This might be the nicest Saab I've ever seen! When I was a kid, we used to have a 99 Combi Coupe that took us on long summer trips from Finland to southern Europe on many occasions. My dad started rallying with a V4 96 in the late 70s and the last Saab he rallied was a 96 two-stroke in the histroric events. I've never really been into Saabs myself, mainly because they're FWD but like I said this one is really nice!
Lovely video. I saw a 72 99LE (same as the first car I bought with my own money) on a lot in Cincinnati last weekend and now I want to stuff a Trionic 5 motor in it and make a rear drive car. That would be my 9th SAAB.
I had a saab 99e. c. maybe '70. front wheel drive. great visibility, traction and spacious. advanced design compared to any american car at any time except maybe the model t.
My latest saab i nr. 10 in 40 years, they last longer than other cars, or perhaps it´s love to the carmake who no longer exists.....:-) Have three in my garage - why? Its is loved by many but owned by a few.
I'm not a purist but usualy don't like "tuning" classic car, but that one is really nice ! It really looks japanese like old skyline without being too modern from outside. Just don't like the wheels, RS Watanabe would be better but, hey, that's my opinion. Love it :-)
I'm in the UK and have a Saab 99 from 1972 in racing green. Unfortunately the 'racing' in the colour description is the only sporting thing about it. Have put a later B series 2.0 engine in it, but it's my dream to one day make a green version of the car in this video.
Living in Sweden probably presents you with a lot of used cars to turn into whatever you want, here in Germany things are a little different; I guess you'd get slaughtered by the community of purist Saabisti when you perform irreversible works like the rallye-fenders and such. Still: A very good looking (and sounding) 99-er ! I once worked at a freelancer's garage who specialized in Saab and fell in love with a 99 GL of a lady among his customers. Sadly, before I got the chance to ask her whether she was going to sell it to me, I was informed that she had a crash in it - well, the car was scrap metal, but she made it out in one piece without any bumps and bruises !

There have been rwd drivetrain conversions available for at least the 900 and the 9-3 for rallycross for 20 years or more. It's a Saab, mate. ;)
