"We played Homeworld One like over a year ago." As in, four years ago. When the Remastered Collection was released. Good to be back in command of the fleets, sir.
One interesting change from homeworld 1 to homeworld 2 is that you build squadrons instead of individual ships. Honestly, it cannot be understated how much better it makes producing small craft.
Fuuk, now I have to re-watch the whole damn Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and then the 1st Homeworld run from you, just to see this in chronological order with fresh memories. You ruined my week/made it amazing at the same time. I have no idea how you do it Cap. Love you, but sit on a Lego piece in your Captain's chair lol
Normal strategy games give you easy missions first, so you can get used to the controls and train. Homeworld hands over a hot mess to you from the very beginning. Love it!
Warning! Homeworld 2 is MASSIVELY overturned in remastered. The larger your fleet the more targets you'll have to face, up to points where you might have to go against 4-5 battlecruisers. (More than you can even build yourself) It's good to not build to your cap when you know you'll be able to finish the mission with what you have. You can always build up at the start of the next mission to keep what spawns in under control!
Hmm that narrator could have read me the phonebook and I would relish every part of it. Rest in Peace, Campbell Lane, Homeworld won't be the same without you.
it's really weird cause got the game from Epic store, played through the middle of 1st Campaign, then stoped for a while to check some videos and get some tips, to see how ppl play and so on. and i wached your full series on the 1st campaign( from 8 years ago), starting this 2d just right now, and for the 1st time it's like i enjoy watching someone play almost as much as playing myself. great series.
and so far HM2 seems way more "clean" sort of than HM1, i'm at (watching) EP2, more ship variety alrdy at 2d mission, more challenge, and well... more fun
The big ship to watch positioning on is the Vagyr Battlecruiser. It has the "trinity canon" up front, only able to be fired from the bow. It is a very powerful plasma weapon that fires (you guessed it) three shots. It can do massive damage, so coming from an angle that denies it a shot makes a big difference. In a straight up match between Higaran and Vagyr battlecruisers, the Vagyr will win every time without support or positioning advantage.
Homeworld is the one of the best RTS game period. But what really push it over the top was the story and the soundtrack. Side note you can't tell me the people who made the new BSG show didn't take their choice of music from the Homeworld game.
FINALLY! I have been waiting so long for you to do a HW2RM play through! Your play through of HW1RM is what led me to find out about the franchise in the first place years ago and get into it like last year or something... Never looked back. Also, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST NEVER HAVE ANYTHING ON NEUTRAL, OR THEY WILL NOT ATTACK UNLESS ORDERED TO.
Instantly subscribed and clicked notifications. This was the game that got me really into gaming and showed me the awe and majesty they could conjure. Can’t wait for the full thing.
just did a play thru myself, a helpful tip, they did some Ai tweaking a year or two ago, when it figures out how to auto-balance for the next mission it appears that it just counts the number of ships from fighters to capital ships. So if you have a ton of fighters and heavier ships at the end of a mission when you jump into the next mission it could make that mission unplayable. but if all you have is a lot of frigates and capitol ships its still difficult, but do able. Also i did the entire campaign with only 2 carriers, but your going to need 3 for the start of the final mission.
You mentioned the way that your fleet carries over between missions. On my first play through I did something that I don't think the game designers expected, and it made my life far easier. The first time a Vagyr Destroyer showed up (several missions before you can make one of your own), I took it over using my Marine Frigates. So, I rolled into the next missions with a ship one class larger than was expected.
Homeworld 1 original, you had to collect the resources yourself after a mission, but had time to rebuild your fleet before jumping HW2 original automatically collects all resources on the map for you and jumps as soon as the mission finishes. in the remastered version of HW1 they made it so you automatically collect all nearby resources when you dock your ships, although what is meant by nearby I have no idea. I learnt about HW3 watching your economy survival series, now I am on the final mission of HW1, HW is the best space RTS series yet to exist.
Omg, so much yes! After seeing the Homeworld 3 Trailer i started playing the series with Deserts of Kharak, i'm now through that and Homeworld 1 and currently playing Homeworld Emergency (former Cataclysm). The nostalgia and hype is real. Cockpit view is only available in Homeworld Emergency sadly.
Seriously I can not wait for more of this, HM was one of my old favorites way back when it launched so this is pretty great. I have the redux and beat it many times so Shack I shall be playing along side you, safe travels Captain
Hiigara... our home. This has to be my favourite fortnight of my life. I had my birthday, HW3 was announced, i finished Deserts of Kharak and Shack finally plays Homeworld 2.
Finally shack ever since...the first homeworld you have graced us also shack Anyone got a scavenger ship? (Oh we can take their capital ship with only 6 GREAT!)
While playing the first game hearing Karan say “No one’s left… Everything’s gone… Kharak is burning…” while Adagio for Strings played in the background broke my soul and gave me goosebumps,
Hey shack, love that your finally getting into Homeworld 2 remastered, love it. Also, a bit of a fact, those heavy missile frigates, the bay you saw on the bottom is actually in fact their anti-ship missile bay, the one on the top of Vayger frigates are to assist with their ability to take out corvettes and fighters, mostly the former though or as a simple backup weapon. Some things are a bit more obscure like that but just a little thing is all that makes it still pretty good.
There is another RTS Space Game kinda like this one but offers a little more detail as far as planet colonizing, building fleets, defending your sector's from attackers & building mining stations, etc. It's called Haegemonia: Legions of Iron, a really well made game of it's time (2002), there's two story lines that you can chose from, Earth or Mars but, they tie into each other sooner or later for one common goal and Graphics as well as the detail are pretty good. I've played it allot back in the day and I'm letting you know it's worth a shot. Any ways lol, glad to see you Shack back in classic game such as Homeworld 2 and can't wait to see whats in store. As always keep up the amazing work, this cup of coffee is on me :).
I remembered zooming in to see bombers do runs on enemy carriers or just fly along the entire armada just as they were about to engage. It was beautiful
I was sitting here thinking that the narrator's voice was SUPER familiar. Then I looked it up. He was also the opening narrator for every episode of the Gundam Wing dub.
I remember yelling at my computer as if I was there commanding the fleet! When a little something like this: "Interceptor squadron 1, take down those bombers! Bomber squadron 3, regroup with fighter squadron 2 and take down that corvette! ... Sh*t! They just jumped in two Battlecruiser! All forces, retreat back to the mothership! We're getting out of here!"
These cutscenes still give me goosebumps. Gearbox did damned well on these remasters. Not perfect but about as close as gearbox ever get to it. They always work best when working on IP they didn’t create. Half life, homeworld,
That was pretty well done. It's been a year or so since I played through, but I think this mission is exactly as shown: worrying about the transports, but very little risk of loss. A little nerve-wracking with the ADD bouncing between points of interest, but you are showcasing the game which leads to a bit of bouncing around.
Cataclysm is amazing, replaying it at the moment before jumping into a Homeworld 2 rem. replay. Although not remastered, it still holds up surprisingly well i think, and the dark atmosphere and story in Cata is still my personal favourite out of the HW games.
Actually not. HW2 us "Adaptive Difficulty" where, unlike HW1 where type and numbers of enemies was set, there game generates enemy ships according to number of ships your fleet have. People even exploited it to breeze through final mission, when they scuttled everything they have and thus enemy started with small fleet.
@@Toskin Not true ! That generating enemies according to your numbers made the final battle hugely unfair for the player because of the first minute - immediate attack of your mothership ignoring everything else, while 1/2 of your force is 40 or so km away out in the left field. I had to scuttle 1/2 of my fleet (4/5 of my ion's) just to make the battle fair. Only because you can't kill 46 ion's, 24 assault's, 4 destroyers, 2 missile destroyers, 1 heavy cruiser, about 24 bombers and 24 heavy corvettes in that about 90 -120 seconds it takes them to fly(ignoring everything else) to your MS and blow it up. You start with everything docked and spread out for 70 km to the left. So basically you must fight that battle with no more than 30% advantage in units composition(because 1/2 of your forces don't have time to reach the battlefield) vs enemy that does not care to fight you, just rush to blow the MS and finish it before the 2 min mark. The problem is we have no means to impede them in any way from reaching the MS fast. It would be fun, if you could grab the asteroid from the previous battle and hurl it back to them in this one. :D Just 20-30 sec delay would have been enough.
@@SliderHarDCorE this is why salvage ships are the best. you actually CAN stop that enemy fleet from getting to you, and capture the entire fleet while you are at it.
@@darkfalcon59925 I had 16 of them (how do you think I collected 160+ ions in my fleet) but they are enough to stop only the Heavy Cr and maybe 2 destroyers if none of them dies in the process. Maneuvering and traveling 40km+ under 2 min if impossible for HC, D, MD and Ion's.
@@SliderHarDCorE yeah, its a hell of a rough fight. it has been many years since i played the game, but I seem to remember using (and losing) many salvagers to delay and break apart the enemy fleet. You dont necessarily need to actually capture the enemy ships, just getting even one salvager on them (in the old version of the game at least) will disrupt them and prevent them from moving, though not necessarily from firing. It is possible im thinking of one of the other homeworld games, as its been a long time and they all kind of blend together at this point.
Hey Captain Shack, did you ever try Nexus: The Jupiter Incident? That is another cool classic space strategy game with 3 dimensional movement, but more tactical, focusing on few ships instead of the massive fleets of Homeworld.

I want to see Homeworld inspired builds from Space Engineers showcased. Also, you can target engines of capital ships with everything including bombers. Homeworld was my favourite game besides the Master of Orion series.
Hi shack finally you're playing a Homeworld 2 let's play I've been watching you playing homeworld 1 and homeworld deserts of kharak over and over I'm very happy you're playing Homeworld again it's been a long time I'm waiting for this moment😄😄😄😄
Breezed through this back in the day because I captured a battleship early on and then put shield drones around it for the rest of the game. Think it survived all the way till the last mission.
I can still remember the frustration of going through the stealth mission over and over again and continuing to fail. The plot of this game though is great.
@CaptainShack: The derelicts you see everywhere are a holdover from the old "Dust Wars" concepts that were the early design concepts for HW2. Dust Wars was going to be insane, you should look it up if you are interested!
Hopefully HomeWorld3 will have some modern tools for casting. Especially PvP E-Sports Casting. Could be BIG! But only if it is not just a Kickstarter SCAM. Sadly, the Kickstarter looks very sketchy with a one dollar goal which screams SCAM to me.
I’m 19. I remember finding HoneWorld (1) on disc with my dads pc back when I was 7-8. And duuuuude I loved the game even though I had no clues what was happening.
Funny that you describes the 3D RTS part at 17:25 because this game doesn't really takes advantages of the 3D part. The 2 first (Homeworld 1 & Cataclysm) uses it quite well, but in Homeworld 2 everything is on the same plan. The recovery of the Oracle might be the only time we uses it, but compares it to the Turanic Raiders transport who destroyed the Khar-Selim, or the attack on the ghost ship, the Nova station or even the hyperspace blocker surrounded by ion frigates, just on Homeworld 1.
Sierra - Empire Earth series Relic - Dawn of War 1 & 2, Company of Heroes 1 & 2 Ensemble Studios - Age of Empires Series, Age of Mythology & Exp We were spoilt as 90s kids, Age of empire 2 was the first game i ever played that wasn't on a Gameboy (Pocket at the time)
I have Homeworld 1, played a few missions, but ultimately I always go back to playing space engineers. I have no intention of getting Homeworld 2 yet until I play more of Homeworld one but thanks for this video they're very similar.

Thats because Campbell Lane, the voice actor for the narrator and the Bentusi in Homeworld, did the english narration for Gundam Wing.

This game has a special place in my heart
Hello. Glad you are playing Homeworld 2. I as lalacsulalac on Twitch had been nagging you. Keep it up. They should make a book series on Homeworld.
Yeeess more homeworld you got me into the game loving it cant wait to watch all of this
never got the second one
that missile boat looks like a Kol battleship from Sins
everytime i think of captain shack and homeworld im always reminded of the gul betrayal, was such a great vid, you guys should do more vids together again
I’ll be honest, I like the model designs so far but overall I really think that the first games model designs are much more cooler to play with.
I want to see Homeworld inspired builds from Space Engineers showcased. Also, you can target engines of capital ships with everything including bombers. Homeworld was my favourite game besides the Master of Orion series.
Shack playing Homeworld! Yes! So much yes!
HE'S FINALLY DONE IT THE MAD LAD HAS DONE IT!!!
shacks playing something other than star wars holy shit
Hi shack finally you're playing a Homeworld 2 let's play I've been watching you playing homeworld 1 and homeworld deserts of kharak over and over I'm very happy you're playing Homeworld again it's been a long time I'm waiting for this moment😄😄😄😄
ITS BOUT DAMN TIME YOU PLAYED HIMEWORLD 2!
Breezed through this back in the day because I captured a battleship early on and then put shield drones around it for the rest of the game. Think it survived all the way till the last mission.
LETS GET IT!!! TAKE US HOME CAP
I have been waiting for this playthrough for years now
Just finished my 5th play through! Gotta love gunships and interceptors in those first couple levels.
I've played but never managed to finish HW2 so far.
DAMN YOU! now i'm gonna spend the next 3 days replaying Homeworld remastered!!!
I’m 19. I remember finding HoneWorld (1) on disc with my dads pc back when I was 7-8. And duuuuude I loved the game even though I had no clues what was happening.
YESSSS YES YES YES YES! SHACK YES! THANK YOU!!!
I missed this game happy to see you playing it again.
You Start playing this right after I GET IT ON STEAM!!! Captain... you are awsome
God, I loved the salvage corvettes. that was all I built and just constantly stole enemy ships. I was a space magpie.
Always have and always will love homeworld
The time has come for the series talked about for over a year it is finally here
Lovely to see you pick up HW2 again👍
Sierra - Empire Earth series
Relic - Dawn of War 1 & 2, Company of Heroes 1 & 2
Ensemble Studios - Age of Empires Series, Age of Mythology & Exp
We were spoilt as 90s kids, Age of empire 2 was the first game i ever played that wasn't on a Gameboy (Pocket at the time)
I have Homeworld 1, played a few missions, but ultimately I always go back to playing space engineers. I have no intention of getting Homeworld 2 yet until I play more of Homeworld one but thanks for this video they're very similar.
