    Great technique! I use a different method. First, I get a piece of foam. Cut it to length, ripe little pieces of it to create realistic landscape, and finally painted it green with acrylic paint.

    I didn't think this was going to look as good as it did. Good job.

    That actually doesn't look too bad thanks for the tips for your own ground cover appreciate it, and the big bottles of ground cover its expensive here in the states too so thanks again 😉

    Hey Harrison, very Ingenious. 🤔 Looks great and has nice texture. If you used black paint it would look like the cooled lava flows on Mt. Etna. You may even use it to create coal loads for hoppers. The saw works great for texture, but try a blender to get consistent particles. If you have a Michaels store, pick up some fine green foam blocks used by floral shops, or maybe a local floral shop may give you the scraps of green foam they cut apart when making arrangements. They make nice groundcover once run through the blender. Thanks for sharing.

    Now, whenever I see "Budget" model train videos it always feels like a coin flip whether its something great or crayon colored construction paper buildings to stick it to those evil Model train companies. That's actually a really good result for what I imagine is only $0.25 of material.

    Very good idea you have...I`ve been spending way to much on the stuff what I have I`ve got most of it from Woodland Scenics..But since I`m rebuilding some of my layout an expanding it This will same me a lot of money. Even here in the USA it costs way to much an here where I live in southwest Wyoming there are no hobby shops that deal in trains So one has to drive about 200 miles to the nearest one a lot easer to order it online then the shipping costs a lot also Scotty

    That’s awesome. Hopefully the sponge won’t absorb the moisture in the basement and expand. :) Although, it would mimic actual growth. Ch ch chia!

    Try this . Get the same foam, get some cloth dye and a cheap blender. I think alchohol too. It helps it dry. Blend it all together and you get easier and finer ground cover

    I stripped a refrigerator of its foam lining. The rigid urethane stuff really shreds nicely with an angle grinder, though you need eye, nose, and mouth protection. An apartment-sized fridge will yield at least half a "yard" trash bag (33 gallons?) of fine foam.
    For small amounts though, this is the nuts.

    Back in the day I used a blender. Not the best results and dulled the blender LOL this idea of using a saw creates an excellent result. Keep up the good work

    I use this trick except I made foliage instead of ground cover. I simply used a blade a small one and cut it vertically down to make huge chunks like foliage

    Hey, i have a question for you: Where do you get your locomotives from? Bachmann? Tyco? I'm looking to get into model railroading (I'm not in the US but Amazon always ships to europe) and i wanted to know where i should buy my locomotives from.

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're wondering what make, I've found Athearn, Model power, Rapido and Walthers to make all make pretty reliable locomotives. I usually just get them at hobby shops but I've heard good things about trainworld.com although I haven't personally tried them.
