Traditional Bengali/Asamese Shim Bichi Daal | Broad Beans Seeds Curry|

  • Broad beans are normally known as Shim Bichi Daal in Bengali and Assamese. You can find a huge variety of recipe with broad beans. They are very hard and cultivated worldwide. It is healthy and tasty. Today I am here to show you a traditional curry recipe of Bengal and Assam with Shim Bichi Daal.

    Benefit
    Shim Bichi Daal or Broad beans are full of high protein and nutrients. It helps to cure high blood pressure, anaemia, and birth-defects. Broad beans contain high fibre which is good to reduce weight. It also boosts our immune system.
    Ingredients
    Dry Beans 150gm
    Potato (Diced) 100gm
    Mustard oil 2tsp
    Cumin seed 1tsp
    Cinnamon 2”
    Dry red chilli 2-3no
    Dry red chilli paste 2tsp
    Green chilli 5-6no
    Ginger (crushed) 2tbs
    Turmeric powder 2tsp
    Freshly chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
    Salt to taste
    Method
    First of all, take a bowl and soak the beans in a 1 cup of water. Keep them for at least 24 hours. Notice the foam over water. Drained the water and remove all the black skin from the beans.
    Now take a pan and heat some oil. Add cumin seed, cinnamon, and dry red chilli one by one and sauté for few seconds. You will get a nice & rich aroma. Add green chillies and sauté again for 1 minute. Add the cleaned beans and mix nicely. Cook them for about 5 minutes. At this stage, add the diced potato and fry them together. Sprinkle some salt as per your taste. Keep string them gently. Then, add some crushed ginger, some turmeric powder, and red chilli paste. Give them a nice mix and cook for 5 minutes in low flame.
    After the potato gets little brown, now add 2 cups of warm water into it. Mix all the ingredients properly. Cover the pan with a lid and cook again for about 15 minutes in low flame. Open the lid and allow to dry extra water. Check the desired consistency.
    Your traditional Shim Bichi Daal is ready to serve on your plate. Garnish with some chopped coriander leaves and enjoy with hot steamed rice.
