    Nice choice of music. Timestretch sounded great in my nitro. I had 2 massive audio summo 12s in 6 cubes with 2 of the 6in precision ports tuned @ 32hz. Those subs put up a 151db legal score on 1 of the oldschool American Bass VFL120.1 wired at 1ohm.

    Where do you stand on the theory that a dual 4" PP' design causes more turbulence (otherwise known as port not being as "efficient") versus the similarly tuned box with one 6" PP from Parts Express?

    • @DIYAudioGuy
      @DIYAudioGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my opinion it does not make a difference. I would have gone with one of the 6-in ports but I was worried about the clearance between the woofer and the port. Nothing sucks worse than building a box, dropping the woofer in and having the magnet slam against the port.

    Try flaring a piece of 10" inner diameter PVC I cut the handles off a wok, put it upsidedown on an electric hot plate, a heat gun on 1 side & me w a torch on the other, 2 patio stones & a 3ft steel I-beam on top for downforce, & I barely got it to flare so I used that for in er flare, cut a 6in long piece of 10in Sono tube, cut tabs 1in wide 3in long all the way around, bent & fanned them out to make the shape of the flare, backed the cardboard sono tube w fiberglass fabric & resin making it solid enough for me to stand on, then used Bondo body filler to smooth out the flare, hide the cardboard, & make it aesthetically pleasing. It was a job but that was the only way i could think of getting a flare on a 10in dia ⅛-¼in thick pvc

    Almost every time I've had wood cut at Home Depot, they pull the saw down to the bottom and then pull it back up in one motion. Often the wood shifts as this is happening and I end up with cuts that are 1/8-1/4 off from top to bottom. The last time, the girl that cut it for me acttually knew what she was doing, and slid the wood away from the blade before bringing it back up. I've even offered tips to people who were running the saw to take the extra few seconds to do it right and had them decline. I've also had them refuse to cut wood once they found out it was for a speaker box.

    Come on shop teacher! You know that five core amp isn't giving that sub enough juice! Don't worry about saw dust too much.

      I think this subwoofer could benefit for some break in. The suspension was very stiff.

    From what I've seen and personal experience the majority of American Bass drivers are under rated or have a oddly high rating that is genuine, this model is know for handling decent amount of power so it may not seem that efficient because of the suspension compliance but if you tossed 1000w+ at it it may wake up and really slap...? My XRs have a 1500w rating I was very skeptical of that they resemble your typical 1k sub but I now have 2 on a True 5k and they seem take it without breaking a sweat.... One thing I hate about AB is they will not divulge the ts parameters on certain models...hmmm? so DATS is my only hope and I haven't bought it because my laptop is dead.

      This is the first time I've used one. I think you're right I think you really need to throw the power to it. I suspect that once it's broken in a little bit it'll flex more.

      @@DIYAudioGuy yeah my AB XRs changed alot from new to broken in, they were coined ABs more SQ oriented sub and I wasn't impressed at first but once those broke in they did sound butter smooth. They do get loud but the 200oz motor is only have a double stack so they have a lower xmax and xmech is limited so I will build some new custom subs and save those for something else or sell em. I am building a custom 18 with a 100% custom motor for kicks it may out do my 2 15s where it will have 28.5 xmax an easy 4" peak to peak excursion...the mechanical is limited to suspension with a 5.25" gap depth from seven .75 slugs. Have all the parts So some lathe work left and it's ready for assembly, pretty anxious. Great videos! Have a great day.

    35 hertz would have been more musical. Most lower tuning is for newer rap and rebassed/decaf

      That's the beauty of designing and building your own boxes, you can tune it based on your own objectives and your own tastes.

    Isn't 2 4" too much for a single 12" ? Single 4" psp full length is usually good 1.8-2.25cf box to get low 30s good tuning

      Depends on the port airspeed velocity.
