There's SCP-6011 which is about 2D society and how they function. It's a bit of an interesting read and can probably give some views on how 2D people would react
This really does cut straight to the point of why this is a dumb comparison. Even if you only existed on an X and y plane, the very nature of perspective would dictate you must see in 3 dimensions. If there is a 2d entity, it wouldn’t see anything in any perspective.
It's not really 'through' but around. They see things in 3 dimensions just as we see them in 2 so they'd be able to peak around the sides of every particle
@@t900HAWK Then who knows if creatures could exist in the 4th dimension. Everything is hypothetical here. Don't say like "well we dont even know if vision work in 4d"
@@Bouldergoat I mean you are right factually, but this whole video is assuming vision "works" in 4D, right? We are here imagining "How Would Our World Look In 4D?". That's in the title. Why would you have to hypothsize "doesn't work"? If it is the case, this video would not even exist in the first place. People like you have a questionable habit of supporting these nonsensical comments and ideas, "lighting up" unecessary arguments on the internet. Please have a mind and stop writing these kind of comments
Well technically we have never seen a real living 2nd dimensional being so maybe they can't see us as well which in turn means that any living being on a different dimensional plain cannot see eachother but are always close to eachother
That's really an inaccurate analogy. Instead of being a 4 dimensional creature that can see through the whole object in the 3d world, you're basically just in the developer view mode. For an example like in the player's view, that they're unable to see the thing behind the wall, while in the developer view's mode, to make it visible, you just need to make the wall transparent to see what's actually behind it cause it's your ability to manipulate all the things in your own game. Turns out that you're actually still a 3D creature with some additional features, while the players are the 3D creatures as well. Meanwhile, the video showed us how the 4D creatures see the 3D world, according to your analogy it's basically a 3D creature with some features seeing its own world by itself.
How can you comprehend something your senses are incapable of picking up and brain isn't capable of processing. There are colors we can't see, but other animals can, but because we can't even see these colors it's virtually impossible for us to visualize them in our brain because our brains aren't built, or trained to.
There is no "through the wall" in 2D, you're seeing every dimension of the wall by looking at it. There can be nothing in front or behind the wall and it naturally has no thickness.
True. It's kinda confusing since the pov of his 2d drawing makes it so easy to assume a 3d world from that 2d perspective. But basically the visible part of the wall we see on the paper is the whole of the wall. It that 2d wall had atoms, we'd basically be able to see all the atoms just from that perspective in our dimension. So basically a 4d person can see all the atoms of a 3d person simultaneously, as if were spread out flat on a piece of paper. Which is hella trippy.
I disagree, u should be able to see through and object, or more like everything and object is in terms of three dimension. If a 3d being like us sees everything that fits in two dimension, then a 4d being should be able to see everything that exists in 3d including if theres anything in front or behind it (really every molecule if you're eyesight was good enough ig). So I think you should be able to look "through" objects. Like, if you looks at a car in 4d, you wiuld be able to not just see the outside but the inner mechanisms and all that.
Most people look at a tesseract and have zero idea what it is. It’s attempting to express to you by rotating in on itself that you could see inside of the cube from the outside. In this scenario you could see all sides of the wall and through it
Those tesseract animations are usually the next-dimensional equivalent of what a 2D being inside the page/screen would see of a cube's animation. If they could distinguish it well enough (this is tricky, because from within the plane of the picture they can't see past solid lines), they'd see various quadrilaterals passing through one another instead of an arrangement of squares rotating around one another-the screen doesn't have depth, and they don't have the ability to conceive of the "left and right" dimension where the square sides of a cube pass by one another without one going _over_ the other. So no, the hypercube "rotating in on itself" is not depicting that you could see the inside of the cube-it's just the cubic sides of the hypercube passing by each other in a direction the screen can't depict and your mind can't imagine.
I mean, they technically won't be able to "See through" the wall because we are viewing the world of 2 dimension in other perspective, not technically seeing through the wall. It will be more accurate to say that they will be able to view what is over the wall from other perspective
You didn't understand 🤦. It is normal to see them in an other perspective... We see them in the 3d that they don't have access... They don't have this perspective....
well its more like theyre perspective of another variable. We see in a small localized instances of time, well in theory the fourth dimensional creature could see a regular 3 dimensional object throughout its entire lifetime. atleast thats my favorite and most logical reasoning for our theory of the fourth dimension.
@@Bingo264 What I meant twas that if 4d creatures existed, they will be able to view our 3d world from another perspective which is impossible for us to even imagine.
Simple answer: each dimension is made of the dimension before it, excluding the 1st dimension. The 3rd dimension is made out of 2d figures, and the 4th is made out of 3rd dimensional figures. Hope this helps!
I mean we are actually 4D creatures. Think about it. 4D is space-time, meaning the “space position” (from my understanding of space time, correct me if I’m wrong I’m just a kid) and time both exist. Now what is space position? Space position is like having a stretchy mesh made of strings. If you glue a marble to a specific part of the mesh, say the 10th row and 14th column, then stretch the mesh making the strings further apart, the marble will stay in the same space-time position, the 14th column and 10th row, yet its 3D position will change. This is a great way to visualize the expansion of the universe. Lets get back to the question though. We are 4D creatures because we experience 4D anomalies like space and time. If a 5th dimension existed in our universe and we didn’t experience, we wouldn’t be a thing. We can only visualize what a 5D or 3D or 2D universe would look like but at the end of the day, it’s always 4D. Everything we experience REQUIRES length width height space and time. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have any properties at all. Also if there are any scientists out there and I’m saying some ooga booga stuff please call me out. I’m just some 8th grader interested in science.
@@Asdqazasdqaz nah because they don’t see through everything they just see around it in the way that we can see around the wall between Josh and Molly.
3D being: Minding their own business 4D being: /gamemode spectator *Is now able to see what the 3D being is doing, even through walls, and can even see under their clothing AND inside their body*
Our sense of self and identity exist within our brains, so technically when we think “I’m me”, it’s actually our brains saying that we are who we are Simply put, we, or more specifically the idea of ourselves are the brain Our brains are us and we are our brains
You could literally expand that 2D example into 3D and it still functions the same. It tells us only about direction, not dimension. If I stand at the end of a wall I can see both sides of it. The analogy should be that in 3D that wall might merely be a pillar, and Josh and Molly would see eachother just fine since the pillar was to their side.
I was thinking the exact same thing. If I hadn't heard of a similar explanation of this 2d, 3d, and 4d comparison I would have thought of this as bullsh*t.
Isn't that the point of the video? Using an example that we can comprehend and expanding it past our theoretical limit of comprehension in a manner we could understand?
@@amyschildgamerlive4519 No, he is saying that the explanation of the 2D vs 3D was poorly executed since they would both function the same. I.e. a 2D person would not be able to see beyond the wall and neither would a 3D person. With a wall as the object it's about which direction you are looking from rather than dimension.
You don’t see both sides of it. Even if you’re on the side, you won’t be able to see the side on the other end. You also don’t see the insides of the wall.
@@jharmley6882 no the picture made it look that way though. A 1d person sees the world in zero dimensions. A 2d person sees the world in 1dimension. A 3d person sees the world in 2dimensions. So a 4d person sees the world in 3dimensions. Like they would comprehend all 3d space around them entirely.
I finally thought of a name You just explained exactly why this train of logic makes zero sense. The dynamic between the first and second dimension do not share the same characteristics as the dynamic between the second and third, as demonstrated in the video. Although the video makes an accurate claim about the interaction between dimensions 2&3, this cannot be applied in a simple mathematical sequence. A 4th dimensional creature would likely be capable of understanding space in a very unique way compared to how we experience it.
I don think so, cause from which ever angle you look at it you don't see 3d but 2d, seeing objects in their entire 3d form is 4d but it's not comprehensable by humans 😕
This is one of the best explanations I have found. But, just for clarification, you wouldn't see through stuff, you would just see everything. The wall, and the person behind it, and everything else in that direction, all at the same time
Because it doesn’t exist. 2D and 1D worlds don’t exist either. You people are delusional. It’s all an optical illusion made by 3D objects so that you perceive it as 2D but in reality it’s just lights on a freaking screen. I’m not sure how people buy into this bs.
Had a thought. Do we "see" the second dimension, but live and perceive it as the 3rd? Just as a 4th dimensional being would be able to live in the 4th dimension but only see the third? Like- what I'm seeing right now could be projected onto a map, exactly how a picture works. When we close one eye, we lose most of our depth perception, because our brain uses the differences in each eye to PERCEIVE depth. Auxillary information in stuff like shadows and obstruction of vision via another obstacle are supplementary factors when determining depth. When an object is in front of us, it's obviously easy to determine it's location. But things like the moon, or planes in the sky are different. Distant objects naturally get harder to place spacially because there is less and less difference in what both of our eyes see. So do we really see in 3D? Just a rambling from a bypasser. Let me know if I'm wrong.
We see in a 2D because we're living in a 3D world if our view was 3D then we'd be able to see around the walls and all that stuff just like the stickmen living in a 2d world and having 1d vision

there is also a concept where a 0d object like a point would not have an ability to move. the 1d object would only move in one direction to and fro... like only left and right OR only up and down. the 2d objects get a ability to move in all directions and turn or rotate... on a plane (paper). the 3d object would get an ability to "jump over" obstacles... which any other 2d or 1d objects cant. now... imagine a 4d object's ability.... if i were to lock u into a solid steel cube, with no entry doors, the kind 4d creature would still be able to rescue you out of it, without breaking the cube. just like we would pick molly and place beside the dude, without breaking the middle wall. 😲😲😲

A 4th dimensional being could also reach into your stomach and remove the contents without going through your skin, the same as you could take the mouth off a stick figure's face without breaking the circle of its head. It could also flip you across the 4th dimension the same as you could lift and flip a non symmetrical 2 dimensional shape on a paper. Man, the sickest thing I just realized from the clip is that in 2D space the black line that is drawn in the middle here is automatically a wall. In 3D space looking from this perspective, we wouldn't be able to tell if the black line is a wall that runs into the depth of the screen or just a thin pillar because they would look the same from our perspective. But in 2D space you have no depth, so whatever line is drawn anywhere here is automatically as thick as the entire depth of the scene (i.e. zero). Still have no idea how that finding would translate into 4D looking at a 3D scene, tho. 😂
Imagine time as 4th Dimension. It's like looking at the wall at different timestamps. One where it's getting build, another where it's in ruins. And everything in between. Like a time traveler.
Ok but we’re talking about a hypothetical fourth spatial dimension here, not a temporal one. As for the original commenter, if I’m interpreting your question correctly, the wall vs pillar analogy is the same in 2D as a small square vs a long rectangle. In 4D, this would likely translate as when looking at a 4D object, being able to see the entirety of a 3 dimensional cube, but facing the same direction the cube is oriented in (this direction must be perpendicular to the other three dimensions that make up the orientation of the cube) and being unable to tell the length along this fourth dimension.

Make sence

We can't see _through_ the wall, though. We see 100% of the wall and everything around it.
There is no "through the wall" in 2D, you're seeing every dimension of the wall by looking at it. There can be nothing in front or behind the wall and it naturally has no thickness.
Exactly!
Like, if you looks at a car in 4d, you wiuld be able to not just see the outside but the inner mechanisms and all that.
we?
Even if the wall were not there , Josh and Molly would still probably be staring at us right in our souls .
Well no, because 2D josh and molly can't see 3D world. The same as us 3D creatures, which can't see 4D world.

@@x01___anon___10x we know what it's like but we can't see it. But then again the 4D is just a theory so we don't know if it exist.
Most people look at a tesseract and have zero idea what it is. It’s attempting to express to you by rotating in on itself that you could see inside of the cube from the outside. In this scenario you could see all sides of the wall and through it
So basically the phone I’m holding right now I can see the parts inside?

We see 3d movies.
The end
How did I nut thing of dat
You're watching it in a 2d TV so that makes it still 2d even though we call it 3d
Nah m8 there are 7D movies

I finally thought of a name You just explained exactly why this train of logic makes zero sense. The dynamic between the first and second dimension do not share the same characteristics as the dynamic between the second and third, as demonstrated in the video.

@@StudleyDuderight i mean if u want to understand 4d, there are numerous mathematical models that helps. the simplified concept is that...
a bunch of points makes a line... 1D
a bunch of lines makes a square... 2D
a bunch of squares would make a box or cube... 3D
so, a bunch of cubes would make a shape called as tesseract... 4D !!!
😲😲😲
there is also a concept where a 0d object like a point would not have an ability to move.
the 1d object would only move in one direction to and fro... like only left and right OR only up and down.
the 2d objects get a ability to move in all directions and turn or rotate... on a plane (paper).
the 3d object would get an ability to "jump over" obstacles... which any other 2d or 1d objects cant.
now... imagine a 4d object's ability....
if i were to lock u into a solid steel cube, with no entry doors, the kind 4d creature would still be able to rescue you out of it, without breaking the cube. just like we would pick molly and place beside the dude, without breaking the middle wall. 😲😲😲

Imagine a 4D creature lookin' at us 💀
Imagine that creature bound to the word of God and not allowed to torment us for it is not time yet . .

You're living in 4th dimension... this video is a clever lie. The 4th dimension is called spacetime. The movement of objects measured by a unit of time. The first 3 dimensions are without movement. Point, length, and depth. They neither move nor exist of their own accord. Draw a line on paper, that line does not move unless you move it. Look at a box, that box doesn't move unless something moves it. However, these objects are within our 4th dimension, so we can move and change them according to ours.
@@Juncboks well I think this is a lie since the wall is not outside of the video and we are in front of them so I guess you’re right
@@cheepydog Thank you, though it's not my idea. Spacetime being the 4th dimension has been an established, scientifically observed, fact for many years.
@@Juncboks as long as the science you speak of isn't part of the quantum substrata, the words you speak of make a lot more sense than anything I've heard so far related to the 4th dimension but I'm quite tired of hypothesis as any idiot can come up with, even me, so I don't find it as fascinating as some to watch these, talking about it face to face is a different matter of course.
@@Ultima952 It is not part of that structural theory. I also completely agree with you; face to face discussion is much more substantial.
The better example is:
A 1D guy does not see anything except a dot, So a 1D guy's eye is 0D
A 2D guy does not see anything except lines, So a 2D guy's eye is 1D
A 3D guy sees one glance/2D at a time, So a 3D guy's eye is 2D

Ok, you're wrong here. We couldn't exactly "see through a wall" even if we were 4d creatures. As long as the wall, a point observer and the observed object all remain in the same 3d plane, you can't see it. You can look past the wall only if you move away from that particular 3d plane.
The 4d point observer that can look past a wall in 3d world would also have to be invisible to both the wall and the observed object, as the observer can't remain in the same 3d plane.
I agree. You put into words what I was thinking.
@@stewartmullings1552 cheers. These things are fun to think about. Still breaks my brain when I try to imagine how hyperspace will look like.
@@superneenjaa718 Absolutely! In high-school I used to spent all hours of the night watching videos on theoretical astrophysics (amongst other things). It is really fun to think about and makes me enjoy good science fiction even more.
Well, the 3D being could simply stick a finger into the 2D world, while also watching over it from its 3D existence.
@@Dexuz that's why repeatedly said point observer, to reduce ambiguity about the shape of the object. More importantly, a 4D object can't even exist in a 3D plane unless that 3D plane is a subspace of another hyperspace.
So, saying "if we were 4d creatures" automatically becomes pointless if our universe isn't even a subspace of some higher dimensional space.
Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt, you still cannot see through the wall. You are actually side stepping through the 4th dimension to get the wall out of your line of sight.
