  • First of all, this video is far away from perfect.... More watt isnt better, but in some cases it is. And in this case more watt is more pressure. I am not very professional.
    Personally I love the z-906.
    In this video, I compare the 2 of the most powerful 5.1 surround pc speakers from logitech.
    The winner is the Z-5500, but watch the video to figure out why!;)

      when I listen to the song tears from max payne 3 with the logitech z5500 it sounds like booming sound and when I listen to tears with the SN2000 subwoofer there is no booming sound this means the logitech z5500 makes the music have a sound that is not natural to have so this means the logitech z5500 doesn't have better bass

    • @workingballer

      It's really hard to compare those two speakers (as i own both) without proper sound cards. Stock sound cards can't really give you any depth of it's full capabilities. If you can compare two with a semi-decent graphics card, then you can really justify what you think is better overall. In my experience now, the Z5500 THUMPS way better than the Z906. The Z5500 shakes your body, the Z906 shakes itself? What I'm saying is that the Z5500 is RAW power!

    I’ve had the Z5500 since about 2011 and let me just say they have been amazing from day 1. In the past year the light up feature on the little screen of the main unit which displays volume has died… THATS IT. They sound just as good as day 1. I’ve used them for gaming and movies. Given they’re discontinued I bought a Z906 for the upstairs living room. Hopefully it’s at least somewhat comparable.

    I'm a very long time user of Z5500 -- I bought my set right after they were released... and still use them right now.
    Let me tell you of the cons.
    1) The transistors enter a "fade" state where they don't deliver consistent performance at every level within a couple of years. The end result is that voice gets muddy sounding and volume has a fluctuating quality that is fairly mild in my case-- nothing that you shouldn't expect with any other electronic item.
    2) The bass is supremely muddy at computer listening levels. If you can't put the bass up to at least the 3 level, you are getting some nasty "vwhoop" sounds as your main bass. If you can get to 3 bars in levels, you can start to see something, but it can get overwhelming... for me. Some things don't strive for balance and your usage needs may vary.
    I personally need a variance in levels, that I can control, and the Z-5500's have always given me that. They were one of my best purchases throughout life. I'm clearly here because I want to find something new that functions... maybe the z960's can try, but they don't have that bass potential of my old setup -- then again, maybe they put that power to better use.

    I've had my Z5500 since it first came on the market. I use it for music and movies. I like that you can adjust the effects on each input. Since my computer has an audiophile quality optical output, It is connected to the optical input on the Z5500. Since my UHD 3D blue-ray player also has an optical out, I found a converter to adapt it to the digital coaxial input on the Z5500. I get great surround sound on both. I have an audiophile friend that was a salesman in a high end audio/video store who was very impressed with the clarity and the very wide frequency range of the system.

  • @nilozero
    @nilozero 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I bought the Z906 today for my racing simulator and find it good for the intimate area a sim cabinet avails. I'm an audio engineer and was slightly disappointed that the amp configuration doesn't allow independent volume to the rears or FL/FR as I'll now have to weld distance specific brackets to keep the "sweet spot". The manual is atrociously worded and the box proclaims 1000W yet it's 500W RMS so be aware of that as it is likely PMPO and initially misleading without the abbreviation. The build quality of the sattelites are good and provide a decent and untrammelled sound at moderate to high and I'd not be pushing them for my purpose yet I'd doubt these would be useful beyond a bedroom/PC and certainly don't expect it to fill any but the smallest rooms. My audio analytics gave solid results for a low budget 5.1 though (It was $297AU) with only the sub needing to be absolutely perfect or it is distinctly muddy or ineffective/boring. The build is not to the satellite standard and I'd wager the issues are in the internal layout and plastics. When dialled in by a good ear or an SPL though it all sounds detailed and surprisingly "exciting" for this level of audio. No HDMI pass-through and limited/no adjustments to distancing/delay et al is not unexpected at this range for now and overall, I'd rate it highly if you choose the correct environment and purpose. *I use Toslink and DTS

    A few friends of mine have the z5500. The thing with that system is that it's a bit unbalanced between the sub and the satellites. As you can see, for the z906 Logitech chose to tame the sub a bit and push the satellites. This is why I opted for the z906 about 7 years ago and I'm still happy with my decision. For my ear it's better balanced all around. Even one of my friends owning the z5500 agreed on this when we compared them. Good video and comparison though.

    • @demonpride1975
      @demonpride1975 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't see the point to that at all, sure the sub is big on the 5500, but you can control the bass level. plus your satellites are supposed to have a lower watt rating. as they deal with mid range and highs, where as the bass is supposed to be heavy thumping sound.

    • @whatismylife3546
      @whatismylife3546 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Anime4 Mii It actually does depend on those things. Maybe not the box, but the room soze definitely matters. You can have a small room where 100 watts will be way too much, but 20-50 watts will be perfect. On the other hand, you can have 20 watts in a large room and it'll be too quiet because there's too much space for the sound waves to move.

    • @whatismylife3546
      @whatismylife3546 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anime4 Mii Actually, that's not what it's for. The wattage is the power going to the speaker. That's why you pair the RMS rating to the power the amp puts out. The overall resonance is determined by how much sound the box lets the speakers produce.

    • @whatismylife3546
      @whatismylife3546 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anime4 Mii And sound quality doesn't change based on how many watts you put into it. That's just how much punch you'll get out of your woofer. If you have shotty speakers, they'll sound shitty even if they're hooked up to a 3 watt amplifier. And "distortion" occurs when an amplifier clips. That means that the amp is attempting to put out more power than it was designed to.

But for those who want to do more filming, the Z5500 is probably better because it has more bass pressure. Of course, a lot depends on the room acoustics. If you have any real speakers, do yourself a favor and buy a dedicated sound card. I've always connected these to at least a Sound Blaster Audigy as long as I can remember.

    I have both and generally my opinion is: z906 is better for movies, z5500 for music and both excel with video games. Although z906's sub has lower wattage, it still delivers impressive bass, goes low enough to put out a constant earthquake-like rumble and sounds tighter than z5500. z5500 is great with movies too, btw, but I prefer the tightness that z906 packs in its bass. z5500 is great for music and goes really LOUD. Can seriously shake your entire house and delivers the lowest of the lows a bit better than z906. Anyway, love 'em both for their price.
    Keep up with your videos, and a quick tip for you: it's much easier and sounds smoother to say fifty-five-hundred rather than five-thousand-five-hundred, mate ;)

    • @Hobidee
      @Hobidee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      z906 is definitely the closest 5.1 setup to z5500 in the market. If you've liked z5500, I don't think z906 would disappoint you, of course depending on your personal preferences. If you only blast music with 100 % max volume, then z906 won't excel but if you watch movies or play games with it, you'll love it and I'd even go on to say it's better for movies than z5500. And it's okay for music too, the bass' max is probably between 70-80 per cent of z5500 sub's max SPL output.

    Thanks for doing this vid 6+ years ago. I will say that I too have both the Z5500 and Z906 and the Z5500 is about 50% more powerful than the Z906. When it comes to Music and Movies, again, the Z5500 is far better. Too bad they discontinued making the Z5500 speakers back in 2011 and can only get the Z906. But for an all in one system that you can just plug in your optical cable into your PC or TV there is nothing better than Z5500 and the Z906; even after all these years, they are still the king!

      @@tibby1239not true. I own both systems and I can clearly tell you right now, that the Z5500 is much deeper in its base response than the Z906. now if you’re looking for Software or a sound enhancer device, I would try using the SoundForge app (for MacOS first). You can customize the EQ app to enhance the sound slightly better. The better way to go would be to purchase a DAC. The one that I would suggest would be the SoundBlaster X4. That to me is by far one of the best sound enhancement devices to use with the speaker set up and you can tweak in customize a Sound using the SoundBlaster X4 app (for MacOS), to make customized enhancements. That’s the best and I can tell you. I also if you are interested in finding a set of Z5500 speakers, let me know, as I have an extra set that I am willing to part with. Just let me know if you’re interested. Thank you.

However the control panel is harder to control via remote because i cant see on the screen and the wall mounts are terrible... (I dissasembled the speakers to add custom wall mounts and the woofer although powerful is a dust magnet. To remove the woofer to clean it you have to remove the grill which is a nigbtmare to remove, straighten and put back... If I compare the subwoofers of S750 and Z5500 there are couple differences. Z5500 (188W 10") is larger and has more powerful bass but the bass sound quality and clarity of S750 (210W 8") is superior to Z5500.

    I use Z906 for almost two years and that woofer can shake whole yard and hood without problem.
    Ofc, you need audio enhancer like DFX. But I have really bad audio card on MBO.
    And you didn't say that Z5500 is EOL
