Robkn William's was just being Robin Williams when he played the Genie. He and Will Smith were just being their fun selves.
Will Smith got clowned for being given this role. And turns out he was one of the best parts of the film.
Prince Ali song sequence was fire. 🔥🔥🔥

My husband and I are 80's babies and true Disney movie fans. We played the Aladdin game too! When I heard the preview of the movie before it came out, I was turned off. But because my husband is a true Will Smith fan, we went to view the live action film. I have to say I loved every moment of the film. DJ Khaled put a real dope spin on the song never had a friend like me. And Will was awesome as Genie. I loved Aladdin, his character remained classic and daring. JASMINE THO.... she is now standing on a platform with Elsa from Frozen. I loved the new song and the purpose she had in the movie. Different from the original animated film. And they gave genie a life! I loved it!

There were some slow motion moments like when Aladdin and Jasmine were running away from the soldiers at the beginning that were Guy Ritchie-esque. This movie was awesome though, Will Smith really brought it to life.

Sega Genesis action for sure along with OG Sonic, Willie Beamish, and Kid Chameleon. I still crack up at the moaning Aladdin did during the transition when you lose a level.

The best thing about this movie was it was about to embrace their CULTURE fully. If you know who played the voices in the old movie and see the people who played the characters in this one, you LOVE the fact they embraced and highlights the culture of the people who played those roles.
The return of Jafar?? Whaaaaat? Lol i never even heard of that and i was a huge Aladdin fan!

Feel every piece! Man I dig your insight into film, and your passion for it. I was 4 when Aladdin came out, and it was my favorite movie then. The genie made me want to be a voice actor, haha! Robin Williams beyond genius. Your movie reviews are the best. Thanks Tony!

Return of Jafaar went straight to video mainly bc of a dispute between Robin Williams & Disney. That’s also why Robin didn’t play the Genie in the sequel.

You should definitely check out Return of Jafar! I loved it. Hopefully Disney's streaming service includes it. I would love it see it again. I had it on VHS as soon as it dropped...every time I watched Aladdin I would pop in Return of Jafar right afterwards. Great follow up movie. Oh BTW, I agree... Hakeem would have been a better Jafar. He needed to be more menacing - wasn't too convincing of Jafar for me. Cartoon Jafar was better. Good movie tho...Music A+
I honestly thought it was pretty good. As a child my mom had to buy this movie for me on VHS 3 times(played it too much)....so obviously i was a big fan....so the thirst was real for me. I wasn't disappointed.
Great live version, I knew Will was perfect only downside was Jafar. I agree with what he said about him being 1 note and may not mattered 2 others but I really hated how they missed his curly long beard.
Two Guy Ritchie moments, I caught; 1. The random speed ups in Aladdin's song/dance number 2. Jasmine's song and dance number where she stops time/thinks what she should..at the end

I loved it! Going back again with my niece! 4 & a half saxophones. I loved the added hip hop feel to the music also !
Plain and simple it was dope!! It got me more excited for the Lion King Live Action!

Walt Disney needs to create some more great cartoon movies for the theatre so that they can make the live action/computer version later. Bring back cartoons.
Only ppl dat can fractionally fill Robin Williams' shoes is Jim Carey or *MAYBE* Gabriel Iglesias bcuz of their range of random characters they create or replicate in their natural selves in comedy. Honestly either one of them would have been a better Genie but i know Will likely put his signature on it

I totally agree... there will never be another Robin Williams and Will Smith made this role his. I'd like to see a movie about the origins of the genie. Was he cruel like Jafar? Why did he make the choice to become the genie, if he had a choice? Also, i thought i was the only one thinking about aladdin for the genesis, especially when escaping the cave of wonders. That brought back some memories.
All the action shots in the market when Aladdin and Jasmine were running away was ALL Guy Richie aesthetics. There is even a signature slow motion of Abu capturing the lamp that is 100% Guy Richie.

I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. Will Smith did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend that you check out the two sequels Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

Well in defense of Return of Jafar, a movie I have no recollection of, that was an era where Disney was seemingly obsessed with the straight to home video sequels. For whatever reason that was just the business model at the time

Yeah, Guy Ritchie did a great job stepping out his box with this one. I hate musicals but Will Smith made it funny. Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was good too.
The slow down when aladdin was thrown out of the window and also the disappearing guys when Jasmin was singing...
Those were Guy Ritchie-ish..
My expectations weren't high because Aladdin was not my favorite AT ALL (born in 90), but i loved this. I'll take this one over the original. I'm partial to Will Smith. Great review Tony!

What about that slow mo scene with Jasmine in stilled time like singing solo? That was pretty different and out of the ordinary compared to the rest of the film... It was cool tho.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I probably wouldn't watch it again mainly cause it's just exactly like the cartoon but I think they did a good job of trying to stay true to the original.

Snatch is a favorite of mine too. I saw his signature in those jerky movements in some scenes. I loved this movie. Can’t wait to see it again.

That whole Jafarr deal was he used the mind control to coax the sultan into trusting him. But I'm sure I'm late to the party on that one. Lol! I enjoyed the movie more than the , personally .
Will did great!! What I was disappointed on was the scene Aladdin and Jafar meet. He was an old man not as himself. I was wishing I would see that scene.
I thought Oded Fehr was gonna played Jafar lol 😅 Dude with the buzz cut was mean the entire time, not slick at all

Overall, definitely better than I thought it was going to be.. Jasmine had to grow on.. I took to Aladdin quicker.. I didnt see Genie, just Will Smith but that didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.. Jafari, he did it for me the least as an actor and I think that's because of how he looked compared to the cartoon

I smiled from ear to ear the whole movie. I sang every song. And tried to contain myself in my seat from the excitement. I saw it twice. 4.5🎷
Aladdin on Super Nintendo is the first video game I ever played.
The songs were fine, but I wish they would have done more with Will Smith during those songs. Like during Prince Ali, he just walks forward, never really reacting to what he's singing. We have the technology that they could have Will Smith go a little more HAM on the Genie role, but it's like they held him back.
I loved it! Will was great, the cast was great, the visuals and music...quite pleasing. Thx for your review!
