good review, some very useful infomation there. Do you know if its possible to implement a good hihat functionality with a pedal? I mean, is it possible to choke off the open sound by closing the pedal, and to have the hihat get splashier as you slowly open it...

@Bflatest yeah, you totally can do. you can take a normal bass pad (even not yamaha, e.g. millenium etc.) or you can even take a hihat trigger pedal, plug it into "footswitch" chan and configure it as a "pad". this allows you to play kickdrum without the still very loud sound of a foot machine, hitting the bass pad.

Yamaha might need an update to the DTX Multipad as it is now 10+ years old tech. I don't think Yamaha is interested much in their electronic drum range as Roland has dominated the market for decades. Surprisingly the DTX Multipad still has some features that the competition don't, playable by hands and not just sticks. It's weaknesses mostly seem to be visual feedback, onboard menu system and limited sampling capabilities including tiny onboard ROM. If they updated this & take some ideas from the Alesis Strike Multipad and keep the price reasonable I would be interested.

I just got a used one of these for 300 dollars Canadian and don't know how to use it. It would have been nice if you not only shows what this could do, but how to do it as well. That poly/mono trigger thing would be helpful.

If I use this live with my acoustic kit for percussion tracks will the headphone output be loud enough to not get buried. I have an old Roland drum machine and the problem is there isnt enough volume to hear very well. I really like this machine. I like it much more than the SPD-30. I am new at using these live so any info you can pass on will be very helpful

If you save it as samples, you can use it with either the SPD-SX and Multi12 (or the original SPD-S). The only difference is that the SPD-SX has 2GB of memory, while the Yamaha has only 64MB.

    QUESTION :
if you can have multiple patters playing at the same time (triggered by different pads), can those patters be in different lengths and/or time-signatures ?
The manual doesn't address this, except in the "merge" function, where it advises against it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to stop a looping sample by striking the pad that started it. I can only find this option with built patterns. I really need to be able to stop a sample while it's looping. Any ideas?

I'm thinking of trading in my DTX drum kit for this pad. Easier to manage, SUPER compact. The end.

Yamaha... I like the how "real" a drum can sound coming out of the machine. Not to mention you have access to modify each sound with out any hard menus ..
