A better way to do that ducting would have been to run the round tube down from the roof through the cabinet before putting on the roof vent, so that it would have been one continuous piece, basically.
@evictioncarpentry2628 why is putting it through the roof improper? I understand your preference is to put it through the wall but you didn't explain what the advantages are aside from saved time. Is there a safety issue? Is it a code issue? The comment you're responding to was talking about how to achieve a single length of ducting assuming he did it through the roof like he did.
Mike, great video as always. If I were you, I'd do one thing a bit differently. You could get a heat resistant vent pipe tape, which is also called aluminum tape. Your duck tape will not be able to stand the heat coming from your soup, steak, etc and it will get super greasy and eventually fail.
you should've brought the duct tubes down from the attic to the microwave instead of trying to do it from the microwave up it would've probably been easier and means you wouldn't have had to cut it up
Hopefully you put a thick bead of caulk under the roof cap flashing to further prevent water from seeping underneath on the top, left, and right sides in a “U” shape. Then you’d also want to wrap some insulation if in a colder area to prevent condensation from the outside and attic elements with some foil tapping for tight air sealing 🙏
I work HVAC and looks like a good job. The only difference really that we would do is use sheet metal screws to connect the duct and then foil tape over that…. But job well done
Great job for a first timer! Only thing I see is the tape you're using is not designed for ducts. You need to replace it with aluminum duct tape. What you have is duck tape which is not heat or age proof.
Should use Ice and water shield to seal around the flashing on the roof vent. That should prevent water leaking through the roof. Putting caulking around the corners of the flashing will allow leaks as soon as the caulking wears out.
Are there fluesnugs available for the top of the cabinet instead of sealing everything with tape? Every video I watch they don't seal up the remaining top of the pipe on the inside of the cabinet. I always have spiders and insects crawling in through there.
I like how you used rigid pipe. Its required by code on kitchen vents. Don't use gorilla tape. Use foil tape. Provides a better seal from air leakage. Won't peel off over time. All Microwaves are from China but I'd rather have an American/European/Korean brand microwave compared to a "no name generic Lowes special". If you have the option to vent outside, I'd stick with a range hood. The suction on microwaves suck.
Could have left the venting rectangular until you were out of the cabinet. Leave more room, then switch to round above it where it’s hidden. I’m stealing the idea of placing a crimped duct seem just a ~6” above the microwave so that the top of the duct can stay ridge if I need to swap out microwaves again. I’m learning I never want to go up in my attic again!
I wanted to watch this again a few days later as I struggled with some details related to my specific install and got some more answers. That nice GAF vent is available at Home Depot SKU # 931439 I had gotten the Menards type which is able to receive 3.25x10 or up to 7” round ducting. What I noticed is that leaves a huge gap between the pipe and roof cap, that I’m just not sure if I am comfortable with. So back to the store! Also very nice show of your skill on the drywall. That is most impressive!
Belle sortie !! Avant de me coucher souvent jme prépare 2 ptit tas pour repartir le feu vite la nuit comme ca j’dors un bon 2-3h au lieu de me lever au heure lol 😅 sinon le choix du bois aide !
Should have used foil tape duct tape rots away over time ans foe the roof vent there is a sealing flang for 4,5,6 inch duct connections so you will have no wood rot from all the condensation buildup
I’m redoing mine. I used a 4” insulated flex duct but it’s just as loud on low as it is on high. I’m wondering about others set ups and experiences… Do those levels sound different? If so my problem might be with the smaller flow area
All that work to install full exhaust but only giving range half the capture coverage needed to be effective? Just get a legit vent hood and shift a different cabinet upwards and do microwave elsewhere
Cardinal sin! You used DUCT tape rather than the aluminum metal ducting tape. DUCT tape is a misleading name as it's not actually intended to be used for ducts. Its adhesive doesn't hold up over time. Definitely not 1-800-SUPERPRO!
Just wanted to add my 2¢. When I see these venta-hood microwaves installed flush with the bottom of the upper cabinets, it always irritates me. Families use tall, large pots to cook large meals so, just a venta-hood allows enough height to stir tall pots on back burners. The venta-hood microwave installed like this does not. I would much prefer the cabinet above the microwave be mounted closer to the ceiling to allow stirring of a large back burner pot. I would've installed that cabinet higher than the others. Just my preference.
Lmao. You just did 10x the amount of work and made a hole in your roof for no reason. Thats an exterior wall. You should have just cut the wall open and it would run straight through the back, they make a vent that connects right into it. Between you and mr buildit i have to just check in to see what you guys F up 😂

@@clayplemons651 Yeah but the problem is they don't acknowledge they do things the wrong way, then people go and try to copy what they do. Foil tape should have been used to seal the ducts.
It's not circulating air in the house. It's a vent. So, it's not that big of a deal.
@@californiacritic9779 only if you don't cook anything hot.
Foil tape will last longer
Yea foil tape instead of duct tape. That duct tape will loosen up after time
It also looks better aesthetically, and prevents fires. I made the same mistake.
Foil tape and don’t forget to tape the long seam where the duct snapped together.
A better way to do that ducting would have been to run the round tube down from the roof through the cabinet before putting on the roof vent, so that it would have been one continuous piece, basically.
No, the proper way would have been straight out the back through the wall with zero ducting required. Lol
@@evictioncarpentry2628 on mine the stove isn’t on an outside wall. But with his it is.

Yes, the duct tape probably won't last a year
Your teaching style is such a good vibe. Good work (:
Happy New Year Everybody!!
Happy New Year @ModernBuilds
I’ve bem a subscriber for years and for the last 2 months I’ve been unsubscribed form the channel at least 3 times😢
I love the 3 sided box on top of the cabinet. Great job
love the drywall folding tip - I'm going to use that someday
Instead of using so much blue tape, they make masking film and masking paper, for those exact tasks.... Love the videos
or newspaper! :)
Cardboard is the best
you should've brought the duct tubes down from the attic to the microwave instead of trying to do it from the microwave up it would've probably been easier and means you wouldn't have had to cut it up
There wasn't room in the attic for that length of tube, but if he did it from the roof before adding the roof vent hood it would have worked.
Man I swear everything you do comes out so clean. Great job man, gives me the courage to duct our microwave!
Fast and to the point, shows just about everything. Excellent.
you should have put the ducting through the roof that way you get only one seam

Best to use Class 1 foil tape. Flame spread rated, and smoke leaks.

10:58 ya you do. You could could have lined up this part prior to installing the roof cap.
So that other vent is just going to pull air from the attic to the microwave when its on aint it?
such a satisfying video to enjoy 😍
I think it's wild mist homes stove vent don't actually vent, just circulate the cooking smoke. I learned that this year. 36 yr old. 😅
Just curious I thought there was supposed to be a flapper on the top of the pipe under the vent on the roof anybody know for sure?
The flapper should be on the roof vent he installed
Good job. Kept it simple for sure.
I would made inside of a cabinet nicer and vent pipe is so short and uninsolated in winter there will be a lot of condensation.

bad attic insulation

11:15 just do that piece before the other 2 and you'd have space to duct
crazy thing I learned about duct tape is that it's not really meant for ducts.
Why didn’t you install cabinets that go up to the ceiling? You have a lot of dead space on top of cabinets!

is there an antenna in the loft? 😂

Vent is for the hood and not for mw ... it is 2 in1
The vent is for the cook top below the microwave. If the microwave was standing alone on a counter it wouldn't need the vent.
Its a range. Or OTR. Microwave and hood fan for cook top in one unit.

Aside from actually taping it you should be using roofing nails. It looks like you're trying to replace fence picket last.

That’s cool and all, but seriously… that’s a LOT of work and modification for a Microwave. I would have gone with a simpler one.
Especially for a flip house or rental property.
why using old newspaper when one could use an entire role of masking tape to do the job...
