This is why I stopped doing BJJ, they'll teach you all these submissions and ground game but won't make you take someone to the ground first to actually do it. My BJJ coach would do this, I told him straight to his face, "how would I stop someone from stomping me out in this position" and he had no answer

I don't believe this one bit. It's obvious how you stop someone from stomping on you. It's the reason this guy didn't stomp on him, because if you catch their foot and knock them down It's considered a takedown. So he would have given him an extra point in the regard plus he would be more vulnerable if he did so because catching his foot could easily lead to getting him in a heel hook. The only time I'd say BJJ isn't worth knowing is if you have to fight multiple people but even then I'm confident I'd handle 2 or 3 drunks easily knowing bjj and a little judo and boxing. Against one guy bjj is absolutely the master class of all fighting techniques.
