    Twisted really features Dylan's voice beautifully. Also, VHS Christmas Carol. I adore Dylan's voice and often go back to those shows.

    I love that you started out just reacting to the show from a vocal coach perspective, but as each video passes, that Starkid is definitely worming their way into your heart. We all went through that "huh this is pretty fun" to "my heart hurts and I love them" pipeline. Come to the dark side, we have Starkid :)

      @@singwithAshley YES please watch Twisted!! The song Happy Ending especially, it's very impressive musically, but the combined voices of Jafar (Dylan), Aladdin (Jeff) and Jasmine (Rachael Soglin) will knock you down. I would LOVE to hear your professional opinion on Rachael's voice, she definitely has one of the more unique voices in Starkid.
      That said, VHS Christmas Carols is super good, but I'd recommend the spotify album over the live show on youtube if you want to hear it all clearly.

      @@TiaMat99 fwiw the one on TH-cam/Spotify is VHS Christmas Carol (no 's'), which is the Scrooge story only. VHS Christmas Carols (with the 's') is the version that includes a first act with the two stories Gift of the Magi and Little Match Girl, which hasn't had its TH-cam/album release yet (only the digital ticket which is no longer available for purchase). I'm hoping it'll get released end of this year, though...VHSCCs is SO GOOD and I need everyone to be able to watch it.

    Oh you are going to LOVE Twisted. Really showcases Dylan's talent, both in acting and singing. And Jeff Blim plays Aladdin, so you are going to die of happiness lmao
    Also, I definitely recommend Firebringer. While the story tends to be hit or miss, it's got some of the best music Starkid has to offer, and really showcases the women of Starkid. You might recognize one of the songs from a meme that went around a few years ago (I have little sense of time, so I could be way off about when this happened) "I don't really wanna do the work today"

    Also, I felt this needed to be a separate comment, so that it can breathe on its own. I LOVE the emotional resolution in this song. He goes from trying to cram Wiggly into the Jane-sized hole in his and Tim's hearts, to realising that Tim doesn't want Wiggly, he wants a father who's there. It forces him to directly confront the 'ghost' of his wife (in reality, his own fear at failing as a parent in a world where he doesn't have help), and he realises that this isn't what she would want of him either. That it's okay to feel instead of repress, and to let Tim (who is, in a sense, an extension of Jane) in to feel with you. It resolves in the last line, 'and I won't fail again' (a contrast to 'I will fail' and 'I would fail' earlier in the song) and Tom understands that he and Tim don't need the Jane-proxy, they just need each other. This is Tom's first steps of real emotional growth, and I love it so much.
    Probably already obvious psych nerd rant over. Love this series!

    @Ashley Kennedy
    I said this to another reactor who apologized for becoming super emotional while reacting to a song: Don't be afraid to show emotional vulnerability during a reaction, especially a reaction to music. Emotional Vulnerability is not a weakness. It's a strength. It shows that you're human. For me, half (or more) of the enjoyment I derive from watching reactions to music is to see how music affects different people and to share that moment with the reactor. Sure the music theory and singing technique breakdowns are fascinating, but let's be honest, we're all here to see you lose it at the appropriate moments and see you fangirl at other appropriate moments. It is only when you allow yourself to be emotionally vulnerable, especially on a platform like this, that you will realize that you are not alone. It never ceases to amaze me just how many people are, in fact, emotionally vulnerable and allow themselves to be as such on TH-cam when they would never allow themselves to be that in real life outside of the privacy of their "sanctuary." So allow yourself to be emotionally vulnerable during your reactions. It can only serve to enhance your already fantastic reactions. Besides, if this music didn't affect you in an emotional manner, I would start to think there was something wrong with you.
    To that end, thank you for giving "If I Fail You" it's rightful due. Quite a few fans didn't particularly care for this song. Personally, it's my favorite song of the whole musical. If I'm being honest with you, the majority of my top Starkid Songs are ones sung by Dylan. He's, hands down, the best Male Singer in all of Starkid. Not only is he unmatched in his technique, as you rightfully pointed out, but his emotional resonance is on a whole 'nother level. Dylan has a unique ability to resonate emotionally with a song and its lyrics and then perfectly convey those emotions through his performance of the song. If someone in Starkid is making you cry, 8 times out of 10 it's Dylan. The other two times it will be the man who has even greater emotional resonance than Dylan, but purely on an acting level, and that's Joey Richter. What Dylan can do with a song, Joey can do with every other aspect of the performance. And that's saying a lot considering both Dylan and Joey are top tier actors and singers. Although, they may have competition now with the introduction of Will Branner in "Nerdy Prudes Must Die" because holy crap is that guy GOOD.
    What Starkid makes isn't merely good musical theater. Starkid makes art. This is art. And I look forward to sharing your exploration of their art form. And always remember that when you start feeling emotionally vulnerable and you begin to question the validity of that, we're all right there being emotionally vulnerable with you. You are not alone.

    *Ashley hasn't even finished her first Starkid show*: Can you imagine a world where we don't have Starkid?!
    I feel you, girl! I found them just a couple of years ago because I live under a rock (Iran) so I'm always behind! So I watched a few of their works back then, but less than three months ago I was in a bad place so I sat down, watched every video on their channel, and then moved to watch every video on the Tin Can Brothers channel (I'm a Ravenclaw, I'm thorough haha) and now I'm OBSESSED! So yeah, it would be a sad world without Starkid.
    Btw, You're sleeping on my boy, Joey! I mean, I literally love (almost) all of them but Joey is just special, and his improvement is just *chef's kiss* I would LOVE to see your reaction to his cover of Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde. It's just a short video of him singing that song. Mayyyybe you could squeeze it in somewhere in your schedule??? (If you do, just keep that in mind that it's from a show called "Shitty Broadway" and their whole point is to cover famous Broadway songs with a twist and kinda make them funny. So that's why it's like...that. Haha.)

    Just a personal theory here, but of course he is talking about failing Tim and not wanting to fail him again, but I also think he is talking to Lex at the end. He may have felt like he failed her when he left after Jane, his wife, died. She said that his class was the only thing making her not feel like (excuse my French) a screw-up. So, when he gave up and left, she gave up too. Maybe that is why her life started going down the road it did. Thus, when he says, "I failed you once, but I won't fail again," maybe he is telling Lex he won't fail her and ruin her life. It may be a stretch, but that is what I think. He doesn't want to fail Tim, but he doesn't want to fail Lex either (or Hannah in a way, considering he was indirectly responsible for her capture earlier).

    I love what you said about how special Starkid is. I've been a fan since the early days in 2009 and what strikes me is how accidental their popularity was, and how close we were to not getting this company. They posted the recordings of AVPM for the cast, to avoid making DVD versions of their college musical, and because those videos were public, they went viral and have been able to nurture that initial popularity into sustaining the company for 15 years and hopefully many more to come
    Love your videos, always excited to see more

    The drum part in the tag is a throwback to America's Great Again from TGWDLM, and of course the piano part is a loop of 'there are monsters and there are men' from the reprise. Jeff and Matt Dahan (the 'pit' leader and pianist) sprinkle in references to other parts of the Hatchetfield shows throughout.
