One of the only interviews she's done where she actually talked about her life (rather than give a version of her stand-up routine)

What a brilliant and talented comedy genius. What great fortune that I lived and worked in Europe for a while; otherwise I may never have heard of her. Nobody I know here in America has any idea of her work. Rest in Peace dear lady.......

I've watched this a million times and it's still one of the funniest things ever.

This was how I found out about Victoria Wood, this interview in 2000. I was so wowed by it (and especially by Lets Do It) that I went looking for everything else she did. A genius. I'll miss her terribly.

Wonderful stuff. I would love to have met Victoria's mother, what a character. It's easy to see where her sense of humour originated from with a mother as bonkers as that.

Yes,well done Michael Parkinson, the 50s were quite boring. We know this 'cause Victoria had JUST TOLD US! Jesus, how the hell this man had the monopoly on chat shows on British tv has always escaped me! He is possibly the most dreary man who ever 'graced' television.Victoria,on the other hand, was her usual delightful self.

I take a completely opposing view of the fifties. For me and most of my contemporaries, they were the most wonderful, magical and innocent of days. Ms Wood had to exaggerate the story to make a laugh or two. Much as I admire her, I have to look somewhat scathingly at this interview.....
