Olifants Rest Camp Review Kruger National Park

- Overlanding road trip and review of Olifants Rest camp in the central part of the Kruger National Park, one of the few camps that's located on high ground. Overlooking the Olifants River, the camp doesn't have traditional camping, but over 50 chalets of varying quality make it quite a large rest camp.
There's a decent, although not wonderful restaurant, well stocked shop, laundry and very pleasant swimming pool. An excellent way place to cool off after a long day's game viewing in the Kruger Park on your overlanding travels.
Speaking of game viewing, it's not the absolute best part of the park for encountering the big 5. But having said that, the name "olifant", is Afrikaans for elephant, and there are plenty of them around.

In your opinion which number riverview chalet would you recommend to get the best view
Hi Melissa, I'd say numbers up to 19 or 20 have a decent river view, as the numbers increase after that they move around the corner a little. I hope that helps.

Not "NO" tourists, but much fewer than usual.

That would defeat the object of being in the wilderness. And, it's probably not a good idea to irritate and elephant, they are very able to overturn a car if they want to.

4:44 - we did not see any of the big 5. 5:05 Elephants were very much in abundance. I think maybe you mean "we did not see any big cats" ??

you definitely need a good Jeep or SUV there
Under normal circumstances a car is fine, but when the rain comes, it can be handy to have a SUV.
how do you keep your car clean with all that sand and little water?
It was pretty dirty by the end 😂
the river doesn't have a lot of water tho.
But more than under usual circumstances.
