      Thank you! I'm hoping to get all the Rewind dolls. I love them. There's a lot of the Barbie signature line that I really like, plus wanna get stuff from the 80's and 90's. Eventually I think it would be cool to get 60's and 70's era stuff too. My poor wallet 😭

  • @SDjilliaRE
    @SDjilliaRE ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm two months late, but finally here! 😭😭😭So happy you finally got your "first" Barbie! It's a really amazing experience. When I was reunited with Max Steel again a year or so ago, I started crying, lol. And surprisingly, the packaging hasn't changed all that much in 30 years. But a tip about the plastic bit on the back that her head is stapled to--hold her head firmly in place, then get a good grip on the plastic piece and pull it away using a good amount of force. Once you find the sweet spot, you can often pull the tabs clean out without any damage. You can also try pulling them out individually with forceps and sometimes that works as well. Other times, it just leaves the bracket at the end of the tab inside of the head. If neither method works, just trim the tabs down as short as you can get them and then use the dull end of the scissors to push them into the head. They don't rattle around or anything so you'll be good. Unfortunately, sometimes with vintage dolls, the plastic they used gets brittle due to age and the tabs won't come out without cutting them. A bit about her body type too--it's a modified Barbie Extra body. She has the same modernized proportions and articulation as the Extra dolls, just with rubber bend and snap legs that can fit vintage Barbie shoes instead. Basically the best of old and new. Definitely keep the elastics though. Those pumps never stayed on very well, even back in the day, lmao. The mention of Josie Gellar's prom makes me want a Romi and Michelle if they ever get around to a 90s edition. Or a Jawbreaker one now that you mention it! 😭As far as authenticity goes, it's sort of interesting. If it were the 80s or 90s, that bouquet would've been a paper accessory so that's a definite glow-up. However, her golden accessories would've had gold foil over white/clear/silver plastic so it would've looked way nicer. I'm thinking of painting them with a metallic gold paint pen to cheat the effect. Also if you haven't gotten around to her hair yet and want some tips on that, just let me know!

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Omg you are a wealth of knowledge! I am so clueless with Barbie stuff still but I’m gradually learning. I’m still trying to get used to the articulation, but because I just stick stuff on shelves, I don’t care about posing them. I swear they could strap Barbie down they same way they do AG dolls though. Once I get settled in my new house I’m going to dive back into Barbie, particularly vintage Barbie. I love some of the new ones, but they don’t hit the same as vintage. I so badly want an army of them all in pink dresses. There are never any good deals online so I feel like waiting isn’t as hard, at least. Thanks for all the tips! Glad to see the Jason mask back in the comment section!

      @SDjilliaRE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@idreamofjonny No problem! I'm glad to be here! hahaha I will say once you start looking for vintage dolls, eBay tends to have the best deals. Sometimes etsy is decent too, but the shipping ruins it 9 times out of 10. And to save the most money, look for dolls that are attached to backing cards but not in box. You still get to dismantle them, but with less packaging to deal with and those ones are usually display dolls so there's less hassle all around. Just be weary of stuff like carpet beetle husks. Extremely common to find. 😭😭😭

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tips! I really wanna do most of my Barbie’s out-of-box so the backing card is a good tip. I want “new” ones but don’t care about the packaging for most things. I only want a few in-box I think. I’ll prob start looking more intently later this year!

    Yay!!!! CONGRATS. I found malibu gold sun Ken at the thrift store a few months ago, that's the oldest one i have. But I've gotten Malibu Barbie and Skipper for my mom. Some of my fave are from the early 2000's. I played with the 90's ones so much, their face paint is coming off and some of their necks are damaged from me turning the heads a lot. LOL

    It was so delightful to watch you open your first Barbie as a collector! And yes! The 1988 Super Star barbie (I feel) is a must have. I got her originally for my fourth birthday, and then purchased a new in box one for my 35th birthday in 2019. I still have my original, but I lost most of her clothes and all of her accessories. I think she was about $30 or $40 NIB, but that was in 2019 before doll collecting became in vogue. There’s also a Japanese line of Barbies (also released in 1988) that have a very similar aesthetic, but completely different face mold, and I was fortunate enough to snag one of those last year. OMGosh I’m just so excited for you!!!!!❤❤❤

    I am excited to see you do more Barbie reviews! I do collect Barbie myself, though ATM I have a small collection. I mostly stick to 80s/90s Barbies. I love to find them thrifting and I really enjoy fixing them up. My earliest doll is the 1971 Sunset Malibu Barbie, which I actually found for under $2 at the Goodwill. Barbie is a great deal of fun. Enjoy collecting her!

    I started sewing 1 year ago, and for my 1958 Singer sewing machine’s birthday party, I bought vintage Barbie doll 1963, 1964 and 1984 McCall’s patterns on eBay. I am sewing a 60s square dance dress now - my first handmade doll garment! LMK if you’d like me to sew any vintage bespoke outfits for your 60s Barbies! That could be a fun collab I think!

  • @Inky1313Starlight
    @Inky1313Starlight ปีที่แล้ว +1

    She's super cute! I'm a few years younger and all the Barbies I remember had either a much softer click noise on their knees (like you could feel it and see it move but the sound was very muffled) or they were starting to do more actually jointed dolls- I think I would have absolutely hated the loud clicking as a kid! I'm kinda thinking about collecting older Barbie lunchboxes and the doll cases? I see the doll cases a lot at doll shows. I don't really have room to get into the dolls and also my cats are wretched gremlins, but I think at some point things like lunchboxes and cases and maybe some other non-doll merchandise like Barbie cameras would be something I could do.

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  ปีที่แล้ว

      These knees are exactly like I remember them 😖 Good thing it's only a retro thing now. Barbie has such an amazing selection of merch, so I really love the idea of collecting lunchboxes and cases. That would be so cool! (unless you're a cat lol)
