If you dont have a patreon you should consider it. I know I'm not alone when I say that the education you're supplying deserves some compensation. And your voice sounds a little like one of my favorite funny men. The late Norm Macdonald! Others teach similar lessons on you tube but you do the best job in my opinion. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this mini-series how to, really appreciate the insights and inspiration/motivation to get my ass into gear. I'm at the frustrated early stages, still in awe of how you guys make it look so effortless, but only practice on my end will fix it. Look after yourself sir, cheers 👍
MAX I did the screw in the paint can trick with metal roofing screws. My paint is still good two years later. You're a master my friend. Absolutely amazing. Thanks for saving me a fortune.
Needed this lil 3 parter as refreshing kick back into painting. Thank you! Hope you are doing well, please keep sharing your experience and tips, we need them!
I like hearing the talking, because you learn a ton from what you're saying. I took airbrushing all thru high-school (Thankyou Roger Scovell) but I've never airbrushed with 1shot. Thankyou for the video. I just subscribed.
Hello from southern Indiana.. Thanks for the lessons in this 3 part series. I am now subscribed and am looking forward to scrolling through your list of videos.
You are very good at what you do. The fact is, you know how to correct mistakes or paint quality concerns on the fly. Thank you for showing us the technique and not just a finished project.
The best way to clean old paint from an airbrush I found is carburettor cleaner works like a charm I use it in my Iwata Micron SB and never had any problems with it ever.
Thanks I enjoyed your tutorial. I’ve always painted my own signs for my shop and because they’re hand painted instead of vinyl they stand out. Now I’m starting to get requests and I need to learn more techniques.
I paint a lot of wood signs and some times, the wood grain (even though sanded) can cause the surface to be bumpy. If the finished piece is supposed to look rustic and have its natural wood appeal on it still, how do you get smooth letters over the wood grain texture?
Great video. Do you happen to have had any experience,be it good,or bad- with the aresol spray / candyflake paint RAT FINK brand, using it as your sign background coat by chance?
I do not. I've always tried to keep my involvement in spraying foundation paint to an absolute minimum. I think i just got lucky grabbing the spray paint that i did.
I know u been doing this a long time..but… if you use something like a wooden bbq skewer, laying it across the cup of ur spirits when u pour, the mineral spirits will run neatly down it, and won’t run down the cup, we use when pouring essential oils cuz they’re too expensive to spill a drop.
Hahahahahahahha!!!! I just realised that my question did sound like a bad joke!! I'm assuming that both can be used interchangeably?? Thanks again for always replying max...I'm trying to get advice from tbe right people! Look forward to your next video!!
@@maxkilbourne3142 great. i'm a tattooist too. They call me Sgrounch. i have my shop in south italy. phil jarvis made all the sing paintings in my shop (tiger rider tattoo). i love sign painting and pinstripping too.
Hey max! I really appreciate all of your insight. I’ve been painting signs on wood for a while and I always struggle with clean up. My letters will be done and look good but I’ll end up ruining the sign trying to retouch the background or fix a drop shadow. Is there any tips you have? I feel like the type of paints I’m using as my back drop may play a role - but they’re just standard spray paints from the hardware store.
I'm not all sure just what is happening there. Explain better, or even send a photo! You spray paint a piece of wood... you use one shot... what can go wrong??? Ruin the sign how? And why do you need to retouch the background? I am curious now!!!
@@maxkilbourne3142 typically from pencil marks that smudge when erased, or a drop of paint. However I did recently learn that the paint thinner can help me quickly wipe away fresh mistakes! Just scared of it smearing my lettering.
Excellent. I use a rag or paper towel wrapped tight around my fingertip and go as close to letter with my fingernail as I can.. but if I do touch the letter, I just touch it up with my still wet brush. Does that help.
It is a Paasche VL with a number 1 tip and needle in it. (it comes with a 1, 2, or 3 tip.) Great work horse airbrush for enamels, and it is as cheep as can be!
Thanks for the reply I really been wanting to do this I've hand painted with brushes before I know it takes patience I have a gut feeling I can accomplish that too. Thanks for the quick response sir.!
Again since you started with a stencil you could have done a white fill in, then airbrush ,then untape with no blue past the edges of the white . Would have been way ahead , work smarter ,not harder

Hey max, how can you tell a liner from a quill????
Liners are much longer and thinner!!! (but I think it is still designated as a "quill".)
Or, was I supposed to say: "I don't know Mick! How do you tell a liner from a quill???"...
