How about the Super Soil you tried out in the fall? Did you notice any change when the grass started coming in?
I honestly can't tell ya either way...the grass is improving, so is the soil but I can't say...."Super Soil Did This" if ya get my drift....I think that's just the nature of these microbial soil amendments

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer - We did a small patch (quarter acre) with Super Soil a few months ago on our hay field. I was really looking forward to the results, but a couple months later I can't tell the difference.
I like to see the pasture in a month.
Kudos to you Josh, for doing an experiment on your farm. Doesn't hurt one bit to try a product to get the soil healthy to produce good grass. Healing the land with microbes aligns well with your philosophy. Will really be interesting to see the long term outcome. Great Job!😊

Growing green plants is mainly irrigation to grow plant material ,and then allowing it to shade its roots and fertilizer to help both. You can mulch with hay or any other organics ,however it comes back to moisture/retention and shading roots from uv.
Look at Israel they used irrigation and fertilizer. Check out Holland they pumped out the salt water from the ocean,and used large amounts of fertilizer. Look at Haiti vs DR on satellite. Imagine how long any of these projects would take using hay? The solution can become the problem . Irrigated crops in Colorado do well. Neighboring dry farms do not.
folks don't really irrigate around here...but might have too if we don't start getting some rain soon!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Who cares what other folks are doing. You have some ponds...seems you could get some traveler irrigation and test it out. Not sure of the payback with beef...as compared to a high value crop. Best wishes

Have you ever looked into turkey manure pellets? It's been a game changer for Our land. Cost effective, organic, With No harmful residues. Give it a try if you haven't and I promise you'll notice a big difference within the matter of a couple of weeks.
it would be great to get any kind of manure or litter....but I don't have a resource locally...any litter from birds will make the farm grow insanely quick...super high in nitrogen!
Hard to inoculate soil microbes when they probably can’t survive in your soil. They have certain requirements to survive. This product will probably help the PLANT just like they said you must have 4-6 inches of crop but it will do little of the soil. So next year you will have the same problem. You must go to the ROOT of the problem. Take soil samples and learn your carbon to nitrogen ratio, use a penatrometer to determine soil respiration, and an ec meter to see if there is too much or too little electricity. This is literally just liquid fertilizer

@@JCWren soil has a electrical charge. Ideal is .3 to .7 volts. Outside of that soil microbes struggle
@@americanbeefranch This doesn't seem to be correct. You're speaking of soil electrical conductivity. This doesn't directly affect plant growth, but it's an indirect indicator of the nutrients available for uptake. I just read through a couple of papers from Purdue University and the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition. I believe the 0.3 to 0.7 you're referring to is the "Threshold EC" value.
@@JCWren correct. But it does affect microal activity which affects soil health. Plant growth can be affected with little regard for the soil health that he’s is trying to improve.
By electricity he means parts per million.
How's the grass in the drive doing!🤣 I really think you should try Core aeration is an essential lawn care service that involves removing small "cores" of soil from your lawn to loosen compacted soil and make it easier for nutrients and other resources to reach the roots of your grass. Grass is a plant and it needs room to grow.
I used supersoil this spring and and worked great in all areas that were not compacted of shale.

If you have chicken house where you live you could buy it and spread it on the fields. Down here in Georgia we spread it and the grass grows
I am farming with rotational grazing and I have noticed my pastures improving. I am trying Agritech products right now, which is a liquid application of fertilizer and calcium with a biomass included in the product. This is the first year after my first application, waiting to see results, so far liking what I see.
Agritech sounds similiar to Nutr I Graze, good luck. Your right about fertilizer prices. We are always trying to improve our pastures and hayfields, you cant keep taking out without addind back into the ground. Good health and be safe out there, farmer rod

I made some compost tea and put a cup per plant (tomato) every other plant. I could not believe how much it helped. I think it was like 4 to 1 better but then I added some worm poop in a batch of compost tea and put it on the plants that did not get any last time. And boom u talking about a difference it made was crazy. They say u can put it in your tank like you just did and spray your lawn and it will make it pop so I’m going to try it this year I think

Josh, you mentioned nitrogen. Assuming PH is 6-7 have you looked at frost seeding clover? Might also be able to seed some crabgrass into those bare spots for summer grazing. Good luck.
I think in time it will get better getting the organics on it to soak up the water with fertilizer manure/urine it will get better keep filling the voids with seed and they shall work in harmony to shade each other. Hope the grubs don't get to it that can make a mess!
Can you comment on the super soil you used previously compared to this? I bought super soil based on your original video, and curious about what you thought of it.
the grasses are improving...that's for sure....I think Super Soil did great...but I'd be cheating myself to not try other things in different areas of the farm to see how they perform...more on this coming soon...and we'll re-apply super soil agian this year

Starting with 20 laying hens now and beef cattle and cows hopefully later this year. I’m seeing lots of negative comments for some reason. You’re doing great man. Josh , I like what you're doing now some people well I could say check that fire friendly fire it were military. Also many of these people consider the source & let it slide, as far as this vid all that you are saying makes sense to me. Also my understanding from a master gardener 1"/wk is desirable water on lawns and gardens I'd think on fields too ; is that even doable? I bless the rains over your farms to fall on your property Josh.

Who funded the study? That is the most important question. Learned that in college. Self serving studies are common. Bad results don't get published. If you want more money for further studies you better have made them happy. Even the government does this. They have rewritten executive summaries stating the opposite of what the study actually says. Second thing to look at is correlation coefficient ( r squared r2). Far to many medical studies make bold pronouncements and that is based on r2 that says it is essentially random numbers. That is why people showing things means much more to me. I can look at aerial photos of your fields if I think there is hanky panky. Thaks for what you do.

I used it on 40 acres last spring , did It help ? Maybe I really didn’t see a big difference if any, I’m going to try a mix of raw milk ,brown sugar or malaises with Sea90 minerals this year

it has cruise... but is only really good on flat ground or ground that's all the same...up hill and down hill changes the speed...I think it works on the hydraulic pump....so it needs more flow to go up hill and less to go down
I’d like to see the ingredients, I looked it up and it doesn’t give me any information, as dark as it is it looks like it has humic acid in it, and than probably a microbial.
Is it a gibberellic acid as well?

all the tractor tires here on the farm are ballasted..meaning full of fluid

You profiled SUPERSOIL, a product from Ireland/Scotland(?) last year.. How did that product work out for you?

Read the “trials” data in the link to Ralco’s site. A couple points: 1) I did not see a reference to a peer reviewed journal article, so I can only rely on the company’s interpretation of the data, 2) The trials only speak of “biomass” which includes organic material both above and below ground. Interestingly, they only show pictures of roots, not foliage, and only say Nutrigraze makes roots bigger and thus more drought tolerant (there are no data on drought tolerance in any of the trials, thus this assertion cannot be made from the data, 3) The TH-cam author’s results seem to be minimal at best (although we dont know if his pasture root mass is larger), 4) Nutrigraze ingredients, including additives and carriers, are unknown. A control spray with water and any inactive ingredients should have been performed alongside the experimental field.

It doesn’t need to be nutrigraze,it needs to be something for his type of nutrients lack and soil type.
It can sounds redecilous but type of soil is equal to the rooths built and strenght and all of that will give you resault or not.
More less you can find foliar fertilisers 100 different kinds and on his type of the soil it may happend that the best will be starter for squash,melon and cucumbers….
With out soil analasys there is no garanty what can be the best.

I’ve got bad news Josh. Bad news. My grandpa died Monday. He was 87 years old. I’m gonna go tomorrow to see his grave. I just don’t and didn’t have it in me to go to the funeral today. Just too hard. He’s the one who started Stony Springs Farm back in 89. Gonna miss him. Glad I was one of the few grand kids that actually got to learn our families traditions and will pass them down to my kids and grandkids.
Now comes the part where my aunt and uncle sell everything and the farm. Then run with the money. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is someone takes the traditions on down the family line.
I’ll be watching your videos till I finally have my own farm. Then we’ll see what happens then.

Hi,I do not want to Play to smart but since I’m registered producer in agriculrure not with grains but with fruits and vegetables all kinds and I use all kinds of foliar application depends on culture to be treated-I have 20+ years of Experience. So let’s start,it is free advice. 1st.,you are using something what is organic and eco friendly for inviroment,also using something for boost not long therm thing.
2nd.,your pasture/treated culture is not in good shape at all.
3rd.,2 weeks betven applications in your case is lost time.
4th.,this kind of fertilisers are not made to make wonders just like that,aminoacids and minerals+ other elements are there to help overall production and preserve rooths durability.
So what I can highly recomend to you is to use this fertiliser with 1 week break if the weather is promissing with rain if not on bad pasture even 5 days,why is that so?!
You need to bild up condition of the plants(grass) first and than give them boost growing stimulans,long therm vise is you will make the rooths and the plants much stronger and you will built the strenght in them to trive thrue the summer.
All in all is after 4-5 aplications is after you see the resaults be so obvious to do future aplications twice a month.
You do not need to do as I said,just keep my words on your mind.

So ....what you described is exactly the case....once I sprayed this area....I actually spoke with a local fella and fellow youtuber... @GCITurf Services....we came up with a fertilizer to spray along with this....I've sprayed the entire other side of the farm and as soon as we get some rain and the cows are off this side...I'll spray the rest...I'm having to change my plan a bit and work in some nitrogen supplementation

So what I suggest you is to use different products on different elevated pastures and if you know for shure that the tipe of the dirt is not quite same even better.
You are on a great way to make that work but try to Listen people who are using those stuff not the ones who are selling it.
ALWAYS read the back side is it fotosensitive,they all are but not on the same level,so do the spraying after sun goes down,does not need to be almoust dark.
Make a strategy for pastures in worst shape to go slower,give some aminoacids to the rooths aswell,let it be like leaking from the top of the Grass to the ground.
You mentioned it is like 10$ per acre,on those bad ones make it like 25$,go slower i make 20-30% stronger concentrate. That is like antischok therapy,colour of the Grass is desperate for iron (sequestine-but this one is spicy price),find cheaper solution. Never mix different products together if it is not recomended to do so. I wish you started like a month ago,but if you get nice two rains you still have good chance to make it work.
Just make spraying at least next two Within a 5 days and then 7-8 days and than 10-11 days before you reach two weeks.
