a sequel can happen especially with what was layed out in the.audio drama
Your audio is very glitchy in certain spots, but don’t worry I watched the whole video. Just some technical criticism but awesome job, what an incredible undertaking! You should be proud
Thanks for the kind words. I had the entire thing edited by the time I realized it ( tried a new setting and it didn't work out well) and it was either upload it as is or scrap the whole thing and not upload it. So I chose to just run with it. Thanks for watching the whole thing btw appreciate it.
I really miss this game... Been nothing like it ever since. The first and last time I truly felt satisfied with a game and its ending. Hundreds of hours on a saved file. The scenes of Bevelle, the Besaid theme... and then for the post-game. Yuna was hard not to fall in love with, all of the characters were endearing and had depth.
Even though there were a few slight mistakes veteran players notice (you can't move on the Sphere Grid with every AP you get; you don't get your very first Al Bhed Primer from Rin, technically), it was very enjoyable nonetheless. I also liked your interpretation of deeper meanings/concepts in the game.
I think the reason this game became and still is my favorite game is how Nomura actually got told no to things. I play it once a year I love the characters and world much.
@@andreseh87 I know right!? Favorite game ever. Best characters, best world, best story, best summons, best everything. EXCEPT that fan-fiction level bullshit they added to the remaster. I couldn’t even finish that story it was soooooooo bad.
It's so true. I find myself thinking about this alot to be honest. Are games not just as good as they once were? Void of that passion that made their stories so special? It feels like modern games aren't as good as they once were? I sometimes if it's just me lol
When it comes to the laughing scene, I dont get why people are mocking it. If you've played the game then you would know whay it was an awkward laugh. These mocking are coming from people who either never played the game or just decided it join the bandwagon bc of reason 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
I played FFX when it came out (I remember playing a demo from a Magazine and it was definitely a day 1 purchase). So this was before X-2 was even announced. It definitely different to Aerith. Aerith’s death is sudden and unexpected; she’s gone and she dies in the middle of the game: and that’s it, you don’t see her again until the ending and can do some side content to see a brief glimpse of her ghost in the church. With Yunas pilgrimage is was different, as there’s a sense of doom over every citizen in spira that grows onto Yuma specifically. I don’t think I ever thought she would die; especially after Bevelle when it’s known it’s futile to call the final aeon. So while I felt the emotion of the story you always knew there was a twist coming and they would eventually find another way which they do, the twist being that tidus dies (or fades) instead. I think that happening in the ending as opposed to the middle like aerith had a very different emotional impact; had Yuna died calling the final aeon and then the party had to kill Yu Yevon once she broke the shell that is sin I think that would have been a different emotional weight again. FFX is a masterpiece. Great video
Thank you for taking the time to write out this comment and sharing how that experience hit. I definitely felt that sense of dread with Yuna with each citizen of Spira. Tidus took me by surprise though because I didn't expect him to be the sacrifice.
@@GamingWithSpoons yeah. That was the big twist for the game. I do think doing it in the ending lead to set up a sequel more than say Aerith will dies when you’re not done and you have to keep going. Also because the doom has been mostly over her there was relief in his death/disappearance. It was set up. It’s executed amazingly but it definitely felt different to Aerith I do have one criticism of X which does stop me replying it now (I’ve beaten it multiple times in the past) and it’s only getting exp if your characters act. So you end up rotating every single one of them every fight to get exp or it’s completely wasted, even if you’re just using cheer and pray etc. it’s a lot like draw in 8 and then fleeing. Playing another way is fine but you’re being consciously inefficient. Not as bad as 8 but the whole game becomes a breeze and battles become boring and start to drag. If you don’t do it you know you’re making a choice to play less optimally
The laugh scene is often called bad voice acting by people who don't understand it. Its Tidus having a small breakdown. It can be seen on the others' faces as they watch and Yuna commenting that he should stop. When he doesn't, she joined him and it evolved from the fake screaming laughs into natural laughter between him and Yuna. Its not an easy scene to watch, but wasn't bad voice acting
This was the first RPG and final fantasy game I ever played. I remember having a hard time against Evrae and Yunalesca because I spent more time using summons than actually using my party. Seymour Flux also gave me some trouble, but my characters did enough damage and I had good enough skills to win. Evrae is STILL one of my most HATED bosses because of what I had to endure during my very first playthrough back in 2003/2004. The first time I had actually beaten, after NUMEROUS attempts and at least 10 hours of level grinding, my game froze during the cutscene after his defeat. I also remember PERFECTLY how to do the Djose, Macalania, and Bevelle temples. I do know the first two really damn well, but I often misremember a step (i.e. I try putting the glyph sphere on the wall with the glyph and then it rejects me). I always make sure to get the celestial weapons for rikku, wakka, yuna, and auron. I don't bother with the other three because the minigames tied to them would break me (looking at you LIGHTNING BOLTS).
@@GamingWithSpoons Last I checked my very first file of X, my Yuna dealt more damage with her attacks (both physical and magical) than anyone else, other than my aeons. I have a great strategy for Evrae now. SUBURST!!!!!!
@@GamingWithSpoons hence why I never bothered with Onion Knight. Hell, during my current run I barely use Kimahri. I've started him on Wakka's path. I'm still amazed that the sphere fiend in the woods gives you more AP than most other storyline bosses
At 3:01:48, even though I hated the outcome that was soon to come, and I was feeling Auron about it, too, I LOVE how Jecht took that stand for Braska and Auron.
That scene hit hard this playthrough. It was that moment Jecht realized he wasn't going back and came full circle with his immortality. Realizing the world didn't revolve around him
As a child, when Seymour mentioned the ronso threw themselves at him. I just assumed he knocked them out or something. Shows how young I was I suppose. It's about the only thing I didn't get at least 🤣
People meming on the forced laughing scene annoyed me to no end to for the very same reason; it undermines the true meaning of what's happening there so bad. Tidus just witnessed an entire village get destroyed and then gets told that his father, a person he loathes, is responsible for that. He also starts to realize that his world is gone and he can never return. And then to top it all off the person he's clearly a bit smitten by tells him he's not even allowed to feel bad about it.... because others expect them to carry on a brave face. It's not bad voice acting in that scene... it's deliberate. It's a forced laugh of frustration and anger because he's expected to smile, laugh and be happy about it. With Tidus being a bit of a rebelious brat ofc he would let his frustration shine through and perform a bit of malicious compliance; it's simply who he (still) is but inadvertedly he also gives Yuna a bit of an outlet... smart cookie as she is she catches on to what Tidus is doing and decides to join in and the absurdity of what they're doing (causing the rest of the party to comment on whether they've lost their minds or not) eventually truly DOES make them laugh which must be a welcome outlet for Yuna as blitzball is for Spira.... Just because people don't realize what's happening doesn't make the voice-acting bad.... they knew exactly what they were doing in that scene and the people who meme'd on it clearly don't
I fucking love this game. I'm gonna replay it for the 100th time soon. I like to make all my characters way overpowered and then try to best the dark summons.
I've heard it said that there's a reason Anima is "so powerful", as Yuna puts it in the stadium in Luca. It's because it's a Final Aeon. It isn't actually the FInal Summoning that kills the summoner, but Yu Yevon's possession of the Final Aeon. Seymour completed his pilgrimage, Yunalesca turned his mother into a fayth for the Final Summoning, but he never actually used it to fight Sin. Instead he kept Anima for himself. And Anima is even more powerful for Seymour because it was created _for_ him. He's the one who shares a strong emotional bond with the fayth, and as Yunalesca clearly states, it's that bond that makes a Final Aeon so strong. Thus, Seymour basically had the most powerful Aeon in existence.
Everyone complains about the laughing scene, but the dude in the background screaming over the intense moment with Rikku in Home is INFURIATING!! I swear hes just yelling "Im annoying, huh!?!" ( 1:58:15 )
How do people not know this? Thats a pretty major thing to get wrong. Whats more baffling is where are people learning that we bombed Japan AFTER they surrendered? This isnt the first time I've heard someone blindly believe this.
2:55:00 I was one of those people! I had hired FFX-2 from Blockbuster (I had no idea about FFX) I played about 3 weeks worth of the game before i got FF10 as a present Even tho i should have known Yunie would survive, 10 year old me was blissfully ignorant (especially when they talk about Lenne)
Dude dont listen to these people throwing audio shade…. It was perfectly fine. Its just some audiophiles that cant help but be annoying. Im an average guy that just wanted to watch the video (99% of people) and didnt notice a single thing
Yeah. I had some major issues getting this uploaded. I realized it only after I recorded Everything. It disappoints me but I was ready to move on from it.
Great job on the video and a well done retrospective. This game is number 3 of my top 5 FF games. I know this is upload is old but you mught want to consider re-editing your video and fix your audio cause your voice over keeps cutting in and out and the mixing is weird and it is really distracting to me. Other than that, great video and I am going to watch all of your other FF retrospectives.
Yeah I noticed it after it was finished and I wasn't about to rerecord the whole thing. I suffer a hard drive crash on all of this to so I was really beat up over this video. I might one day upload a better version of when I do Final Fantasy X 2 and clump them together in one video.
FFX will always be my favourite. The first FF game I managed to complete, and the last one I could play because they abandoned turn-based fighting. It's getting harder and harder to find decent games with that format 😞
I think the game is under appreciated. Its always ranked in the middle of the pack. But to me its a top 3. It's one of the only stories that ever made me cry in ANY entertainment medium. And usually when I do its because I find something beautiful not because I'm sad for the characters. But in X... I cried for Tidus and Yuna not because I thought some profound idea or scene was beautiful. But because my heart broke for those two characters.
I truly enjoyed the video. That had to be a lot of work and you did a great job. One thing I feel I need to bring up is the comment that Japan had surrendered prior to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I may have misunderstood your comment and if I did just disregard. But my understanding after some research is that Hiroshima was bombed, and the US sent a communication to Emperor Hirohito explaining what had been done and asked for Japan’s surrender. Hirohito did not believe that such a weapon existed and disregarded reports of the devastation. Since the Emperor refused surrender, the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan’s surrender came after. That’s my understanding. Again if I misunderstood your comment disregard, and if you have different info please share. Great video. Thanks again.
Thank you I appreciate it. On the note of Nagasaki, I'll admit I went on my textbook knowledge for highschool when I made the comparison, so I didn't even know that was the case. Thanks for the edit much appreciated. I love history so this was some interesting information to learn thank you :)
Just want to point out that like so many other people still incorrectly believe Wakka is racist, he isn’t. He’s Xenophobic if there is to be a label. This point is proven later on when he doesn’t even recognise Rikku as an Al-Bhed because he doesn’t actually know their visual differences. He hates them not because he thinks they’re an inferior race or because of how they look, he does so because he believes their use of machina is what’s causing sin to persist due to indoctrination and also because he needs somebody to blame for his brothers death.
i played this game on every device i have ever had after 2013. I traded this game for kingdom hearts to a friend in 2002 because i beat kh, and since then i played it about 25 times fully through. Maxed my stats and killed pennance only once tho XD
its a grind fam, average 120 hrs maybe 80 if ur efficient, but rng can fuck with u in this game. without zanmato pennance is a 45min-1hr fight. good luck!@@GamingWithSpoons
I will listen to your story.* This... may be your last chance. * Unlike most other players, I don't want that story to omit everything involving blitzball.
I think Anima is just another consequence of the games theme, that truth and peace can only be achieved with the people you love. We see it over and over, Yunas refusal to sacrifice one of her friends for the final aeon, allows them to defeat sin together. Chappu says having your girl be safe is better, but goes off alone and ends up dead on a beach, protecting no one. Seymours mother seems aware that she made a mistake, that Seymours loneliness and feeling of never belonging was only made worse by her sacrifice. Anima simply gave him the tools to destroy, and thus isolate himself even further.
Please someone that makes these videos look into the real life origins of the caladbolg. It is based on an old Scottish folk tale and is without a doubt the story that this game is built on. I have NEVER seen a ffx lore video that has mentioned this and I have gotten little traction talking about it anywhere. Claiohm Solais, look up the story
Also wanted to say I truly appreciate vids like this. Cuz i always want to hear peoples thoughts on the games I've played but also cuz it helps me get through my work days. Keep it up.
Considering that FF7 and FF10 are connected. Part of me believes Yunalesca is secretly Jenova. If you look at Yunalesca she does have some similar likeness to Jenova at Nibelhiem. I know its a long shot, but it make the connection to both worlds more interesting
2:46:51 i didnt make this connetion but ff7 was about a woman who sacrificed her life to save the world and ffx is about one who didnt. i have no doubt this was intentional
Love FfX. But only thing I don't get is if tidus is a fayth/dream, then so is jecht? So why didn't they just stop the dream then jecht/sin wouldn't exist anymore....I must be missing something.
Basically it's because they were unable to. Yu Yevon was a summoner of Zanarkand. Dream Zanarkand along with Sin was a summon continuously being summoned by Yu Yevon. The Fayth remain summoned until they are defeated or the summoner dismisses them. Due to Yu Yevon finding a way to survive by summoning pure flies around him and using the outer layer of Sin as a shield, no one was able to defeat Yu Yevon permanently. This was partly due to Yu Yevon once the shield was destroyed killing the summoner after the shield was destroyed by possessing the Final Aeon and making it the next Sin by conjuring yet another outer shell around it. As for Dream Zanarkand Yu Yevon was continuously summoning Dream Zanarkand by continuously keeping all of the citizens of Zanarkand continuous dreaming or in a summoned state. The Fayth of the different summons were able to come and go in dream Zanarkand as they pleased but they were unable to stop the summoning until the Summoner continuously summoning Dream Zanarkand was defeated for good. Hope this kinda helps, it's not perfect in execution but a fun idea nonetheless imo. :)
@DeathCanHaveMeWhenItEarnsMe but if they fired missiles or something at the statues near zanarkand would that not make it impossible for him to summon?
@@asdfghjkllkjhgfdsa8725 I don't know maybe they tried and failed maybe they didn't both are highly possible since Sin destroyed everything after its conception maybe they could destroy Sin if they used Vegnagun against the Fayth in Zanarkand but we have no real way to measure this
I put x with tatics ogre in a story where you dont get treated as a child and it connects with you, i like dragon age or the new bg3 the story is who did they sleep with while these games give you a journey
**PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING** REGARDING THE SOUND ISSUES & Historical accuracy

Thank god thought today was the day listening to music loud was taking my hearing LMAO

@@kenansadhuvideosI kneel.
Why is NOBDOY talking about how hardcore Auron was? mortally wounded, climbing down mount Gagazet and then getting to Bevelle? that is badass.
I agree lol,
The best FF game ever made. It got me through one of the toughest times in my life. I absolutely adore it with every fiber of my being.
It is an incredible game. One of my favorite stories in gaming for sure. Thanks for sharing your story btw I love hearing how games can help people.
Same man
FFX is in my opinion the greatest game ever. I played it when it came out and still go back to it on various consoles. Emotional, engaging and the best combat system.
Can't argue with that :)
You and can definitely i agree on that! 🤝
never much cared for its combat but no game has that much heart in the 700+ games i have finished
It lives on my vita, heck, it's the whole reason I own a vita.....FFX wherever, whenever? Yes plz
Easily one of the best stories of any game ever, graphics nearly five years ahead of it's time and a leveling mechanic that's never been properly replicated since. If it's not the best game ever, it's certainly the best JRPG.
@slaymakerprime definitely agree such a great story. Graphics still holds up to this day.
This game has consumed the most hours out of me. Like literally hundreds. The sphere grid and Monster Arena keep me going.
There is so much to do in this game it's insane
I filled the entire sphere grid. I don’t remember how long it took me but I could kill the final boss with one blow from any character and I was so proud of myself. 😂
When I was a kid, my brother and I put in around 300 hours of work. Getting all the celestial weapons was a challenge, those 200 lightning dodges we're time consuming considering the amount of time it took me.
The amount of time spent in FFX appreciation is... Adequate.
Yeah modern Final Fantasy just misses the magic the older games had.
So many...
Right it's baffling
You know, no one talks about that opening monologue. That moment when Zanar talks about going back home and spending time with his dad and bonding over their love of Jecht and Blitzball.
Its not only well written, its well performed and believable. It really creates a feeling you're here in this city with its own people and history.
As openings go, FFX has one of the best opening levels because you do really feel like you're in another world
It's so well narrated, it's always stood out to me.
My only wish for that scene was that it didn't take place on some random highway.
Something I never really thought about was that Bahamut was Braska's first Aeon, so in a strange way an aspect of Yuna's father was watching over the boy she'd eventually meet and who would help her and the others destroy Sin for good, it's interesting how that just fell into place like that
Good point I never thought of that before either
Considering the fayth decided to use Jecht and Tidus to kill Sin, Yu Yevon, and end their own dream, I feel it's far more likely that Bahamut/the fayth decided to use Braska and his daughter for their own ends, rather than an aspect of Braska following Yuna.
Although, with the dead becoming a part of the fayth after death, it can be thought that Braska was 'following' her the entire journey, since he's a part of the fayth collective.
@@tricd0444 Yeah that could be true as well
Here to show love to every TH-camr that plays my favorite game 🥰 very well made and the audio quality is great you deserve more of the fandoms subs
Thank you. I appreciate the watch. :)
She very much is a tragic character, it's what makes Seymour such a good villain.
Tidus and Yuna have one of the BEST love stories I ever experienced
It's up there for sure. I really like Squall and Rinoa too.
i really hate most people’s criticism of the laughing scene, the full context of it being an awkward forced laugh is literally in the scene itself, of course within the context of the story it becomes a somewhat tragic scene, but using it as an example of bad voice acting comes across as them not having actually watched the scene themselves
Yup
Thanks for making this. It's clear to me that you put an extraordinary amount of work in this, the quality is high.
I've been a fan of this game for the past twenty years almost now. I learned alot in this video especially in the development history section. Fascinating. Thanks again!
You're very welcome I'm glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate the kind words.
One of the best games of all time. Replaying it after about 20 years (finally found an unscratched cd).
Thank you for this upload. The perfect fix inbetween playing.
I agree it's One of the best games ever made.
I finally made it to the end of the vid and man, how deep and detailed the talking about religion, politics, media, etc was amazing. Well thought out and researched. Thank you again for the vid.
No problem glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the kind words
Final Fantasy 10 aka the last time anyone was able to tell Nomura "no" I'm excited to watch this video
I laughed way to hard at this comment
Sometimes I think ffx needs a remake. Then I remind myself of how trash ff7 remake is and how square is not the same developer. Realizing that even if they made a remake they would ruin it so why bother.
I 100% agree
@asdfghjkllkjhgfdsa8725 trash is a bit extreme. But are they milking it too much? Absolutely
After FFX it went all downhill honestly. I tried to continue to support them but I only played 13 and 15 afterwards and it was disappointing. I also have to agree on the FF7 remake. I would have been ok with it if they didn’t change the combat system
2 min in and I can already tell this is gonna be great
One small note for Wakkas attack reels.
My favorite game of all times and i made it my life goal not to die until i get more Spira i need me that Yuna and Tidus as adults
This retrospect single handedly changed my mind about this game! Thanks for sharing this
Your welcome thank you for watching :)
I love this game so much this was the first final fantasy game i played when i was a kid
It's always going to be a special game to me.
I'm so happy u made this
I appreciate you watching it thank you.
My boy is 9 and i am waiting fir the day he us old enough to play this game
I'm playing this right now with my 10 and 7 year old. They beg me to play it every night because they are invested! Go ahead and start with them, and they'll fall in love with these games (we started all the way at FF1)
I hope to one day have kids of my own and play Final Fantasy with.
I love this ❤
no tv show or movie has ever made me cry, a few books and this game make me ball
4 and a half hour video about FFX? Just what I needed lol.
This game was ground breaking when it was released. The voice acting, the graphics, the way you get pulled into the story. This game was released at a perfect time in video game history.
Thank you for saying the voice acting was good, it hasn't aged the best but for a game entirely voice at the time it was absolutely ground breaking.
The song that plays after wakka pushes you off the cliff in besaid is my all time favorite song from a game. Its so good
It is a great song. It's one of my favorites too :)
Gaming With Spoons, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
Thank you
I just beat this game. Why cant they make video games like this anymore? I dont just mean turn based. I mean games with this level of storytelling and passion
This is a question that keeps me up at night. I miss those days too.
3:48:51 that canon ending for x-2 is only for those that bought the strategy guide to know how to actually get the 100% completion and not miss anything
Woah did not know about the song of the hymn being different for different aeons. Dammmm
I think I subconsciously knew, but it was something that just stood out to me on this playthrough.

FFX-2 isn't all bad in relation to how it affects FFX's ending.
Everything in the story of X-2 is thematically telling her to move forward--to push past the powerful yet fleeting love she had for Tidus:
-- Brother points out that he likes the version of Yuna that "looks forward" the best.
Kimahri look at future."
-- Paine overcomes her longing over the lost friendships she had with her Crimson Squad crew, and accepts the Gullwings as her new friends.
I couldn't agree more.
I struggle to finish this game when I go back to it, knowing what's coming as I progress

I thought about it, but I couldn't come up with a good one.
Forcing a laugh in hard times is all that scene means. And it’s fkn great!
100% this
FFX Is such a masterpiece. My favorite FF of ALL time. So glad to see analysis videos of it.
It's one of my favorites too :) thank you for watching.
There are some technical issues BUT This is amazing. Your voice is amazing. Thank you so much. Why does this video dont got more views.
I think the reason this game became and still is my favorite game is how Nomura actually got told no to things. I play it once a year I love the characters and world much.
The world building in this is so damn solid.
@@andreseh87 I know right!? Favorite game ever. Best characters, best world, best story, best summons, best everything. EXCEPT that fan-fiction level bullshit they added to the remaster. I couldn’t even finish that story it was soooooooo bad.
It was truly a timeless PS2 game at the time.
In this day and age, it seems difficult to come out anymore.
100% agreed
I know! Even the rest of your party look at Yuna and Tidus like they lost their minds. It was intentional.
It’s executed amazingly but it definitely felt different to Aerith
I do have one criticism of X which does stop me replying it now (I’ve beaten it multiple times in the past) and it’s only getting exp if your characters act.
Honestly it's one of my favorite scenes because when you understand it which I don't think it's hard to do it's perfect. The scene is so emotional.
1:13:40 “Ohhhhhhhh such shinking is VERYYY unbecoming fof a shummoner.”
Yeah Evrae was really hard l. And those celestial weapons lol never again.
@@GamingWithSpoons Last I checked my very first file of X, my Yuna dealt more damage with her attacks (both physical and magical) than anyone else, other than my aeons. I have a great strategy for Evrae now. SUBURST!!!!!!
You start Yuna on the path of black mage she makes Lulu obsolete lol.
@@GamingWithSpoons hence why I never bothered with Onion Knight. Hell, during my current run I barely use Kimahri. I've started him on Wakka's path. I'm still amazed that the sphere fiend in the woods gives you more AP than most other storyline bosses
Love the video! But there was a lot of audio issues.
Sigh.... yeah, I had recorded all of the when I realized it had the whole video edited. Its something I've since fixed. I appreciate the watch though.
A well made retrospective. I like how you focused on the story, with plenty of cutscenes
Thanks for the feedback. I really contemplated weather or not I should just summarize the story or use the cutscenes.
FFX is just perfect. Its in my name.
I couldn't agree more :)
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but FF10 never catched me like FF9 did. FF9 was truly emotional for me.
Bro I love ff9 very much. However the character work in 10 is better right?
Ff9 is my favorite
Ff10 had better characters
7,8,9,10 was the golden age for FF. They all had characters we cared about
I fucking love this game. I'm gonna replay it for the 100th time soon. I like to make all my characters way overpowered and then try to best the dark summons.
Nice I might try to beat the dark summons someday lol.
Going to start playing this again this week.
It's always fun to go back and replay Final Fantasy X it's a game I always learn something knew about every time I play it.
Anima is one of my favorite summons in the series.
Everyone complains about the laughing scene, but the dude in the background screaming over the intense moment with Rikku in Home is INFURIATING!! I swear hes just yelling "Im annoying, huh!?!" ( 1:58:15 )
😂 I've thought the same thing for years glad someone else hears I'm annoying huh.
Japan had not surrendered until well after the second bomb was dropped.
I've already made a correction in the pinned comment. Thank you for helping out though I do appreciate it.
How do people not know this? Thats a pretty major thing to get wrong. Whats more baffling is where are people learning that we bombed Japan AFTER they surrendered? This isnt the first time I've heard someone blindly believe this.

I was one of those people!
I had hired FFX-2 from Blockbuster (I had no idea about FFX) I played about 3 weeks worth of the game before i got FF10 as a present
Even tho i should have known Yunie would survive, 10 year old me was blissfully ignorant (especially when they talk about Lenne)

Yeah. I had some major issues getting this uploaded. I realized it only after I recorded Everything. It disappoints me but I was ready to move on from it.
@@GamingWithSpoons it was still a great video 😁
Thank you
Great job on the video and a well done retrospective.
The persona series might be worth checking out, there is also Sea of Stars of your looking for something more modern.
Also might I recommend Dragon Quest XI? It's one of the best turn based games of the modern era.
Is it me or does audio skip around 54 minutes in?
I think the game is under appreciated. Its always ranked in the middle of the pack. But to me its a top 3. It's one of the only stories that ever made me cry in ANY entertainment medium. And usually when I do its because I find something beautiful not because I'm sad for the characters. But in X... I cried for Tidus and Yuna not because I thought some profound idea or scene was beautiful. But because my heart broke for those two characters.
It's in my top five for sure
I don’t think so, i’ve seen people hold this to just as high regard as the og FF7
@@GamingWithSpoons Great Video. Can't wait for X-2. Never could bring myself to play it, and I would love to hear it. Thank you for all the hard work.
Precisely thank you for putting a name to it.
The only game I put more than 100 hours into until Destiny. The GOAT RPG.
i played this game on every device i have ever had after 2013. I traded this game for kingdom hearts to a friend in 2002 because i beat kh, and since then i played it about 25 times fully through. Maxed my stats and killed pennance only once tho XD
I need to fight penance one day lol
its a grind fam, average 120 hrs maybe 80 if ur efficient, but rng can fuck with u in this game. without zanmato pennance is a 45min-1hr fight. good luck!@@GamingWithSpoons
I will listen to your story.*
This... may be your last chance.
* Unlike most other players, I don't want that story to omit everything involving blitzball.

Nice
I think Anima is just another consequence of the games theme, that truth and peace can only be achieved with the people you love. We see it over and over, Yunas refusal to sacrifice one of her friends for the final aeon, allows them to defeat sin together. Chappu says having your girl be safe is better, but goes off alone and ends up dead on a beach, protecting no one.
Seymours mother seems aware that she made a mistake, that Seymours loneliness and feeling of never belonging was only made worse by her sacrifice. Anima simply gave him the tools to destroy, and thus isolate himself even further.
That's a good point
@@GamingWithSpoons thanks man, loved the video 🫡
Please someone that makes these videos look into the real life origins of the caladbolg. It is based on an old Scottish folk tale and is without a doubt the story that this game is built on. I have NEVER seen a ffx lore video that has mentioned this and I have gotten little traction talking about it anywhere. Claiohm Solais, look up the story
I had no idea. I'll look into it and that the very least add it to the pinned comment thanks for sharing :)
@@GamingWithSpoons no problem! Thank you for actually listening to me lol
Always willing to learn :)
@@GamingWithSpoons great video by the way. Love the gnostic connections
That 17 story sounded kinda dope
Definitely I would have loved to see more of it.
I just wanna say Mt. Gagazet theme is one of the best themes
One of the best pieces of music in the game and that is saying alot.
@GamingWithSpoons i remember keeping a save for mt gagazet just to hear the theme. (Before i ever had an mp3 player of some sort. Lol)
Also wanted to say I truly appreciate vids like this. Cuz i always want to hear peoples thoughts on the games I've played but also cuz it helps me get through my work days. Keep it up.
@Ryuoh thank you :)
I didn’t watch the video but I saw the thumbnail and I just want to chime in and say I think the two most successful FF games IMO will be FFX and FF7.
I think you're right. I don't see it ever hitting that same stride.
Considering that FF7 and FF10 are connected. Part of me believes Yunalesca is secretly Jenova. If you look at Yunalesca she does have some similar likeness to Jenova at Nibelhiem. I know its a long shot, but it make the connection to both worlds more interesting
That's an interesting theory.
Jenova - the eternal monster. I like it.
Honestly I hate the "twist" with the final aeon kills the summoner, it is stupid lol. Someone would have told tidus.
2:46:51 i didnt make this connetion but ff7 was about a woman who sacrificed her life to save the world and ffx is about one who didnt. i have no doubt this was intentional
I believe it was intentional.
short awnser Yevon was in control of both Sin and dream Zanarkand
until Yevon got sent his precious dream Zanarkand would forever be preserved
@DeathCanHaveMeWhenItEarnsMe but if they fired missiles or something at the statues near zanarkand would that not make it impossible for him to summon?
@@asdfghjkllkjhgfdsa8725 I don't know
maybe they tried and failed maybe they didn't
both are highly possible since Sin destroyed everything after its conception
maybe they could destroy Sin if they used Vegnagun against the Fayth in Zanarkand
but we have no real way to measure this
Ah, Final Onewaystreet X. :)
Great video
Thank you
nice video 👍 got my sub
Thanks 👍
I put x with tatics ogre in a story where you dont get treated as a child and it connects with you, i like dragon age or the new bg3 the story is who did they sleep with while these games give you a journey
I haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 yet but many of my coworkers have and they are enjoying the hell out of it.
Final Fantasy X-0: Braska/Jecht/Auron's story
Honestly I'd rather see that than a X 3
I feel like these retrospectives miss touching on the finer details a LOT
A 4 and a half hour long video and people like you are still gonna bitch. Very easy to criticize and yet you don’t say what the problem is.
