This song is really great. It's basically telling you not to give up on your dreams, and even if they do come true, and things still aren't right and what you want, still striving cause you are alive in your dreams that have come true. Don't give up fellow musicians out there!
even though I'm a punk/pop punk fan for much of the last 20+ years, I only just heard this song like a month ago. And it's been stuck in my head ever since.
5 years ago, when i told my parents I wanted to follow my dreams, they shot me down. They didn't just do that, they got my entire extended family to essentially talk to me one by one, all of them telling me that this was a mistake, I wouldn't have a future. My entire family tried to talk me out of it, with the exception of one uncle, who basically told me to go for it and not listen to what anyone has to say. I was 16 back then, a "stupid kid" who had "no idea" what he wanted. I went and got a diploma in the subject I wanted to study which was psychology, in fact, I did so damn well that the local university offered me a scholarship. Now here I am 5 years later, sitting in my university dorm, typing this message. My entire family has done an about face, my parents have never been prouder of me. If you have dreams, chase them, prove all the naysayers wrong and in time those that were against you will start to side with you.
@@anastasiam4448 Sure! I just recently graduated with my major in Psychology with first class honours (something like magna cum laude), I have been accepted into a Master's Program in Work and Organizational psychology at VU Amsterdam and Consultancy and Organizational Development at University of Amsterdam, it became a huge passion of mine throughout the course of my university life and I understood that this was what I wanted to do in the future. I also found a girlfriend and the love of my life through my exchange program at Amsterdam around my third year of this major and getting the Master's there is huge for me because this means I get to be reunited with her and stay with her in the future. Essentially this one choice of studying a diploma in psychology directed me towards this path that I am currently on and I don't know what might have happened if I listened to my parents, but I wouldn't change a single thing if I could turn back time!
@@deathendz That is an inspiring story to say the least, I'm impressed and I do very much hope you get to spend your future with your girlfriend in a working field you love :))
it's definitely good to be inspired and do what you wanna do, just make sure you have a backup plan so you don't waste life away if it doesn't work out.
I've never been to see Yellowcard, I bought tickets for their Paper Walls tour for Bristol, but the gig got cancelled... I saw them supporting All Time Low last year, but it was only half an hour... I've loved these guys right from the beginning since I was young, now I'm nearly 25...I'm going to see them in London on the 26th Feb! Perfect birthday present! Can't wait!!! My favourite song off this album is probably Surface of the Sun. followed by Here I Am Alive... What are you guys' faves?
Actually no this is not a duet at all. All it is is Tay harmonizing with Ryan during the chorus. A duet is a piece of musical composition where both people have equal importance. 🤓😉
Perhaps my greatest dream would be to meet Ryan Key and the rest of Yellowcard for making the most amazing, inspirational music i've ever heard in my entire life. Their music has impacted me so greatly over the year's, been to literally 82 shows. Without Yellowcard I wouldn't have such a love for music, or life. From the band Craigs Brother (Ryan Key), One For The Kids, all the way until now, I have been hooked. Thank's YC for all the great music and memories!
Almost 10 years since i first listen to this ang Here I Am Alive still stuck 10 years ago the joys and sorrow feels like yesterday i was growing old but not growing up
MUSiC iS THE CURE! GOD iTS SO TRUE! YELLOWCARD I thank you for pausing the pain :) gunna freakin miss u guys thanks so much for the amazing music!! u guys are so under rated
watching this in 2017. One of the best song with the best motivational lyrics. I love the melody since listened to this for the first time and the videoclip. I LOVE IT ALL TILL NOW. It was the minute I said 'geez these people are freaking genius!'. and btw Tay is goddamn cool.
Who knew it would take seeing Yellowcard live in my local area to find out how EPIC this song is performed live right in front of you. Seriously, it is nothing short of brilliant when coupled with an entirely amazing set list. It's crowd-moving and everyone there knew how good it was. In short, any YC fan that is reluctant about this song MUST see them playing it in concert.
I love this song. So much that I got it tattooed on my arm. Take what you get, Get what you want. Live your own dreams. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something.
I once read that this album was absolute garbage. I stopt listening to it half a year ago because of it. today I decided to check it out again. and what the hell was I thinking?! I Love this song and album!
I feel you on that one. Even though the song came out in 2012, it still has that early 2000s pop punk vibe, but in a mature way. You could tell the 2000s emo and pop punk at this stage were hitting maturity. This song is a good example of it. It's not a revival of the scene or song from a new band that wanted to live in the 2000s pop punk glory days. It's the original genre from an original band that took something in the 2000s with them and made it in a mature fashion. I love it.
@@philliplandry4139 it reminds me of the days as a kid walking my neighborhood. just enjoying the peacefulness before phones and tiktok and all that crap. lol i sound like a boomer i know but damn its just lovely
@go2hell746 I know, I'm a Millennial born in 1986, growing up in the late 90s to early 2000s as a teenager and coming up as a young adult from mid to late 2000s. This song, including the genre of music, is where I was brought up. Right before social media took over the platform of society and long before idiotic media like tik tok and Snapchat. We missed the days when kids hung out outside talking about what's on TV, including music, bands, video games, and sports. There were no shitty autotune rappers and pop musicians. No movies or shows that relied on reboot or remakes. No wannabe pornstars or fake LGBT power trips, and plastic people. I missed the life of the early to mid 2000s, right before it all went into a dumpster fire.
Well, I guess I'm late to the party. I found this song last week, and it's been on heavy rotation in my playlist ever since. I'm glad I can still buy the music, even if the band's stopped touring.
There were times where people gave up on me, there was a time where I gave up on myself to a point where I looked at my reflection with such hatred. This band and the sense of hope I find within their songs made me start having more faith in myself and not enough words from the heart can express my endless gratitude. They taught me to never give up on myself and this song really sums up what Yellowcard means to me. Underdog for life!
Main issue with this video is that Ryan is probably 7 years or so older than Tay in real life, so if they went back, say 18 years, Ryan would still be 7 years older than Tay. Wait, there was time travel. Whatever. This song is awesome! I love Yellowcard and We Are The In Crowd :D
With Tay Jardine in the song it makes it even better....I just now discovered this in 2022. Didn't know the "We are the in crowd until 2021 Anyone else got any bands to recommend like these 2?
I didn't even know Tay Jardine was in this song until I watched the video.. they should have a featuring mentioning her or do they not do that because it's just backing vocals?? Bad ass and inspiring
Yellowcard and We Are The In Crowd are both one of my favorite bands of all time. This song is so great knowing that it's a song I love, and features Tay Jardine!

One of my favorite song - I can't believe this doesn't even have 1,000,000 views. I just wish Tay would have had her own verse. My favorite part of the video is Tay at 2:46.
The violin player and dreadlock drummer are such classics!!!

As popular as they were, they were still an underrated band.
2020 still watching, hope everything will be OK soon. Yes!!

Thank youu
Well, here we are alive kid
Some of the people who make the music will be legends for 50+ years. They're doing something for future generations. That's the point.
So many people close to me cut me down,
This is supposed to be a bad luck town
I jumped, I fell, I hit the ground.
But here I am ALIVE.
I feel like Ryan Key just takes the thoughts right outta my head and turns them into amazing lyrics. He and Yellowcard (and Tay) are just so talented.
I like how Ryan and Tay are singing a duet type deal but Tay needed a solo part in this song. That'd be epic omfg. :P
I wouldn't even really call it a duet. Ryan really overpowered her in this song that you can really only hear Ryan's vocals
Actually no this is not a duet at all. All it is is Tay harmonizing with Ryan during the chorus. A duet is a piece of musical composition where both people have equal importance. 🤓😉
She should have had a bigger part of the song including the second verse!
