This boat was commissioned by my father's company, Trawler Cat Marine AF built the boat for us. I was there when this boat was built, we launched the 60 and 45 foot versions both at the same time.
It has fuel cells running across the main deck and gravity feed into the engines . They are baffled to stop slop and originally was designed as a world cruising boat with a range of 3.000NM. The engines for each boat are specific as the boat are custom built I can not remember what we put in this boat. I however remember the bow down problem we had on launch day and the boat yard scrambling to get lead to be placed in the stern of the boat, so we could take all the dignitaries and people that had been invited to the launch. We then added Bulbous bows to help with this problem and added them to each boat built after that. The interior of this boat was fully customised by the owners wife, who used her interior designer. The original owner had a ships captain, hence the twin single berths, and he mainly used the boat to go fishing in the Bahamas. He would fly in, spend a few days having fun and fly back in his private jet. Some people have the life.

I'm always surprised to see how much room there is in these pleasure vessels. I spent 12 years on a 140' crab boat in Alaska, and every cubic inch of her was utilitarian; Parts for everything mechanical & electric. Hydraulic parts & hoses, welding equipment, etc. So to see how comfortable & well-equipped this beauty is, at ½ the length, is impressive

  • @ellomirza

I love how utilitarian the boat is and how humble the home it’s docked by is. Every other yacht video is all polished gold and pop up big screen TVs. If I had yacht money I’d struggle to find one that wasn’t gaudy and vulgar.

and for the stuff he glossed over... It's fiberglass, twin Cummins 370hp engines. AF Therio in NS specalizes in custom boats, often commercial boats and even though they do yachts, they are no-frills yachts, like some other manufacturers. He says it's over-built, but I would say it was built for the conditions a expedition yacht is likely to encounter.

As others have mentioned fuel capacity and range are very important when talking about any power boat.
Other than that this was a great tour and I'm sure I'll be dreaming about this vessel whether I'm asleep or awake.
Talk about a home on the water that you could take pretty much anywhere it's range would support...

I really like the idea of the way you're presenting your video, so I will spend time writing to you. I have a few items. Expedition ship? It's more of a power cat, parked in a residential area. What example locations and long-distance runs has she made? It doesn't present itself as a 'Go anywhere ship'. More like a super super fun yacht for a surf and fishing trip. Which is great! Does seem very used and not cared for in the mechanical areas? Or maybe it needs a good cleaning. either way for near a million dollars, or as you put it, 'something you spend twenty years saving up for', I would like to see the attention to upkeep. Frills are not necessary for a great long distant boat security is. Expedition Ship - 3000 NMiles Range? Heavy Large Seas??? What's the weight? It's not a displacement boat so it won't go through waves, it has to go over waves. Can it outrun a storm? How many hours on the engine and gen-sets, can it handle ice, simply a few more tech questions would be good.

Don't misunderstand me, your videos are good and this boat is pretty good but you have to make sure you understand what are you talking about. An expedition yacht can be broadly described as a vessel which has been purpose built, or converted, to enable long-distance cruising to remote areas of the world. To "qualify" for that description, I think the range of the vessel should at least exceed 1,500 miles at a reasonable speed between 8 and 10 knots. So, the first thing you had to cover in your video was that data, including capacity of fuel and water tanks, water making capabilities, refrigeration storage and emergency equipment. Then, if the owner claims the boat is is a sturdy "expedition yacht" the anchor windlass, anchor and chain should be much more sturdier. Same goes foe the access doors to the pilot house. Which brings me to another subject, that is not a flybridge, it is a pilothouse. Flybridge is something that boat does not have over the pilothouse but maybe it should have. At least I found most of the information in the seller's website but even there, the boat is described as a trawler. Although the boat needs a lot of tender loving care, the price seems to be OK. The advantage of Cat hulls is that they can normally reach 18 kts speed burning about 35 gph, which is pretty good for a boat that size. A mono hull trawler of about 60-ft will burn 50-60 gph at same speed although they normally do not go past 9 kts and burn 8-gph combined, plus generator. After a quick research I found that the boat has a tank capacity of 300 gallons of water and 1,200 gallons of diesel for two engines and a Generator. I would say that to cross oceans it would need more water storage and maybe another 500 gallons of fuel tankage. And maybe another generator.

Wow, in the details this is definitely a Canadian boat built by a buider who does commercial work. Nicer than the Novi-built commercial fishing boats I've worked on. Heavy, heavy built, hand-laid by the look, older, certainly. Shallow draft, finishes are nice but off the shelf for ease of maintenance. The joinery is well done.
The bridge layout is familiar to anyone who has run a ferry or a commercial boat. Big beefy tall console, built for ease of repair and maintenance. I had to laugh at the commenter who wanted to see an integrated steering system in the chair like a z-drive tug's $40,000 throne.
You can stick an arm in the cabinet to get at wiring where a pleasure boat won't let a screwdriver pass. The electronics are definitely original to the boat, robust but elderly and could use updating, but if it ain't broke what's the hurry? I didn't see an SSB radio or a Fireboy system- perhaps I missed it. I'm a big fan of mechanical controls and would have liked a view of the dash.
What a boat, though. Really, it just needs a bit of on/off and a scrub, with some redecorating to be ready for a large family.

Stuff I like less: High windage, Hi CG. I suspect this would be difficult to handle in heavy weather and would probably move around a lot at anchor so you need a lot of swinging room.

An alternative solution to shipboard life and one that I might be persuaded by! I do have one concern though and it may not be an obvious one. My concern is with the high windage of the craft which is simply a function of the design. The problem with high windage is that it could adversely affect security of anchoring. I would definitely be looking for at least two extra heavy duty anchors with chains to match. Possibly even a stern anchor.

Very cool video, very complex setup and could be a maintenance nightmare. I like a basic boat, easy to sail, shoal draft, and easy maintenance and for those reason's we purchased a 2020 Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran. It's the perfect boat for our lifestyle down here in the Florida Keys. We live in a condo in Key Largo, Florida that has a full scale marina and each condo has there own boat slip. The slips are wide enough that I don't have to fold the pontoons in and each slip come with full hookups. For only being 29 feet long it has a very spacious cabin layout, big enough for 2 people to live aboard for a weekend cruise around the Florida Keys or a long sail to the Bahamas which we are planning to do next year...

I think this would make an excellent platform for a motor-sailer but, instead of mast and sails, using an automated, self flying kite. Kites have many advantages. With an attachment point low down there’s little heeling moment. For a given area they provide more lift because a), they’re operating in higher wind speeds at altitude and b), they can increase the apparent wind speed by their flight across the wind. Also, I suspect that after prototyping costs, they would be cheaper. Far fewer $10,000 winches for one thing.
If she has a 3,000 mile range under power, based on my own experience with a motor sailer, I’d be surprised if you couldn’t double that.

Well, nice video tour, just as usual. And the vessel is quite nice, too. Would give a cool liveaboard. I'd certainly add some artificial teak to the cockpit, and to the bridge deck, as well to the space an the bow, plus an array of solar panels to the top. Pricing seems to be reasonable... but... you can't believe how much I hate dirty lockers below hatches etc. or engine compartments that aren't tidy but messy. Traces of rust are a no go. Should I present a boat for sale, regardless of size and/or price, I'd have her cleaned up well. First impression counts!

That was my thoughts too.TY.While the main areas were well renewed, the engine areas made me cringe and wonder about the maintenance overall.I'd love this as a live-aboard home with some coastal cruises, and of course, down to the Caribbean to avoid weather.Solar and new control upgrades would be 1st after the engines, but at that price??

2:09)Someone will trip over the exposed anker chain. A future lawsuit.
5:44)I saw a smaller boat with lift up stairs to access the engine room. Like "The Munsters'" main stairs.
8:25)Instead of empty space in front of the bridge, why not have the bridge there and give the pilot a better view?
10:48)People sitting on the starboard bench will have little legroom. Maybe better to place storage units.
12:05)No guardrail around the stairs. Lawsuit.

Geez. His boat is bigger than his house. It reminds me of when I travel through some trailer parks in Myrtle Beach and a mobile home has an RV that's as big as the home.

Thinking about this boat as an expedition boat and actually living aboard it also makes me think that it needs a full-beam master cabin. Unfortunately, you'd lose both staterooms because there's nowhere else to put it.

Im a very utilitarian kinda guy and durability and logistics make sense to me for this stuff. I feel like it would be a comfy boat to live on for a while. That said... This thing is the Liberty ship of yachts, isnt it? haha
