  • Like many things that have defined our schedules and activities, Tuesday Evenings at the Modern must reconfigure. Though disappointed by the abrupt halt to the live program, we are excited to introduce a gathering and discussion alternative online. As a long-running program, Tuesday Evenings has an amazing archive to draw from, and that’s exactly what we intend to do.
Join us as usual on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 pm on TH-cam. Drinks and snacks are on you, but we will provide thought-provoking content and lively discussion, as usual. Terri Thornton, Curator of Education, will introduce each presentation, with a friendly and stimulating TH-cam chat to follow.
This coming Tuesday, April 7, we are happy to revisit the astute and indulgent March 2012 presentation by writer and artist, Andrea Fraser in which she shares her essay entitled, “Why does Fred Sandback’s Work Makes Me Cry.” The essay, and Fraser’s presentation of it, is a clear and moving document of the complex nature of art as well as personal realizations in relation to the discoveries that unfold as she works her way through a profound response to what she comes to term as “an art of impossibilities.”

My endless gratitude for uploading this video, Fraser's Sandback essay would have never "come to life" without this amazing reading/performance on her behalf. It almost made me cry. Thank you!
