  • Today attention is given to cleaning up and separating some of the logs for the sawmill and firewood pile. The Kubota and grapple are the key components in the video to getting the work done. In the old days, we'd have to do this entirely by hand at the cost of physical strain and potential danger. Today we are spoiled with the affordability of a variety of compact or utility tractors and attachments.
    Bear in mind, even though a person has the advantage of those pieces of equipment it does not mean he will be immediately efficient in their use. I prove that point in the footage for today. My use of the new grapple so far has not been continual and that inexperience is shown frequently as I have to jockey the Kubota MX into position. Midway through I stop moving new materials to re-stack some older logs and firewood that is interfering with the movements of the larger machine fitted with the 1500 Lb counterweight. All is good though because I know sooner or later I WILL gain efficiency in their use. Until then, bear with me. #kubota, #wood, #grapple #fire #firewood

    With these grapples and other attachments is like that you improve with big steps, once you see "oh i'm so bad with it" and few days later you yourself notice "wow i'm pretty good with it" 😄until making some mistake and like so can be many steps 😄 More steps you do better you get, so it's not always good to learn something too fast may miss some important tricks. I hope now with new tractor you have more time to work with your old ones. Great video!

      Good Morning Gus. I tell ya, the area where I store the wood was getting so I couldn't drop any more logs easily. The last three loads I dumped at another location further back in the woods. This makes it a lot easier. Thanks for riding along with me today my friend.

    Love your grapple!
    I bought a small grapple for my Kubota last year and I absolutely love it!
    I don’t know how I ever got along without it!

      It took me a long time to pick one out because of the weights, materials and style of grapple. My son also gave input because he uses them on skid loaders from time to time at work. So the Carolina Attachments 66" filled the bill for me.

      Yessir Zane you're right. Unfortunately most of my experience with tractors is old school, even up to the old back hoes and skidsteer. I don't have the luxury of working exclusively with it daily either. Oh well, all good things will come along in time.

      Good morning mon ami. I gotta tell ya, I purchased special 'Snake-Proof' sheets from a Snake Oil salesman last year. So I don't have to worry about that potential. LOL. Unless of course, the snakes have built up a natural resistance to the new technology in tin.... Have a wonderful fun filled day way up North !!

      Well, it was getting too tight to cuss a cat in that area. It's better now, but there's still a few more loads that's gotta get brought in. A nice box elder was offered just yesterday. A very pretty soft wood...kinda looks like fire flame in the grain.

  • @51sicboy
    @51sicboy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a rule, if at any point things get too tight and I feel like taking trees down I stop and inventory my stuff. It never fails to free up space without taking down trees. I just end up at the dump, scrapyard or selling stuff.

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I AM thinning the herd very soon. I've got stuff I know I'll never get the chance to work on so why not, right ? But back in here, it's just too many trees too close together.

  • @tractortalkwithgary1271
    @tractortalkwithgary1271 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I didn’t get the 3rd function when I bought my Kubota
    I did get the remotes on the back and I just run hoses all the way to the back and run the open/ close feature with the hydraulic control lever
    Not as handy as having the buttons on the loader control lever, but several hundred dollars cheaper

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I remember you telling me that back when I was talking about adding the 3rd function to this one. The cool thing about having the third function on the stick is you can close/open and curl/dump simultaneously because its a 'diverting' valve that robs oil flow from that circuit. Both functions are slower when used together, but normal when used alone.

    What model of grapple is this from Carolina Attachments? I looked on their website and didn’t see one that looked like yours.

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually called them and asked if they had one that fit my parameters....66" dual independent clam. They said yes, they do and this is the result. I do not remember the exact model number so I'll try to remember to snap a pic of it and add it to this comment. I am pleased to say the least. The dual setup will minimize the potential of twisting the main grapple frame. On odd shaped loads, they both travel until one meets resistance. The other one will then continue until it meets matching resistance then they both clamp down evenly. Make sense..?

    • @cayutacreekoutdoors485
      @cayutacreekoutdoors485 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ How come you decided on going with the 66” instead of the 72”?

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ larger you go the less weight the loader can pick up. Plus I figured the visibility around the bigger one would be cut down. Not much difference on either point, I know. But I just thought the 72” was pushing it. Now I’m not sure it’d matter either way. Still glad I have this one. The main thing I believe is the dual/cylinders on the split clam.

      @cayutacreekoutdoors485 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tractorman4461 Thank you for your response. I’ve decided on going with a 66” grapple. Do you remember what the cost was for your grapple?
