I did this mod today. Huge thanks. It transformed the switch from "sort of noisy" to "virtually silent". Awesome. For those wondering, it's the Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM fan.
No problem sir ! Mines been running 7 months flawless and love it :) Maybe Manufactures will start actually doing "thermal" regulating. Instead of just having loud stupid fans running for no reason..
I haven't seen mention of it but the fan screws are m3 .5 if you do the swap with a less than 30mm thick fan you will need spacers like he used or you can get an m3 .5 nut and washer to tighten the fan in place. Hope this helps!
I would like to try it too because the noise of this switch is really annoying. I am not very familiar with these things, in the video it does not see well, could you post some photos that show better what to cut in the connector?
Hey Mr Leamerz, does this have an effect on the temperature? I would assume the old fan pushes significantly more air which is one of the factors in making it noisier.
I'm going to purchase this switch now based on this mod as it seems pretty easy and straight forward. I noticed even per their last FW update in June it didn't address the PWM issues with the fan so that was a bit disconcerting, but for the difference in price it is far worth it over the 8-port version (fanless version). As a side note, is it worth using this switch as a router/firewall as well?
There is only three different NF-A4x20 fans. Two of them has 3-pin connectors and he speaks of a 4-pin connector so it has to be that one. It's the NF-A4x20 PWM in that case.
Would this Resistor Adapter work: www.ebay.de/itm/254210937401 ? (or does someone have a better source within the EU?) I'm thinking about buying 2 of the JL683A (195W) models, but is very important to me that I can get them quiet, since one of then will end up in my living room.
Hi! How is the Aruba Instant On 1930 8G 124 POE SKU #JL681A regarding noise? In this video: th-cam.com/video/QU2TtDQ9MjI/w-d-xo.html He says that there is some coil whine going on. Is that true? Regards, Salko

Hi, did you just replace the fan or did you also add the resistor?
@@hewun both, changed the fan and added resistor.
I did this mod today, can't hear the fan with the cover off, had to check it was spinning :) great mod advice, thank you
Very helpful video. Modded without issue. Noctua's are fantastic and extremely quiet.
Thanks sir, Huge Aruba Fan :) Lifetime warranty on the switches is a HUGE win over Unifi :)

I love the Aruba stuff, its so nice, !
And the next Aruba 1930 24G is now silent :) BTW have yo ualso installed the low-noise-adapter? Thanx for your great hint ...

All your cutting off are the little plastic pieces on the connector to make it line up. very Easy.
Great video, many thanks. Can you please advise which 10Gbe copper transceivers work with this switch?
I bought the 10g Fiber modules from tenfouroptics.com and they work perfectly ! Even their DAC cables work perfectly, highly recommended !
@@JasonLeaman Hi, Please can you confirm if you purchased the J9150D fiber module?
@@gustavorlopez Nope, i use tenfouroptics for all my SFP stuff, running over a year now not a single issue. tenfouroptics.com/collections/sfp-10g
@@JasonLeaman I refer to J9150D SFP+ module in this page tenfouroptics.com/collections/sfp-10g/products/j9150d
@@gustavorlopez Oh sorry, i google the J9150D and it came up with something HP, Yes that looks like the correct one i used :) rock solid units !

I have about 12 POE devices plugged in from Phones & WAPS & Cameras not a single issue since installed in my mini rack. Thanks for watching BTW !

You can't use the Switch as a firewall / router. It's a switch. Thanks for watching :)
Is there any warranry label which is destroyed when opening the switch?
Nope, none :) Thanks for watching !
could you give a link for the Fan?
It's in the Video description. I bought mine from Amazon.
Can you link the noctua FAN what you have installed? (there gives a lot of NF-A4x20 Fan)

If you buy the Fan's in the link above, the resistors come with the fans :)
@@JasonLeaman Thanks! Somehow I missed that on the German version of the Amazon page for the fan...

Mines silent. I wouldn't worry about coil noise tho, its a switching power supply.
