    I like how each of them act different towards those situations. For me, I never give them money because I blame the government for failing them. I donate clothes and food for those people and when I meet them in person I only offer food.
    Also I am not sure how problematic it would be to give them money especially bigger than $50, they can be addicts to drugs/alcohol or gambling or others might come jealous on the streets and fight for the money.

    Man, I just had a scam situation the other day. Woman pretended to have a baby in a carriage while having her sign out but she was hiding a phone behind the sign talking to someone. One guy had the heart to donate but when he realized she was faking he took back his money and she went back to her nice car. Even if you’re in a bind at least be honest about the situation rather than hamming it up. For real some of the nicest people are more sociable than simply begging and begging.

  • @Kokuki39
    @Kokuki39 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The most common solution to that is use their words against them, especially when they are saying it's for food. You tell them you'll buy the food yourself cuz you're hungry too or something similar and if they say no then you can judge whether or not that was the intended purpose. Otherwise, $10 should be enough to buy street food, there's no way $20+ justifies for a meal especially when there are other that will give some too guaranteed

    See I don’t give money to people on the street because there’s a drug problem in my city. And I know that they’ll spend that cash on drugs. Giving money straight to homeless people usually isn’t a good idea imo. I donate to shelters, food banks, and other support groups instead.
    And honestly I think that’s what everyone should do. Otherwise your just enabling people and they stay on the street instead of getting help.

    I kinda get Magni re: giving other people money tbh. Like, it's one thing to do charity or donate to the unfortunate, but it's not easy to just give hard-earned money to anyone on the street, especially those who look like they can do just fine.
    That aside, as someone who listens to a lot of Aussie media it's nice to quickly understand the slang terms Axel say (ie pokies)

    I understand what they're saying about not trusting a homeless person who doesn't want your food, but I promise that a homeless person is MONUMENTALLY more suspicious of a stranger giving them food than a stranger giving them money to buy food WITH.
    A general rule of thumb for homeless people is to never accept food from people you don't KNOW you can trust. There are mountains of horror stories about homeless people not following that rule & biting into a sandwich full of broken glass or thumbtacks because people dont treat the homeless like humans.
    If you don't SEE them buy the food, don't trust the food. Thank them for it then inspect it for tampering & if you THINK it MIGHT have been tampered with, throw it away

    • @ghanaria7996
      @ghanaria7996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What you said is true, however the inverse i believe happens more often. Homeless people are homeless for a reason ie drugs, gambling, mentally disabled, or incompetent (lazy). Most of the time they are not worth helping. If they don’t want to change their ways (personality or addiction-wise) they are destined to become homeless again even if you give them everything needed to succeed. Rarely do people become homeless through unfortunate circumstances ie serious injuries, loss of job, natural disasters. If they did become homeless through that, they were destined to become homeless because they were not prepared for any bad events. We’re always told to have savings and to have insurance. Maybe one in a million people actually get fk’d over with several bad events in a row, but i’d rather not take the chance of wasting money on a useless member of society.
      There is a reason why the public hates homeless people, and how even the government (at least in california) pretends to help homeless people while secretly dumping them in other states.

    • @Fanimati0n
      @Fanimati0n 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ghanaria7996 wow, you're a fucking asshole who's been brainwashed by the government to blame the downtrodden & impoverished. Your argument is "yeah, they get abused, murdred, assaulted, etc, but they deserved it. They should just not be homeless" despite homelessness being on the rise due to a lack of affordable housing, unemployment rates, generational poverty, & unlivably low wages. YOU seem like the type of person that would dump thumbtacks into a homeless man's sandwich.

    • @o0Avalon0o

    I live in a really small city and there is not a lot of homeless people... (we used to have one who were always there.. but he did get help after a while)
    But once there that one dude who were begging to be able to get into our garbage (I was working at a restaurant)
    and the waitresses just run back inside... And when I did come with a garbage bag, he did ask for it too... (he did was looking hungry)
    I refused and just give him a 20$. He was really looking happy and kind of uncomfortable from getting money,
    telling me how he was going to come back and give it me back etc...
    But I am no fool, scammer or not, he was not going it back.
    Anyways, I hope that did help home at least for that day...

    Axel's story reminded me of when a coworker and I got scammed by a guy at work. He suddenly came while we had an hour left for closing. He said he was having money trouble and needed some cash. I refused couple of times. But me being the stupid naïve idiot, I give him $40. He gave me his number (fake) so he could repay me. A few days later, he comes back. Says the same thing but this time, it was my coworker who him the money. A few days later. We found out that we were scammed. Apparently he also scammed the store manager. He was possibly using it for drugs. I hope he overdosed.
