This tank was the vehicle I feared more than any other back in the day. Combination of really wide gun traverse angle, really steep shell arc and its ability to use ventilation made this thing the scariest artillery in the game.

I played in an O-I Experimental and a shell soared out of the sky and exploded next to me. What did I do? Simply drove up a hill a little bit, and there was nothing the artillery shooting at me could do. I then had a little fun, I deliberately drove my tank into the open and baited a shot, then ducked back into cover. Artillery could not even hit me once, and I was an O-I Experimental...
Totally balanced, fair, and skillful.....
And used nothing but premium ammo.

As an Artillery player, I can attest that 50% of the game is about luck these days. If the RNG decides that you're going to miss your shots, there's almost nothing you can do about it.
I've had games where I've had flush shots at the sides of stationary enemy tanks...and my shell flies right over them or 10m to the left or right, and explodes harmlessly.
It's gotten to the point where premium ammo with a larger splash radius is almost required to be a good artillery player these days.

How is it "pay to win"? I have never payed a cent to war gaming and my recent WN8 is over 2k. There are also many other players who have payed hundreds and hundreds of dollars to war gaming and have worse than average stats. Not sure were you are getting this idea from.

As someone who primarily plays a scouting role in lights and fast mediums, I'd actually like to see more arty videos.
The player aside with their supposedly Gold Arty shots. Anyone even noticed that there is a tier 5 Chaffee on their team randomly?
Chaffee's are scouts, they are made to be one shot by tier 10's it's just the nature of the Chaffee

+diaryanjo That is the old chaffee, it got into tier X games and I think never went below tier 7. It was the last of the end tier scouts, the others being the VK28.01 and the T-50-2.
2100 damage in one shot from the other side of the map while the enemy is unable to return fire. Fair and balanced if you ask me!
This is exactly the reason why most epic carry matches in T8+ for normal tanks are in those matches that have little or no artillery in them. With this kind of orbital laser fire going on while you are trying to play the game it's hard to be effective unless you want to spend the whole match glued to a piece of solid cover out of arty shot.

My best match in the Chaffee happened on this map, if I remember it was pre nerf, however I was stock. Took out damn near a whole Borsig while my platoon mates kept distracting him.

I remember when I was introducing my buddy to WoT, we platooned up in some low tier Light tanks (I forget which tanks). We were huddled together behind what we thought was cover, but the enemy artillery had relocated and took us both out with one shot. We were literally speechless for a few seconds, then started laughing maniacally. I imagine that's what the platoon @ 2:52 were doing.

Double bombardier medals are rare, but they do happen. I have around 5 of the medals and I got 2 of them in one battle in Malinovka hitting the hill fight in my GW Tiger P just after they were introduced.
This is my first arty replay on your channel. I heard Jingles talking about the most hated artillery in the game, the mighty Conqueror Orbital Laser Cannon, and I knew I had to see it. I only have two thoughts: "YOU DIRTY CLICKER" is one of them, and the other is 'Why does something so wrong feel so right!" XD

Although I do not play Artillery ( I lack the skills, patience, timing and map sense to do it well) I really appreciated this.
Nothing sucks in this game like tiresome whining from the ''Artillery is talentless clickers' reality deniers. You can do alot with Artillery which hs great variety. Small Artillery that has high ROF and can hit small moving targets but low damage vs the giants who frustrate the hell out of me with their slow aim, poor accuracy and long aim time.
I tried Artillery and suck at it. If there was no skills in using them then everyone would be good at it but few are. Maybe QB and MJ (ok not MJ) will come to realize the fact that Art makes WOT a better more exciting skilled game

***** How many Maus have you one shot? Usually takes more than one shot in this game to kill a tank. Unless you have a howitzer. Low alpha but high dpm tanks are going to have below 1 on their Shot/kill ratio.
Howitzer is mounted on the KV 2. And it's not kills to deaths. It's shots to kills.

jesse van vliet then you clearly have no clue how arty is played. Given the long aim times, you have to anticipate a lot, predict where targets will pop up and pre-aim. You have to be patient too, very patient, not wasting shots on things you're unlikely to damage or are low priority because your reload time means you only get a very few shots off in the entire game.Some arty have reloads measured in minutes for example, with aim times to match.

This is a real blast from the past. Low quality maps and vehicles, tier 6 scouts in tier 10 matches, the Waffeltraktor auf E100, arty that can kill other tanks in one shot....

I wonder how arty works in real life, how do they hit the target from very long distance i mean it's not like you have a screen and a line shows you where you will hit lol, exuse me i don't know about world war arty and i want to know :)
Wargaming has made the artillery basically the opposite of real artillery as real arty shoot at a high rate and small damage. And the way real ones aim is they use coordinates, really not sure though.
IIRC, you have a forward observer that spots the targets for the artillery team. Either the forward observer or the artillery team converts this into an amount of horizontal and vertical traverse, in addition to the size of charge loaded. Then you fire a shot, the forward observer relays the effect, and you repeat the process.
With modern artillery though, you can do something called something to the effect of Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (probably the wrong words there). What this means, is that you can put more than one round in the air at a time such that all the rounds will impact within about a second of each other. In principle, you are just firing from a very high angle, and dropping the barrel with each shot so that the subsequent shots have a shorter flight path. The latest German artillery piece and the Swedish Archer system are both capable of this.

+King Pervert Modern Artillery uses several different methods to get the shells on target, the majority of which involves (as someone mentioned) a forward observer. However, artillery is not typically used as an anti-tank weapon (Main Battle Tank's and Close Air Support fulfill role this much more effectively) but as an anti-infantry, anti-fortification, and area-denial system.
A typical call for fire would begin when a forward observer (usually part of the unit being engaged) calls the closest firebase or mobile artillery unit for support and gives a series of grid coordinates. The firebase or unit would then fire a ranging shot, with the observer calling corrections as needed, then, when the ranging shot hits the desired point, calls for "fire for effect". At which point the artillery battery (several individual pieces working together) fires a series of shots, called a "stonk" for some reason that I was never told, and continues to do so until everything is dead, the observer tells them to stop, they run out of ammunition, their barrels warp from the heat, or counter-battery kills them. Okay, so I exaggerated that last bit, but you get the idea.
Modern Artillery includes everything from the self-propelled MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) and 155mm Paladin systems, to the towed howitzers such as the 155mm field guns. They can fire a variety of shells for various purposes, including anti-fortification and anti-infantry rounds. The anti-infantry stuff is truly terrifying. Artillery doesnt work well against mobile systems such as armor because calculating the movement of the target while also accounting for time of flight of the incoming shell makes it very unlikely to hit something like a tank or APC unless you get lucky. Infantry on foot or in the open are, however, very vulnerable to beehive rounds and their equivalents, while trench and bunker networks can be saturated with HE, AP, and beehive rounds in a mix.
As mentioned above by someone else, by elevating the barrel of a single artillery piece as well as adjusting the propellant charge, you can adjust the time of flight (called "time on target") of the shell so that the single gun can fire multiple rounds that then impact effectively simultaneously on the target, thus achieving effective target saturation, then multiply this by however many guns you have in the battery or firebase. Keep in mind that, contrarty to what some may think, (at the upper end of the spectrum) a 155mm artillery shell is VERY destructive, and has incredible explosive or penetrating power.
A recent, popular (popular with me and my friends) movie that depicts accurate use of artillery and Close Air Support would be "We Were Soldiers", starring Mel Gibson, which you might like. I hope this helps you out.

That is a well played Artillery played by a very skilled arty player at its finest. One good arty can do so much for their team, and this is a case point of just that, he opened up an entire flank for his team by dropping just two shells that were well placed on weakened targets resulting in that flank losing 4 guns.

dunboob00 Do it, i played i think 150- 200 arty games (out of around 8k), but these days are long gone. I really dont like arty. If armored warfare was to implement it better, and if World of Warships will be in open beta soon, i might even abandon WOT for good. And that even though i play it since the closed beta in 2011.

I'm just stating my oppinion why I prefer WT and how much I hate clickers (just watched QB stream past broadcast and saw Jingles getting murdered by clickers few games in a row, even QB was clicked clicked to death for a ~1000 dmg there). So nice to play a tank game where you don't have to worry about some monkey sitting at the end of the map and clicking all your health with one hit.

Artillery is one of those vehicles that is very very situational. I play artillery albeit am not yet any good and if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time there really is nothing you can do about it. This I have to say was an exceptional game in the CGC.

Why do people hate artillery?

Just like Vladi said, they are just too stupid to get behind a fucking wall or rock. Only British and maybe French artillery can loop a shell over rocks, but not in every case. They also think that arties are some sort of orbital laser cannons that can hit you everywhere. The reality is, they have horrible accuracy and aiming time. But, if you are just standing in the middle of an open field, like arty haters usually do, there's no doubt that arty is going to cripple or kill you. And light tanks are nemesis of artillery.
I'm embarrased of humankind when somebody reports arty for killing him or cries out loud in chat, saying stuff like get cancer.
I hate them because I'm fighting tanks winning the battle then an arty shoot me in the turret and kills me nearly every game I play because he has to hide from everyone cause he can't fight up close
That's the whole point of arty you know...
Could this game be any more pay to win? I think not.
+ndyt Surprisingly, it is very friendly to players who wish to not spend money on it. Definitely a rare sight for a free game.

ndyt Do you play the game? Did you watch the video? The aim time and reload speed for this tank is horrendous! A light tank could flank them and take it out easily! He was just lucky though.

Yes, I play the game. Noobs are in low tier tanks that are one-shotted by high tier tanks. Crazy to have low tier play in the same game as high tier.

I don't really ever complain about artillery in WoT but this looks ridiculous. The impact that spg can have on a match whilst being exposed to no danger whatsoever is nuts. Enough ammo to kill the entire team, really fast aim time, huge cone of fire, massive damage, and can easily hit damn near anywhere on the map (over hills and mountains). Seems really OP.
HeavyD is the best artillery playe I've ever seen ^^ .

as an arty player. when i play my td's and lights and get shot by arty i recognize that i wasnt doing my best and arty did its job, so i feel that arty gets way worse thatn it deserves when it comes to hat.

+Gunslinger15 I feel you. Only times I ever get praise as an arty is when I'm last one alive and I shotgun everyone to the last enemy player.
One match in the m7 priest an enemy light tank came in and killed an ally leFH18b2 and came for me next but I rammed him to death and then got shot but didn't die and then got shot again by something else but bounced it and then an su-100 came around a corner but he fell over on his side when he grazed a corner and I was still reloading so I drove over and kept him on his side while another teammate killed him.

+Ryan Morran well if they were removed alot of players would quit the game bc's those 6 month of grinding for a tier 10 would be lost. Plus play time etc etc etc
