Just got back from Hawaii and I tried Waiola, Island Vintage and Matsumoto. I'd have to say that Waiola was my favorite, it was just so smooth and tasty. Matsumoto I feel was more like an Icee, the ice was harder and not as silky smooth as Waiola or even Island Vintage. Thanks for the info in this video and your others, we found some places to visit and excellent food to eat on our Oahu trip.
Aloha John's! Glad you got to enjoy the Shave Ice here and we think alike. Waiolas is the best. And known for their smooth texture . I like then because if the variety! And Island Vintage is good. But they are a little more pricey and make me fill out on their screen now when I went. Glad this video helped and you had a great time here. 👍🤙🌈
i feel the same way. My mom grew up on oahu in the 80's so we have family and friends on oahu and come every other year (sometimes more like when my grandparents passed). I think i've been to waiola every single time i've gone. Don't get me wrong I think matsumotos is tasty but it's across the island (from where most tourists stay) and whenever i've been it's always super busy. Waiola will always have a place in my heart as i've literally been going since before I can remember.
You have never steered me wrong, but UNCLE CLAY'S House of Pure Aloha is by far the best. The only place on Oahu with all fresh real fruit flavors. We tried every place you recommended, but went back to Clay's 3 times !!!

We went to Jejubing based on your video recommendation and AGREE is one of our favorite dessert places to try during our trip. We also tried Lahaina Shave Ice (which I think can be featured on an episode of underrated shave ice places) which gives generous portions (even for keikei size) and makes their own natural tea flavors. They also remind me of Ululani's in Maui. We would have also tried Ice Monster on Kuhio St but will have to save that for another trip. Samurai's Hawaiian Frost self serve machine was a fun find at the ABC store by the Imperial Hotel. We've tried Matsumoto's, Aoki's, Waiola's when they used to serve it in those plastic cones (that were then used to build sand castles) and enjoyed all of them as well! Mahalo for these videos (SingMaTei so Ono).

For me, I like Uncle Clay’s House Of Pure Aloha. But I haven’t tried all the places mentioned. Here in the mainland, the best one is Brian’s Shave Ice in LA.

Great video you guys!! I feel like I need to get on it and try more of a variety of shave ice around the island. We often do kula in Haleiwa because they have a nice grassy area for the kids to play in. They use all natural syrup so it’s a little more pricey. I tired jejubin in Ala Moana for the first time a few weeks ago…So ono!!

If you’re ever in the Bay Area check out Always Aloha shave ice. They do pop ups during the warmer months. VERY good and close to Ululanis. Soft ice, homemade flavors, the owners are from Oahu.

OK Sean. The only food that I do not like in Oahu is Shave Ice. I am used to K-Shave Ice (e.g., Jeju Bing - Jeju is the largest island in the southern part of Korea and Bing means "ice" in Korean) Next time when you are in Korea, try Bing. You will never try any other shave ice. Even Jejubing is not good compare to the ones in Korea. Could you do a piece on Zippy's? On the flight back to SF from HNL, I often see someone with Zippy's. What is your favorite Zippy's? Or have you done a video already?
Aloha Min C!! Oh wow!! I wouldnlove to try some Korean Bingsu Shave Ice from Korea. I love Jejubing and I can only imagine getting it from the real source:):) and as fat as Zippys? I don't support them anymore. It was the thing with the locals 10 to 30 years ago. But their quality has gone down a lot and their prices sky rocketed at the same time. So I couldn't even pretend I liked them, even if they paid me. I'll do segments on the local mom and pop shops👍🤙😋
@@SeanKaleponi funny you mentioned it. Last January I tried Zippy’s for the first time. Think it was Zip Pack or something. The Fried chicken was undercooked and raw. You know that is deadly. I complained and they refunded the money. But you are right. That is a sign of poor quality. Question. Heard that there is a Tonkatsu place that requires a four months adv reservation. Cant be that good right? Or have you done Tonkatsu already?

We are on a mission to try as many shave ice places we can find this trip. We hit Waiola and it was pretty good. Still feel like Waialua Sugar Mill has been the best. But if you venture out to to Kailua you should definitely check out “Island Snow”, great price, very nice staff, and amazing shave ice.

Bro that’s so crazy I just came back from my trip and I got post vacation blues so I watched this video, and I discovered that I actually went to the same places as you!!! I got a place for you to try out though, it’s called island vintage shave ice. It’s located at the royal Hawaiian mall (near Sheraton Waikiki) and I gotta say, it ranks up there with Matsumoto and waiola, it might be even better! Give it a try!!!

Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki has a little shave ice stand in front of a fake turf area that hosts bands and music. The shave ice is very good there because the ingredient are more natural and not food colored. I think it is the best.
Aloha Star!! I know what your talking about. Those hard Ice crystals come usually from places that don't even focus on Shave Ice and is just on the menu.
Maybe just my imagination but original Wailoa on Waiola st....tastes a little different than newer one...different mo bettah! there goes my blood sugar!

OK Sean. The only food that I do not like in Oahu is Shave Ice. I am used to K-Shave Ice (e.g., Jeju Bing - Jeju is the largest island in the southern part of Korea and Bing means "ice" in Korean) Next time when you are in Korea, try Bing. You will never try any other shave ice. Even Jejubing is not good compare to the ones in Korea. Could you do a piece on Zippy's? On the flight back to SF from HNL, I often see someone with Zippy's. What is your favorite Zippy's? Or have you done a video already?
Aloha Min C!! Oh wow!! I wouldnlove to try some Korean Bingsu Shave Ice from Korea. I love Jejubing and I can only imagine getting it from the real source:):) and as fat as Zippys? I don't support them anymore. It was the thing with the locals 10 to 30 years ago. But their quality has gone down a lot and their prices sky rocketed at the same time. So I couldn't even pretend I liked them, even if they paid me. I'll do segments on the local mom and pop shops👍🤙😋
@@SeanKaleponi funny you mentioned it. Last January I tried Zippy’s for the first time. Think it was Zip Pack or something. The Fried chicken was undercooked and raw. You know that is deadly. I complained and they refunded the money. But you are right. That is a sign of poor quality. Question. Heard that there is a Tonkatsu place that requires a four months adv reservation. Cant be that good right? Or have you done Tonkatsu already?

We are on a mission to try as many shave ice places we can find this trip. We hit Waiola and it was pretty good. Still feel like Waialua Sugar Mill has been the best. But if you venture out to to Kailua you should definitely check out “Island Snow”, great price, very nice staff, and amazing shave ice.

Bro that’s so crazy I just came back from my trip and I got post vacation blues so I watched this video, and I discovered that I actually went to the same places as you!!! I got a place for you to try out though, it’s called island vintage shave ice. It’s located at the royal Hawaiian mall (near Sheraton Waikiki) and I gotta say, it ranks up there with Matsumoto and waiola, it might be even better! Give it a try!!!

Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki has a little shave ice stand in front of a fake turf area that hosts bands and music. The shave ice is very good there because the ingredient are more natural and not food colored. I think it is the best.
