I started with this ed brubaker and Sean Phillips train I'm on with pulp and it was so amazing and even shows real things like writers getting ripped off of the characters they created and getting no residual rights or money for the characters they make and then I read kill or be killed and iv never read a book that spoke to me like that series I mean the mental struggle Dylan gose through in that series and some stuff is just heart breaking and shocking to read in that series then I read all the criminal series and wow them books are just so amazingly put together I mean you can pick any book up and just start it in the criminal series and it tells its own story and you won't get lost for me volume 1 of the criminal series was amazing and my favourite character was gnarly the bartender of the bar the old boxer who had his life destroyed for the love of his life and I'm on my 3rd volume of reckless and WOW the series is another masterpiece from Sean and ed brubaker I mean the art is breathtaking but the little twists and turns in the series so far it's amazing and I'm so glad iv found these books
This was great. I’m a fool for any Brubaker/Phillips jam. I love the size of the Reckless books, but I wouldn’t mind an oversized collection of them to really enjoy the artwork. Sumner you’re the best!
I've been trying to write a crime comic for a while and I always discard the idea because it doesn't stand in the same quality of storytelling as the Brubaker/Phillips books (or how I like to call them, Brullips). These guys have set a gold standard for storytellers in comics that I think it is achievable, but we don't have enough people trying. I've been a Brubaker fan since his run on Iron Fist. Then I started collecting the Criminal series. I love all the books they have made and I wish there was more comics duos like them that represent the beauty of the comic book both in the visual and narrative aspect that makes the medium shine.
Killed or be killed is my absolute favourite story I've ever read. Everyone should be reading that book and.... these two + Elizabeth Breitweiser are the trio never to be messed with. I'm in total awe.
That was the one that I couldn’t get through. I remember buying the first issue and it didn’t compel me to buy #2; then years later, I bought the first trade, trying to complete my Brubaker/Phillips collections, and again, it didn’t make me want to read the rest. But I do love Criminal!

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Sean Phillips before, but damned if he doesn’t look like a Sean Phillips character!
The most consistently interesting duo in comics...
I don't understand why Sleeper and Incognito aren't a bigger deal. 2 of the best series I own. Hail Brubaker and Phillips.

Don't give up, man! If you love it, do it. You never know what might happen, but you shouldn't just give up :)

Never give up, man - use this amazing duo as your inspiration!

Hard agree!

But I do love Criminal!
