I have no problem with trading Diaz, he's a proven commodity and I think Cruz could close and maybe one of the young starters could be moved to the Bullpen. I don't like the idea of trading Steer. I know he regressed last season from his rookie year...but I really believe he isn't close to reaching his ceiling. I think the guy has .300, 30 HR, 100 RBI potential. And if you don't believe that look at his stats early last season...he was arguably the best player in the NL in April and May. I think being in a line up with little protection behind him, being moved around in that lineup and not knowing from one game to the next if you're playing 1at, 3rd or LF had a very negative effect on him ! Besides we have PLENTY of young infield prospects that you could trade instead of Steer. I say stick Steer at ONE position for the entire year, hit him in the 3,4 or 5 spot in the order and get a proven bat to hit behind him...and he'll put up big numbers.
The Reds need more hitting, so lets trade the team's leading RBI man the past two seasons! That should help a lot. I do agree about Strand. He's going to be a hitting beast once he gets it together!
Steer had a 116 WRC+ in high leverage situations. You need guys like that to win in October. Unless Steer is involved in a package to bring in a needle moving bat into this lineup then it's stupid to move him. We need quality bats.
If they ship Steer and keep Friedl, Benson, and/or Fairchild; they should lose every single one of their fans. They badly need RBI's, clutch, professional hitters, and right handed power. So they shop Steer? Of course they do. They're the Reds.
Trading Steer feels like a bad move to me. If last year is his floor, he’s not bad. His versatility + his bat seem too good. If we trade him, I think we need to get a haul, but his down year last year doesn’t seem like it’d make that possible
Steer is a good player can play multiple positions and I think he’s sneaky athletic I don’t think he’s a terrible defender. He just doesn’t have a spot where he can shine.
It depends on what you get in return. Trade them. I am not sure how close Mr. Arroyo is to the big club. He is young. He is on a fast track to stardom.
Steers defense was bad at left field too much moving people around nobody can get any rhythm that way. Should put and leave steer at first, but they won’t do it.
Steer would require a much, much bigger return than Yaz. I actually was meaning that maybe you trade Diaz for Yaz + the Giants eat some of the money. I also might be OK with trading Steer for Yaz + a top prospect back in return. I think that Yaz has a good chance to outperform Steer in 2025.
Steer is this coming season’s Reds Heads Kids Club Captain. If Steer gets traded, I’m not sure who the Reds will decide to be the face of Reds Heads next season
You have to shop guys to get a fair evaluation of what they're worth. You KNOW what they're worth to YOUR team but if you want to find out what the rest of the League thinks of them you HAVE to shop them.
It's hard to exaggerate the importance of that one Reds player who exists solely to satisfy the needs of those fans who are unable to accept that teams that don't win it all owe their failures to more than one thing- hell everyone knows that in truth its just the "one guy". For years Joey Votto was The Guy, but even before him there was Eric Davis and Ken Griffey, Jr. and hell, Johnny Bench even filled the role for the final years he was on the team. Obviously, Jonathan India has been the latest one guy and since the team traded him they've been in danger of not providing a goat (small g) for sacrifice in the minds of the most astute among the fan base and I was almost sold on the idea that the position might be vacant until mid season, but hallelujah there is a frontrunner- Spencer Steer. And unless he is traded before the season begins there is a better than even chance that he can add a few points to his batting average and make a few errors in the field so that the hard core fans can rally behind the battle cry that "he's just a 260 hitter with a below average glove" and their world will make sense for another year.
I would be all in on that. I think Ashcraft could be a better "closer" than Diaz and I also don't think he should be a starter so that move makes sense. Steer is a guy that is good but do we want him in the outfield more than Rooker? I know I don't. I think if Steer is ever going to be traded now is the time.
Except the A's would hang up the phone laughing hysterically at that offer. An offer for just Rooker probably starts with Burns and Arroyo, and they'll want more.
Kirby strikes yet again with False Information saying Jake McCarthy literally outperformed Spencer Steer in every single category just about in 2024... Really??? Spencer Steer Outproduced McCarthy in... Base Hits, Doubles, Walks, Runs Scored, Runs Batted In, Home Runs, and Total Bases. Makes the company, it's owner, and himself look foolish.
Just offer Tesocar Hernandez athree year, 70 million contract and the problem is solved. You’re not trading anyone and keep all your prospects. If the Reds can go on a free agent buying spree back during the 2019-2020 offseason, you would think they could pony up enough for a right handed hitter.
@, I agree. But who are you going to trade from the major league roster to bring in that right handed power hitter? Are you going to part a top prospect or two to bring I Robert, Jr.?
@@stevenwright3080 I would rather sign a lower level OF free agent and maybe trade Diaz and/or Steer for another young OF. With the possible 2027 season long lockout, I would not tie up too much money beyond the 2027 season.
India has two years of control and Steer isn't bringing a bigger return than Singer. The Royals were desperate for a leadoff man to get on base for Witt and that's why they overpaid for India.
We could have if we would have kept India. Could have packaged him and actually got someone. We are riding McLain, CES. Marte sink or swim it looks like.
I opine McClain is overrated. Yes, he is an above average fielder, but his % strike out rate is almost as bad as DaLaCruz. Trade them both while they have value because they want to play for high dollar coast teams to satisfy their big egos. Besides, when free agency eligible, they are gone anyway.
@Aaron-fo1sy Neither, I am a Big Reds fan TIRED of seeing them losing year after year. TIRED of watching so-called 5 inning over glorified starters turning games over to average to below average 6, 7th, 8th, and 9th innings relivers. TIRED of seeing Reds batters strike out repeatedly with runners in scoring positions. TIRED of seeing a player absurdly placed on a 10 foot pedestal for striking out 200+ times, leading baseball in fielding errors, making absurd number of mental errors costing the team wins, tired of team broadcasters glorifying all of this for a near last place division finish. Is that "TIRED" Enough?
at the end of the day, cincy making any moves is a shocker in itself and the only thing that happens is “speculation” which then pointless vids like these are made because well, what else is there to talk about with a cheap ass franchise like the reds. 😂😂
Can you imagine if the Reds acquired Mike Yastrzemski in a trade for the 50th anniversary season of the Big Red Machine. The Reds could bring Carl Yastrzemski out to the ball park to celebrate that 1975 World Series 😅
SHOULD THE REDS CONSIDER TRADING SPENCER STEER?
No! Asinine.
no
Hell no
No!
Yes.

you just traded India, now Steer possibly? thats two of our better RH hitters.. explain how this helps the offense , especially against Leftys???
Because they’d trade him for a hitter
Great video as always, Nick and Craig! Always love seeing reds content in the offseason!!!
Steer had a 116 WRC+ in high leverage situations. You need guys like that to win in October. Unless Steer is involved in a package to bring in a needle moving bat into this lineup then it's stupid to move him. We need quality bats.
Yea I would rather package Benson Fraley Fairchild Hinds Dunn all together instead of steer. LOL
Steers defense may be bad because he gets tossed around the diamond at all times. Maybe it gets better if he plays only 2b. Perhaps 🤔
If they ship Steer and keep Friedl, Benson, and/or Fairchild; they should lose every single one of their fans. They badly need RBI's, clutch, professional hitters, and right handed power. So they shop Steer? Of course they do. They're the Reds.

Trade Steer?? That's crazy!

Maybe stop using him in the OF so much and get some real OFs
Great show
come on Nick!!! you want a guy making 8 million a year, but have to trade Steer who is making way less???
Steer would require a much, much bigger return than Yaz. I actually was meaning that maybe you trade Diaz for Yaz + the Giants eat some of the money. I also might be OK with trading Steer for Yaz + a top prospect back in return. I think that Yaz has a good chance to outperform Steer in 2025.
Why doesn’t anyone talk about how squeezed the strike zone was for Alexis Diaz?
Now I remember why I stopped watching this channel

I'd trade Diaz, Steer and a top prospect or 2 to the A's for Rooker & Langolier.
I would be all in on that. I think Ashcraft could be a better "closer" than Diaz and I also don't think he should be a starter so that move makes sense.

We need relievers and a right hand power bat in outfield?
Why trade Spencer Steer. He’s one of their top 3 players!
I miss the Reds…
I would hate to see Steer go
Alexis Diaz can go!

Gabp Home Run Bump never happens.
Steer and Diaz for Varsho
They trade Steer and do anything other than sign Hernandez and I’m going to start watching cricket and more golf

Reds are trading Spencer Steer for Jason larue.
Hell no on steer thay got to be talking out of there minds
Spencer Steer or TJ Freidl.. I trade Freidl..
SHOULD THE REDS CONSIDER TRADING ALEX DIAZ?
yep, Moll can take his spot
Yes
Trade Matt McLain…he’s been injured every year and is still injured now! It’s just a matter of time when he’ll be out again.

Diaz can be traded but who will close games ? Santillan ?
