Being a Marxist myself, I've got some sympathy for folks like George. While most of the world sits idly by while the water starts to simmer, your old school gadflys are still out there calling for social equity, civil liberty, and a more reasoned view of the relationship between the 'military-industrial complex' and civil government. Their problem is (and always has been) an odd sort of myopia, leaving them unable to distinguish between state power IN THE SERVICE of liberty (see, Ukraine), and its use in oppression. George is not a 'tankie', and his argument against NAFO's work here is the standard one against 'cancel culture'- a difficult and nuanced subject to identify, much less regulate. I would have preferred that his group be allowed to meet and speak, and to have people identifying with NAFO and its efforts there to provide a different perspective on the subject. George is no more against freedom for the Ukrainian people than we are, and while his beliefs on how to achieve it may seem unrealistic to us, the same was said of Gandhi and Mandela.
