I'm in corporate education and I would be over the moon to have all of my facilitators & instructors deliver with the patience and clarity that Liesl demonstrates. I'm dabbling with the idea of beginning to sew and this video helped demystify the patterns that used to give me anxiety back in high school home ec.
I've never made any clothing from a pattern, and my first project, I'm tackling a dress pattern from 1949! I'm intimidated, but this video helped me feel so much more at ease!! Glad I found it.

I could only sew pillows and curtains but now I feel confident to read and measure and start tackeling more easy sewing projects to move up when I have this down pretty good. I am pretty old and have been sewing, off and on all my life. I always had trouble fitting my upper body and never heard or knew about fitting for the upper bust. I always measured my bust and tried to alter as I sewed, the rest of the top. It was always a fiasco and lots of tears. I am/was a big size to begin with, and everything was too big. The shoulders didn't fit right and the neck was too big and everything fell off my shoulders. I felt like a freak. Now, I know that I'm a large cup size and size the rest of the top to fit and alter for the cup size. So much easier. What a lot of wasted energy and hurt. This has been very helpful. Some tips are good reminders, and some are new ideas and will make my sewing life easier. I'm ready to go. Thanks for posting. I've subscribed.

I remember my mother doing all of this with me around 12 years old and I gotta say you did it so fantastically well. I'm just stuck watching this because you're so calming and clear but I don't even like using packaged patterns anymore lol. Great explanation though really good job going over a whole lot of info

I love how you showed us what to look for on the patterns and demonstrated how to read the legend and how to mark the patterns or the tracing paper which I will probably want to use instead so the pattern is still intact and can be used again easily for a different size if needed. I thank you so much for the help you have given me and I will use it in my projects. My mother sewed dresses for my sisters and herself and had a nice machine and I now have a new machine and want to use it to make projects specific to my needs, but won't be doing women's clothing though.

Very thorough tutorial. This made patterns so much less intimidating. I have taught myself through trial and error quite a bit with sewing but patterns always looked far out of my league. Now I feel like I can definitely tackle making my own clothing to fit my body and my style.

Even though I have been sewing for many years and know a lot of the information given in the video....I still learned something. It never occurred to me to place wrong sides together and to do the markings as shown. Brilliant- going to do this from now on. I also really enjoy the pace of the instructions and this would be super helpful to new sewers. I certainly wish when I was a beginner that I had access to this information presented this way. You have made the BEST video ever for this subject! I am leaning a lot from it. You explain so many things I have not heard about before in clear and concise language. I am still viewing this video and hope to make a top for my 5 yr old niece when I have completely finished watching (and learning) this video. I'll probably keep coming back to it several times until I comprehend it all. Thank you for making this. I will check and see what other videos you have made also.

Very thorough tutorial. This made patterns so much less intimidating. I have taught myself through trial and error quite a bit with sewing but patterns always looked far out of my league. Now I feel like I can definitely tackle making my own clothing to fit my body and my style.

Even though I have been sewing for many years and know a lot of the information given in the video....I still learned something. It never occurred to me to place wrong sides together and to do the markings as shown. Brilliant- going to do this from now on. I also really enjoy the pace of the instructions and this would be super helpful to new sewers. I certainly wish when I was a beginner that I had access to this information presented this way. Thank you.

My mama told me that I should start with patterns when I said I wanted to learn how to sew clothes but it was like I was looking at the DaVinci Code. You demystified it for me and made me feel more confident about tackling this pattern.
