Class modules are incredibly powerful tools and you really can achieve so much with them. This video touches on the very basics of what's possible with a class module, but people can often mistake an example like this and not really see the potential. When I was starting with Class modules, I would see videos like this and I would think "Why wouldn't I just make the 4 variables in the subroutine instead of all that work to create a class to do the same thing?". These days I definitely understand them better. I have many class modules that I've exported from projects and can re-use them over and over in many projects, simplifying my work immensely. This video is a good intro but I think some more specific applications of class modules would be very helpful.
Thanks so much Matthew, great points. I also got your email on this. For this VBA for Beginners, basic lesson, I did keep it very simple. I have used Class Modules in my latest add-ins (like the date picker) however, yes, I too, often ask myself "Why would I use this instead of a sub?". I have asked myself that many times. For both my own applications and those that I teach. I like code that flows from point A to Z, if it jumps around a lot, its hard to follow (for myself and students) I will dig deeper into class modules to see if i can make them more useful other than in the add-ins. Thanks again for sharing.
It's basically what I thought after watching this video xD But I get the point to start small and gradually build up step-by-step 👍 Would love to to see some more advanced and practical usage examples.
@@rayearth9760I understand. And there's absolutely merit in just getting people comfortable with exploring the absolute basics, but honestly their potential is really exciting and can lead to some great reusable modules. Send me a message if you want some practical examples :)
Thanks so much Matthew. Please make sure to check out my newest training, A multi-user add-in, which also uses class modules, and allows users to share & Sync any workbook (even non-macro workbooks) th-cam.com/video/G9VqF7yN0Oo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much! You are my savior. I commented on The Ultimate Expense & Reimbursement Software videos, and now you posted that. Thank you so much. I love the way you explain everything, in a way that I can't find on any other TH-cam channel. You are the best of the best.
This introduction to class modules in VBA is incredibly helpful! Understanding the encapsulation of data and functions into a single unit simplifies complex functionalities. The cheat sheet is a fantastic resource for beginners to start experimenting with class modules. Thanks for breaking down the concepts in such an easy-to-understand manner. Looking forward to implementing these techniques in my own projects!
Looking forward to this very much. I have never really used Class Modules in VBA before. As you always explain things very well, hoping to pick up some tips to make programming better and easier.
Nice video as always. Waiting for more training on class modules. It would be nice to add an example to convert one of your previously created applications in terms of a class module, so understanding its application will be better, just sharing my thoughts that's all.
Hi and thanks so much. I did want to keep it very basic for this Saturday Basic VBA training however I cover more detail of class modules in my previous Add-in trainings. I hope this helps and thanks so much.
Hi and thanks so much. Hi, you can download the cheat sheet file using the links in the description under the word DOWNLOAD. I hope this helps and thanks.
