  • For this boat tour, I hope you will allow me to indulge in my Royal Navy heritage by quickly showing you around HMS Sabre, a Scimitar Class fast patrol boat based in Portsmouth.
    I served for six years in the Royal Navy, but I have never been aboard a Scimitar Class patrol boat, so it was great to be allowed to jump aboard during the 2021 Southampton boat show.
    HMS Sabre was built in 1993 and initially was commissioned into the Royal Marines before being handed over to the Royal Navy in 2002.
    This fast patrol boat might be nearly 30 years old, but she still packs a punch when she needs to!
    Unfortunately, I was not allowed to film the engine room or crew mess in the bow, but I did get a chance to film from where the action happens!
    I want to say a huge thanks to the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Navy for letting me come on board. I also want to thank the CO of HMS Sabre, Lt Timothy Clouter, for making the call.
    What do you think of this fast patrol boat? Let me know in the comments section.

    I love the analogue helm station! 💖
    Also, Fred and his girlfriend didn't have an argument. It's just that she's not dressed for the UK outdoor weather... look at her! She's wearing a grass skirt. So she stays inside.

    Fred is also called Oscar.... Spent some time on board of HMS Coventry and HMS London, as they're now part of the Romanian Navy as F221 Regele Ferdinand and F222 Regina Maria, during various naval exercises. Nice, comfortable frigates. It is a shame the government couldn't manage to refit them with up to date systems.

    Scimitar is pronounced 'simitar' as I'm sure you must have heard it referred to.

    Love these boats. I was teaching their crews Level 3 first aid right up to their decommission. These boats are at their best when out at sea and you are scipping over the waves. They are the best example of simple and rugged designs even tho the foward hatches had a habit of leaking in the rain.

    HMS Sheffield was a Type 42. How did you get this wrong?

    • @YachtBuoy
      @YachtBuoy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Type 42 that was sunk in the Falklands was a T42 but the frigate that I served in in the 90s with the same namesake was a T22 🫡
