I went to the College of New Rochelle Brooklyn campus many years ago and my Professor was teaching us, how this was happening and how gentrification started buying property in Brooklyn. Especially the Crown Heights Bed Stuy BrownStones that are worth MILLIONS for pennies on the dollars because the home owners weren't educated in real estate markets. It's disgusting what New York has ALLOWED to happen. NOW you CANNOT find a place because they all trying to send you to the Bronx in the out skirts, while gentrification continues in Brooklyn. A place where some, wouldn't even come. A place, where a cab wouldn't even cross the bridge. ALL you see NOW is people enjoying their BrownStone, new settlers, and people of color pushing caucasian babies as if it STILL slavery days. My Professor even told me a story how a home owner committed SUICIDE from the pressures of selling and being taunted on the phone. NO ONE questioned when the Supreme Justice committed SUICIDE in Harlem and found in the river and had no heirs and everything was left to her husband. Including ALL THE PROPERTIES that she owned in Harlem. Do you REALLY think that a beautiful Judge, with soo much would've just gave it all up? Be careful out there, there's a lot of EVIL people out there.
Such a terrible and important story to tell. Kudos to the team at BRIC TV for telling it so incredibly well. Hopefully, NYS legislators will manage to strengthen General Business Law 349 to expand the scope of Deceptive business practices to include "unfair and abusive" to help criminalize these scams, as well as extend the statute of limitations in these cases so that as many of the victims can have a fair chance at reclaiming their homes as possible.
They need to strengthen the deed laws to protect, monitor and educate homeowners and there children or close friends and the community as a whole- more awareness and prevention programs by HUD should be presented in a more open and live way- not just provide information on their website or paper materials, but interactively, directly in those vulnerable communities as well as social media, live commercials, and live forums on tv- this would prevent a lot of these scams from taking place- also homeowner housing organizations could create a red alert registry where certain investors, attorneys and title companies can be looked up for the cases of homeowners that were swindled and deceived out there homes by them
I live next door to once known as the Save Theater 1223 or 1225 Fulton St. that was Black owned and their deed was taken away and now a giant building is under construction. So Sad............
Totally agree with you. The worst part is that they use their own kind to steal from them and it's still going on. Bring it to the churches and school so the people are educated on what's going on. Soo sad.
only if you knew. Every black person in Brooklyn like myself know who these players are, and they aren’t black. In the past they would just show up at your door. Now they use agents(that Jamaican that was referenced ). Some groups it seems are just beyond reproach.
Wow, this is so sad, unfortunate and it is still going on today and no one is doing anything to stop this. They say they could make a difference by saying "it's unfair'" in the clause but they wrote bills but still didn't add that clause because they don't care and are only doing the bare minimum to act as if they are doing something great for the poor black people. All over Brooklyn you see all these new high rise buildings being built that are suppose to be affordable but it's not for the regular people in the community because you can't afford to pay those high rent but the other races of people are coming in because they can't afford to live in Manhattan and Long Island tax is too much for them and too much pollution where they are. I was listening to the radio and in Long Island, people who were having difficulties with their house had predatory realtor calling to buy their homes and they said they wanted the politician to make it illegal to call or leave fliers at their homes. and it was done for them because they didn't want them to lose their home unfairly. No one look out for the blacks and that's a problem and that's why they keep on tricking and stealing from black people because no one is there to tell them what to do or to protect them from predators, so they use people that look and sound like them to cheat them out of their homes. If the politicians aren't doing anything to help, don't vote for them.
"Trust us, because we're Jamaican, like you!" Man, this really makes my blood boil! Same rhetoric that partially caused the housing crisis.....! Subprime 2007 and deed fraud 2024 are siblings.......!
@@Melztweets some ppl lost their homes for not paying $10 increase on their property tax, and most of them were senior citizens that were living off of their retirement.
Did you even watch the video? You don't sign anything, someone pretends to be you and takes your house with a fake ID and random fingerprint and the notary public will be too stupid to even verify with the REAL owner. They then close the deal with the lender and title escrow and you will be left footing the bill... except you can't because the property taxes don't go to you anymore but the new "buyer"

It's there for a reason. These scams aren't being run by Jamaicans. The actual people profiting hire Jamaicans or other people of color to make the victims of color feel more comfortable.
Outstanding reporting. I hope these people get justice, and the new legislation is successful.

Well done Justin Bryant and team! Lets sound the alarm to expose the inhumane treatment of our most vulnerable people.
This is messed up , he deserves his home back he grew up in that home … greed is the case of these Realestate folks

It's pivotal that when your mortgage is paid for to NOT take a second mortgage, PAY YOUR TAXES and sign NOTHING.
Who are these people stealing the properties? MMMMM...We know the particular group is doing this...Open your eyes and look around 😮😮😮

They didn't give him the full amount that he was promised but came back with a story instead.
